Yesssssssssssssssss! I have a 505 Gibbs Enfield enroute, and Dave Manson says I will have reamers in hand in four weeks or less! Switch out that barrel, and get to abusing myself.

Four months from Boomie asking me about a a 600 and my answer that "..only if you are willing to headspace it on the case mouth like a 45acp..." to his hour later response "...why not just put a belt on it..." to working with Ed Hubel to create belted cases...to reamers being made, and my being able to shoot the first one come middle of October.

Not bad for a "dreamer", I'd venture to say.

Of course, we need to offer kudos to Neal Shirley for making 4000 cases available, and to Ed Hubel for being able to make the belt on the 505 Gibbs cylindrical and providing Dave Manson with two sample cases (got them today) and final dimensional drawings. Thanks also to Dave for taking an interest and expediting the reamers. They will allow for a file and trim die as well as reloading dies and chambering the rifle. He says I will have them in hand in four weeks or less!

I take no credit, except for recognizing a "good thing" and being in position to facilitate the process. Maybe, cheerleader is a more semantically proper description. Anyway, I get to actually build the rifle and shoot it first!!!

Rich

prior to making the first rifle, it would suit you well to send a drawing and a letter to the ATF techincal and ask for a ruling that it be a sporting round. you do NOT want a DD exception, you want it a sporting round. reference the style of weapon suitable and that this is actually smaller than the other 585s

GET IT REGISTERED as a sporting round

Tested some loads
today in my 585 with volume reduced to
match the 3" 577 Belted Mag.750 gr bullet.
Everything extacts easy,most could
be reloaded and shot without resizing.
Thr RL powders could be loaded higher
with compressed loads, and pressures
still would be moderate.

RL-22- 125gr.....1750 fps
RL-22- 135gr.....1850 fps

RL-19- 125gr.....1860 fps
RL-19- 135gr.....1950 fps

RL-15- 125gr.....2140 fps
RL-15- 135gr.....2250 fps

7383 Surplus-110gr.....1770 fps
7383 Surplus-120gr.....1900 fps(Max load)

I tested 7383 as Rich wanted to see what
it would do if someone has some to use,
being it is 3-4 bucks a lb. None of these
expanded my cases more than the called for
base size with the cases starting out after
resizing only .002" smaller. So shows
moderate pressures. Love my belted cases.
Will test IMR powders and ball powders
next few days. The ball powders will get
Trex loads if wanted without hurting brass.Ed

thank you Ed! I am really liking those W-748 numbers.
I have a Krieger 577 barrel enroute (get it in gear UPS!!) and am still figuring out which rifle to convert. I really like my CZ 505 Gibbs as the master frozen water in a milk jug blaster, so it will most likely be done on my M30 Remington with the Wisner sheet metal. My guy can start as soon as the barrel gets here, he has the Enfield 505 Gibbs apart and is contouring the 550 barrel I got from Jeffe.

I can hear the fiddle player tuning up...
