I wonder what the price point is for actions such as Mr. Satterlee's or Prechtl or Johannsen, or any of the other high end actions.

By that I mean, at what price point does it become not worth it to purchase one of these high end actions.

Would people still purchase them if they were $4000? $5000?

Hartmann&Weiss actions were selling for around US$6k in 2005,[with buyers]....like I said previously...there are folks out there that will pay for what they want.
$6K is proportionate, considering an H&W boltrifle was upward of $25K at the time.
Jerry Fisher and Ralf Martini have H&W reciever based rifle[s] on the table.
Ralf has this H&W .416 available:- cad$28300 as is, just add cost of bluing&checkering... popcorn

although i have no dog in the fight, may I suggest Timan that you comport yourself like D'Arcy Echols on this site? He doesn't get into pissing matches, he just builds damn fine rifles.

his business acumen seems strong while your's does not. he builds fine rifles. you appear to have a fine action. stick to what you know.

like I said, i have no stake in the outcome of this thread, but most everyone here lives in the business world on some level. aside from your product, this is the consumer's only view of you. if you don't like what RIP or anyone else says that's OK, there's probably room for everyone in the boat. However, your last post could just as easily have been written by an 8th grade schoolgirl rather than a businessman.

Stu,

Take this for what it's worth. I really wanted to use one of your actions for a 375 project. I called and emailed and never could get a firm commitment on a delivery date.

Then I started hearing about some of your delivery issues.

I decided to go with GMA because I wanted the 375 built this decade (it is at Duane's now, being started shortly).

I have another project in mind that I'd still like to build on one of your actions (I could care less if it takes a few years to build) but this recent behavior and complete unwillingness to answer honestly about delivery times, as well as the seeming inability to deliver certain projects in anything resembling a reasonable time frame while simultaneously delivering on other projects gives me great reason for concern.

At this point, I'd still like to own one of your actions but would only consider it if we agreed to a firm delivery date with penalties for missing that date. I would put whatever money necessary in an escrow account, you would deposit a small amount of money in an escrow account as well. If the action is delivered on or before the agreed to date, you would be paid from escrow and your funds would be returned. If the action was not delivered by the agreed to date, my funds would be returned and the money you deposited would be paid to me as interest (or penalty, however you want to view it).

As an aside, I spoke about this project with more than a half dozen rifle makers, some Guild members, some not. The responses ranged from "Good luck with that" to "Satterlee? Well then we have PLENTY of time to get the other parts together". Not a single builder had anything positive to say about your ability to deliver, though all said the product was superb.

It has to do with delivery time! There are a certain amount of people that would pay double

the asking price, to maybe triple, to maybe four times the asking price to be holding an

action in their own hands within 30 days. Building one action straight through takes him

HOW LONG?!? 100 hours, 200, 35??? Building 10, 20 or 100 in a "run", what ever number his

efficiency would kick in to shrink production TIME down measurably has so much potentially

to do with this. You are a supporter of him here. Call him and ask him these straight questions.

ASK HIM FLAT OUT HOW MANY ACTIONS MUST HE MAKE IN A RUN TO CUT PRODUC-

TION TIME DOWN BY A MEASURABLE AMOUNT AT PRESENT PRICES. HOW LONG DOES

IT TAKE TO MAKE 1, 10, 65? If the guy needs 60 hours to make one, and that can't be improved

upon till he's running out 25, how many hours fewer, per unit, does he need? And find out

each incremental time improvement AS MORE ARE PRODUCED IN A RUN. I am convinced this

delivery time hurdle can be corrected IF honest numbers are known. But if all this info

remains cloudy it's almost hopeless for sure. You said earlier if some rich guy ordered 30

actions and paid for them it could salvage this delivery time mess. Well if 30 interested

AVERAGE guys chipped in the same thing would happen. Us average guys would REQUIRE something

to secure our money though, 'cause we can't throw it away and shrug it off. Hence my afore-

mentioned ESCROW ACCOUNT idea which was endorsed by another poster a few posts up. And while

you're on the phone with SS tell him not to waist time posting anything much here at all,

unless it's short and of the same class as his ACTIONS are. If he did that his POSTS would

be contenders for TOP SPOT IN THE WORLD TOO, just like his rifle ACTIONS are now! I AM SURE

that the guys mad at SS over delivery don't want to be mad. If the delivery time thing can

be assuredly fixed I think many of those angry folks might even order again. I make a motion

that we go toward fixing the problem with our posts, and discontinue the posts that are not

productive, maybe even deleting some the the posts that have been put up.

22WRF;
I would use the word "unprofessional" instead of "stupid".

Professionalism all around is the key to making any endeavor work. I try to promote that type of conduct and I hope I am successful. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

If anyone has a grievance they want to make public, suggestion, or even just a comment, be professional about it. At the worst, it is a positive reflection on your character; at best, it might make matters better.

Thos are classic ones from the sixties. Much better than the all plastic ones of today.

That would explain it, was already playing with guns by 64. I must have overlooked a lot in my youth, went from model airplanes to guns and then discovered girls. Still kind of like the guns and girls, not so much for the model airplanes though.

Thanks for posting the pictures, I had never seen them before.
