I will be starting the 2 Bore Jones Underlever Black Powder Cartridge Side by Side Rifle in a few weeks....I have named this one "The Double Deuce" and I will be including video as well as written and photo documentation of this build.
Due to the length and complexity of this project I won't be posting individual updates on each forum I am a member of like I have done for my other documented builds. I have set up a Blog at Wordpress and will only be updating that blog. When I update the blog I will post in this thread that I have added a new update.

People will be welcome to ask me questions or make comments in this thread and I will try to answer them as I have time.

Here is the link to my WordPress blog:
http://stolzergunsmithing.wordpress.com/

You can also find the link on the home page of my business website.

Thanks for your understanding.

I think the appropriate matching side arm for this shoulder cannon should be a double break action howdah pistol chambered in 45-70

Or you could just go with the 2 Bore Muzzleloading pistol as a back-up...

One of these days I'll find the time to finish that "Little Hand Cannon".

I'm guessing a smooth bore?
Next up the 2 bore revolver animal
That would look more like a semi auto grenade launcher.
Damn that would be the most powerful pistol ever
Round balls at 900 FPS? Have to calculate the recoil on that one. Would need to know weight of bullet, powder charge and pistol weight.
Might want to add a bayonet to help with muzzle rise. Stick the animal with the bayonet then pull the trigger.

Actually that is a left over chunk of barrel from a 2 Bore Muzzleloader I built a while back, and it's rifled. A Patched round ball for that weighs about 3350 grains cast in wheel weights. The pistol weighs about 7 pounds right now and that won't change much. The pistol has a recessed powder chamber on it, that holds a minimum of 100 grains, but you could theoretically load it as heavy as a rifle load. I've never gone past 500grs FFg with one of the rifles.

The best possible way to deal with muzzle rise on that pistol is to never load it or fire it. Just throw it at the Elephant and run away. rotflmo

Might want to make it so you can screw in a smooth bore barrel extension and shoulder stock attachment. Aluminum pistol grip?End cap to hide the threads. Use with or without the barrel extension but shoulder stock is a must. Could just be considered a three part take down 2 bore Smiler

Actually I have no intention of every shooting it with a real charge in it. I only started building it because I had the pieces laying around. It's mostly for the "mine is bigger than yours" crowd. What you do is take it to the range and leave it in the truck/car...then when the inevitable discussion of mine is bigger gets going you go get it and offer to let them prove how manly they are...

It's pretty much a conversation stopper.

The pistol could be fired.
Use it like a blunderbus.
Stuff it with rocks or glass or chain or lead shot like they did in the old days. Just make custom cups and wads. Shoot two ounces of OO buck shot out of it. Should have a matching pair. Would be good for pirates to board ships.

How can you determine accuracy when the bullet diameter is equal to 1 MOA lol
I guess if you are shooting clover leaf groups with a 2 bore thats not much bragging rights animal
Looks like you are making great progress.

Actually a cloverleaf is a pretty good bragging right...most guys can't stand two shots in a row, putting three in a cloverleaf from a rifle with this much recoil is pretty impressive by most standards.

Not enough video to make it worth posting...the holiday cut into my work. We had family come over for Thanksgiving and my wife had to work nights Mon, Tue, Wed...so my son and I ended up doing all the house work Wednesday so that the place was ready for company Thursday and Friday.

Some time this coming week I should have enough new footage to make a new video worth posting.

Glad you're enjoying it. I don't know that it's all that great...it's just the steps involved in building a double rifle. Lots of other gunsmiths around the world are more experienced at it than I am.
