Saeed...Zambia's Prime blocks have been closed now for 2 seasons due to the Governments inability to manage/allocate hunting areas. This I believe is indirectly responsible for all of this.

I still don't believe what I am hearing about the block allocation in 24' until I see it in print.

This seems to be a recurring issue going back many years in Zambia.

To date, no operator in Zambia has a quota

Not a good situation with DSC starting tomorrow.

"All signed in lusaka today, we back and our areas are signed and we are hunting!!!"

So now is everyone comfortable going to DSC and putting down tens of thousands while bypassing other opportunities based on what you read on a forum somewhere? Confused

Big question!

But, if my understanding is correct, as long as concessions are approved, and quota is issued, there should be no problems.

Ami right?

Problems arose because concession agreements ended.

And no new ones were forthcoming, but outfitters sold hunts hoping for the best?

That’s the problem with Zambia, details are always sketchy! I have not heard any GMA’s and/or specific awards listed as yet. I remember back in the 90’s Zambia outfitters were at the conventions with no areas and/or quotas.

That was a $7500 bad lesson for the outfitter. He got hosed by Rashid Rancine. I did not lose any money. Rasheed took his money, not mine.

Careful who you hunt with.

BM -

I get it that is how it works.

However....I ran an industrial supply business for 30 years before selling it. With that business, I was able to hunt just about every species in Africa, many, numerous times.

I've fished all over the planet, been a very VERY fortunate man.

But not one single time did I ever tell a supplier "I will pay you when I get paid for XYZ." I always came last.

But as I said, I get it. It just doesn't fly with me. (or probably ANY other businessman here)

I agree 100%! In the twenty years I was in the electrical contracting business I ALWAYS paid before I got paid. Matter of fact I paid my suppliers early for the 2% discount and it also got me better pricing.

Employees were paid before I got paid and suppliers got paid before o got paid.

Has there been any African country that hasn't screwed over their hunters? Last minute changes in fees, quota, concessions or canceling hunting seasons altogether?

My understanding is those involved in the lawsuit received and signed their contracts (at least 4 of 5 known, the last one should have signed last week) 7 year leases. Now the big issue is what will happen next as the Supreme Court invalidated the previous contentious contract(s). Will those concessions now be reopened for tender as the should, now being illegal???? Again, the 5 who sued and won are signed and good to go.

This is how it works - I find the right opportunity and the hunter books with my recommended Operator and I have been doing that for 20 years. Just this booking went tits up and besides I never received a dime.

There is a bunch of noted free lancers out there who work on exactly the same structure.

I have booked with a number of free lance PH's that did not control their own areas. I have never been asked to pay the operator or concession holder directly. I have always paid the outfitter booking the hunt.
