It amazes me that someone starts a thread and is so ashamed of it that he gets his friends to come on to ask people to stop posting on it so that it can go away.

Graybird,
Go back and look once more who post #1 was. If it had not of been made...we would not be having this conversation. Wink

+1. Of course, we are just a bunch of tattle tales....isn't there some saying from Homeland Security about speaking up if you see or hear something that might involve security issues? Isn't a graphic death threat to multiple people a potential safety/security issue? I guess if you live in TX, you just blow it off. After all, these folks are never serious....

Larry,

You are a normal person, and reacted like anyone of us would have.

Others have been making excuses for ISS whichever way they like.

It is actually the norm in our sad society today - anyone who does something totally ridiculous, it is never his fault.

It is always something else that caused it.

Or someone in his past that caused it.

Personal responsibility no longer counts.

Saeed sir,
I am all about personal responsibility. Rich did what he did...you did what you had to. I said that in an earlier post. What I object to...is someone starting a thread to ridicule a good man that can't respond...even though he shouldn't have done what he did.

Lane,

You can carry on as long as you like.

I will only ask you to stop when you start sending PMs to other members telling them in great details how you are going to disassemble them while you are listing to their cries for mercy.

You can bet your bottom dollar that I won't do that. But Rich is not the only person I know that has said that to a few people. They all had one thing in common too...like Mac said...they were vets. I could tell a story about a very prominent man in my life that was in the Lost Batallion...but I will just let it be.

That Kroil is pretty high dollar about $16 per can. Case lot is $168.05 x90% full X 4 cases =$604.98. Lead at .49 per pound (price has came down was higher--over 2k per ton)several pounds (lifetime supply) would add up. This all begs the question what else? Seems to me Ted's comments were spot on.

Do I really need to remind you of a Texan who was killed by a vet with psych problems? 1 of the emails I received was very detailed about Rich's psych issues and his ignoring the recommendations for treatment. Oh, that's right, I should have realized he was just kidding and not "tattled".

Carpetman1,
What do you think I think about OJ? I will follow that with: Did I ever state above that Rich was innocent?

I said it take 2 to tango.

I am disappointed that a person who with 90% likelihood already knew that Rich was banned...came on African Hunting and started a thread to make sure everyone knew and for why...to denigrate him.

Couple that with the fact that this man (Rich) has been around AR a long time, is an older gentleman, a patriot, known by many on AR to be good people, and a man who has gone out of his way to be kind to me just because.

Then I ask you...what would you do if Rich was your friend? Just hide and watch?

I don't know what Ted knew or didn't know nor his intent. His explanation was he came to the realization he hadn't seen him on here and asked.
I didn't know--had I asked would I be guilty of stirring the pot?
Had it been someone that was not your friend that did the same, would you feel differently? Perhaps feel it was Toyota---you asked for it you got it. No, you never said ISS was innocent but you minimized it and rationalized it and blamed it on others and justified it that ISS had been exposed to stress and the victims were tattle tales. Friend or not, that's going overboard in view of what he did, regardless of his real frame of mind, which only he would know.

I am curious Saeed; why you did not take care of this, the problem of the threats, when it happened rather than years after it happened/was reported.

I understand he was suspended for other issues but did you ever suspend him for just the threats themselves?

I know he has been suspended for some of his posts but has he ever been suspended for just the threats and then allowed to come back?

It is not going to happen.

We don't have the time to start micro manage members, picking what they can do on the forums and what they cannot do.

You play by the rules, and you have every privilege everyone has.

You don't, and then you can find another play ground to play in.

Very simple really, and for the life of me, I cannot see how some fail to see this very simple fact.

I think this is pretty simple . . .

If you were one of those "threatened", did you view the threat as credible or that it might be credible? If so, why did you not report it to law enforcement officials? If not, why do you feign all the outrage and distress over the threat? The fact that most did not even bother reporting the matter to law enforcement suggests to me that most did not regard the threats as serious, it just ruffled their sensibilities. Now we are led to believe that they have been in fear since the threats were made.

. . . now back to your regularly scheduled flogging.

No...not if it came from "one of us" whom many on here know well and has a long history as a public figure and AR personality.

I would have PMed him and asked him if we couldn't dial back the rhetoric a little bit and be a little more amicable to each other...or...just agree to avoid each other on AR.

But no...I would not have worried in the least about him actually driving to my home to seek me out.

Folks,

I figured my first post on the is thread was sufficient but against my better judgement I'm going to make a couple of additional comments. First when Rich threatened me it was quite few years ago and I didn't even know his first name. I don't even know what set him off exactly but I do know I disagreed with him on some comments he made following his first safari. The threat and I didn't know this was his MO at the time was quite graphic. It said something about plunging a knife, watching the light go out in the eyes as the shit ran down the leg. I freely admit I was concerned. I contacted Saeed to see if he could somehow figure out who this guy really was but he said he could not. I wanted to share Rich's info with the sheriff before I contacted him. The Sheriff when I did contact him said unless Rich actually showed up there was not much he could do and of course Rich never followed through. I guess following those channels makes me a pussy but I would handle it the same if it happened again. Challenging Rich to a High Noon shoot out seemed a little silly in today's world.

My second point is I read Ted's initial post like everyone else and I must be naive as I interpreted it as nothing more than Ted wondering what happened to Rich. I think the notion that Ted had some additional agenda designed to start some huge bashing of Rich sounds ridiculous to me.

LEDVM--Certainly not trying to flame with you. Just sharing a different point of view. If two kids get into an argument on the playground and one tells on the other, that would be tattle tell. If same argument one of the kids pulls a knife or a gun, this would be reporting a crime--big difference. Death threats were made and thus a crime--it goes beyond being a tattler.
This bring up a question this thread has created for me. As a DVM, if someone brought you a horse that obviously was mistreated, abused and otherwise deplorable conditions, do you have an obligation to report this? That is not tattling and not reporting it should be a crime.
In this situation where death threats were made, I can't see not reporting it.

That is an "apples vs. oranges" straw-man type argument and I believe you even know there is little relevance there...the context is totally different.

To my knowledge...there is no law to report. I have never been presented with that type of scenario and doubt I ever will. I am an equine orthopedic surgeon. A cheap horse for me to look at is a $25K animal. The average worth of my patients is $100K...with multi-million dollar patients not unheard of. I am unlikely to ever be presented with such a scenario. If I am, I will decide the proper course of action at that time.

As a side-note to your scenario above...I wear a pistol slug imbedded against the body of my 3rd cervical vertebrae and a permanent 3rd dimple in my left cheek...acquired not by accident. Thus...I have 'first hand experience' to draw from.

LEDVM I think there is relevance there--death threats made--a CRIME.
Did you report being shot?
I'm surprised you would not be obligated by law to report a situation as I described.
