The pictures and commentary are thoroughly enjoyable, thank you.

A side question for Saeed on 'camo-leaf':

A couple of years ago you made some stalks wearing a 'leaf-camo' jacket/suit.

Was the suit effective against tsetse flies? (They can be hard to sneak up on )

Was it (too) hot?

Any recommendations, advice?

Obviously, having a group with someone doing filming at the same time, plus PH, plus tracker would diminish the 'camoflage' incentive, though there are times when 1 or 2 move ahead of others. Any comment on the use of camoflage?

Thank you again.

We have just returned to camp after being out since shortly after 6.

We went to check our hippo for crocs, sadly none was there.

In fact, there were no crocs at all.

Went and put up some baits, then Roy and Alan climbed a mountain to glass the countryside.

Don and me decided we did not feel like klipspringers, so remained on ground level.

Ro and Alan came down very fast, with big smiles on their faces.

They spotted a herd of eland about 2-3 kilometers away.

We went to intercept them.

After we found them, we played a sort of cat and mouse with them, as at any given time some cow was keeping an eye on us.

Eventually we managed to get a clear shot at the bull, and I shot him.

We spent most of the afternoon cutting him up.

Got back to camp and found Walter is getting ready for one of his famous BBQs.

I have plenty of photos, and I am hoping to post some this evening.

I can help Saeed with the camo questions:

In 2010, Alan Vincent was providing a sort of ghillie suit for PH and hunter.
Nice jacket and pants, a mesh suit with attached leaf cut-out pattern camo.
Yes it did protect against tsetse flies.

It did breathe pretty well, but would add to heat burden in hot weather,
by stifling the breeze reaching skin. Not bad most of the time.

I like it. Made me feel like a predator,
although a sleepy predator, I was still jet-lagged pretty bad on the first day out in the suit.
My PH sat on his haunches in the swamp wearing one while glassing a herd of buffalo about 200 yards away.
After being shushed and told not to move for an hour, I took a nap.
No tsetse fly bit any part of me that was covered by the suit, and it was not hot, just cozy:

Quick update from me. I got my pig! Not the big one we've been chasing for two days but a nice pig just the same, then wouldn't you know it, as we were chasing some kongoni up hill and down dale a bloody big pig popped up and stood side on to me at 20 meters. He was bigger than mine but not as big as the old fella we've been chasing. That's hunting hey Big Grin. Having a ball here, Walter has been a top room mate, have seen some great sights with good company.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Once again, beautiful pictures.
Sure didn't dream there would be so much hand work in loading those animals. Sure figured they'd have a lift on those trucks with a winch.
Just too easy for someone to get hurt with that much weight by hand.

With a rack as there is on that rig, it wouldn't be much of a trick to run a beam the length of it and out behind a bit with a rolling winch set up to lift, then slide 'em on into the bed with.

How big are those spiders? Can't tell with closeup's. They do look to be quite large.

Thank you, glad you're all having such a great time together. AND keeping Walter busy cooking, sounds like you need to do that to keep him out of mischief.
George

Had another exciting day.

Roy shot a warthog early in the morning, followed later in the day by two buffalo.

It took us the rest of the to get the buffalo cut up and loaded.

Got back to camp by 9 in the evening.

Walter starts hunting tomorrow, please wish Dillon luck! clap

I am uploading some photos right now, and will link them as soon as they are done.

Walter did not have any luck today.

He and Dillon chased some buffalo, but apparently none was Walterable.

Roy shot a kongoni, and I shot a warthog.

We think this is the same warthog that Tony mentioned earlier.

We saw it as we were driving in the truck.

We jumped out of the truck and chased him.

He stopped to look back, but, as sometimes happens, he was hidden behind some brush.

He ran off a few yards and stopped again looking at us.

I put a 300 grain Walterhog in his forehead.

Don leaves us tomorrow morning.

He thoroughly enjoyed himself, and we certainly enjoyed his visit.

Yesterday we had eland stew.

Tonight we had eland steak.

I collect the photos taken by everyone, and select the few I post here.

I am trying to convey the whole safari experience, not just the trophies and the hunters.

Sort of a picture book.

There is so much to see and enjoy while on safari besides the actual hunting.

More than enough to make a person want to make the trip whether any hunting was done or not.
Too bad, but, this time the last 15-20 were x'd out. Anyone else have that problem this time?
First time that's happened on this whole thread.

Walter shot an impala and a kongoni today.

We returned back to camp about 3 in the afternoon, and decided to remain there.

We see lion tracks every day.

The lone male was lying in a river bed about 150 yards from us.

The male and female were close to one of our baits.

We did not have a good look at that male, as he took off at a distance.

Glad everyone enjoys our photos.
