Are you attributing the crossing of R1 and L1 to shooter error?

Hello George,

Sorry but what loads were you shooting? What bullets were you using? What was the distance at which you were shooting?

The sights seemed to pretty much sort out your problem.

What about your elephant hunt coming up. Who, what, why, where, when and how? Anyone going with you?

Glad you corrected it. So it was "shooter error" only in marking them. Are you concerned that R2 is left of L2? Or was that shooter error?

As far as "acting like a woman". I'm married to one I would be proud to act like anytime.

It may be my reloads or the fouling or the molly.I will be out there again soon and try again. No,there was no shooter error in this-easy shooting.

Thanks,

I have seen a lot of "critics" not do nearly as well.

Obviously you must do what is best but if you can try North Fork bullets you may be very pleased with the results.

Go Well

George,

Try a standing rest instead of bench. Move into 25 yards and shoot 6 rounds (three per barrel) hold the same point of aim.

Butch's guns are usually very well regulated. I suspect if you do that you will have two nice separate groups of three for the right and the left barrel.

Either way, as it was pointed out, that's not a bad group for 50 yards. Shooting from a bench with a double though, can effect the result.

Going back to Shoot-your-cow's first announcement about ordering a DR, I think I was the very first to predict there would be performance issues with this rifle, not because of the builder, quite the contrary, but because of the shooter and his unwillingness to properly learn about doubles and their differences from single barreled weapons.

Sure as shit, Shoot-your-cow screwed the pooch right off the bat by jacking with the sights. Who's surprised? Not I.

I called dibbs on this rifle long before Butch even began building it, based on it not living up to the holycow-cow's unrealistic expectations. So holycow-cow, when you tire of jacking with the sights, just box it up and send it to Texas, but please do so before jacking with it further. If it doesn't shoot for you this time, it ain't the rifle boy! And I'm 100% positive it wasn't the rifle the first time either. Just box it up and send it this way ... SOON! Before it becomes a basket case ... the rifle that is; too late for the shooter in that regard!

Ha,

Darth Biebs! Dang funny!

By my measure George the distance between the right and left barrel puts you at 2+" of taint when you measure between the holes. There is no need for that moly treatment at the speeds you are running.

I am confident that you will get it all sorted out in time.

Hey, is the bluing fading from the monoblock on your rifle already? Maybe you are stroking it too much every night.

Give that bluing a rest and have a Molson!

I decided to clean the bores and check on the fouling.I tried wipe-out for the first time and it is full of shit.I could not remove more copper than any other solvent.I then took matters into my own hands and decided to remove the copper. Both barrels were clogged with copper and it took quite a bit of JB to remove it.I believe it was the accuracy robbing copper that caused the shots to cross.I think that the bulge in my rds caused the fouling.Next time I am going to shoot my reloads as the bullets fit in the neck nicely without the bulge. It could not have been the molly responsible for the settling issues I had a while ago but the oil that was in the barrels.

And those are nock setting pliers that you use to squeeze the little brass nock onto a bow string. About the same level of professional tool for a DR as the vise grips for the tap.

There is no way in the world that a rifle-even a bolt rifle will not shoot very large groups at 50yds if there is heavy copper in the bore.It can spread groups up to 6 or 7 inches and the possibilty of them not crossing is impossible.Have you ever shot a double at 50yds?

Shoot away is a genius and has made a new product. The "Shootaway Shooting Helmet". This should sell well. It might even get mandated like riding a motorcycle helmet in the nanny states. It could have compartments for replacement sights and WD40 if you can't shoot straight.

He's using bore brushes to wrap patches around, and finding "heavy copper fouling" after like 8 rounds per barrel. What are you really expecting?

npd345,
When reloading you dont always get the best results or the most concentric loads for a number of reasons. What you are after is the handload that will fit your rifle best.Having reloaded for a few big bore rifles with my set-up,I would get the best reloads with new, unfired cases. It seems that with the RCBS dies I am using for my 500NE that the best handloads are achieved with fired cases for the cases I have available.
The new cases would cause the necks to bulge where the bullet is seated,IMO driving the bullet into the lands. This issue is solved using my once fired cases-the bullet seats perfectly in them and is aligned closer towards the center of the bore-reducing fouling and being accurate.
