I have 2 spots left for our group going to Newfoundland for an October 4th-9th (2015) Moose hunt. This 5 day hunt includes guide, lodging, meals and license for one bull Moose. This time of year usually has the Moose in full rut, and the trophy potential is great for those willing pass on younger bulls. Newfoundland boasts the largest Moose population with an estimated 140,000-150,000 Moose. Normally this hunt is $4,500 but I can offer a price of $3,500 if you join our group. This hunt is for rifle or bow. Local meat processing, taxidermy needs & shipping is available. One of my clients shipped 494 lbs of boned out, vacuum sealed Moose home last season. Fly into Deer Lake, NFD or drive if your close enough to take advantage of the Ferry (5 hour ride). Outfitter is Crabbes River Outfitters. You can add a black bear for $1,000 trophy fee. Deposit is $800 with the balance payable before the hunt begins. If you cancel, you forfeit your deposit. However, any funds sent above your deposit will be refunded. Most hunters tag out on Moose in 1 to 3 days, leaving time to hunt bear (over bait) or fish.
Prices include license(s), taxes, guide service and camp accommodations for 5 days. It does not include extra transportation cost, accommodations outside camp, meat packaging (cutting, vacuum sealing, etc.), antler/cape preparation by taxidermist or shipment of meat/cape/antlers by air or ground transport. Taxi fares from and to airport are not included in the package price. References available.

Unfortunately fishing season closes before the hunt. All that you can do is drool over all those beautiful creeks, rivers, and lakes.

My understanding is Fall season for Salmon runs Sept 8 - Oct 7th and similar for Trout. I know some waters are catch and release only and some retention. Does affect our group but those hunting before us could take advantage if it if they wish. Our dates are for the rut and focused more on Moose & Bear, but if time permitted, I would want to fish even for a day. Everyone took a rod/reel last year but never fished any. NFD's regs on fishing reminds me of waterfowl regulations

and don't forget that those wonderful cold water lobsters from Newfoundland are served at the restaurants

Just to give folks an idea what kind of deal this is, I hunted Moose/Woodland Caribou and Black Bear on Newfoundland in 1996, and the base price was $4200.00.

I really wish I was in a position to do this hunt, because Newfoundland is an extraordinary place to visit and hunt.

Newfoundland, whether a person is hunting or not is a hell of an experience.

That is a very good bull for Nfld.

If I was not already tied up with prior commitments I would take you up on that spot.
Maybe next year if it is available again.

Long drive out there and back, but I would definitely drive so that I could load up with lobster to bring home with the moose meat.

That is true Skyline. Lots of 30" bulls and the occasional 40 incher but one must be willing to pass on those bulls and hold out for a trophy class bull. Luck doesn't hurt either. Lots of good bears too.

JGRaider; some of it depends upon your own choices but the best scenario is to fly into Deer Lake, rent a car (split cost with another hunter/carpool) and drive to Shepardsville. Spend the night (lots of B&B's and much more to see & do than in Deer Lake). Costs are reasonable for both. It is about 100 miles from Deer Lake into camp so we carpool a rental.
One of my clients from last year paid around $400 for full processing (boned out, butchered, vacuum sealed and frozen)then at the end of the season they shipped his meat (494 lbs) to Ft Worth, TX for around $700. Gratuities are optional. Other than that, items of a personal nature are up to you when in town.

I have included the cost of the hunt ($3,500) plus motel (before and after our hunt) and van rental to and from camp. Total cost to join us is $3,920. We arrive in Deer Lake, NFD on the evening of October 1st and will leave Deer Lake on Oct., 11th. Our plan is to arrive early in case the previous hunters tag out early which allows us to enter camp a day or two before the 4th, when we are scheduled to arrive. Our party will have the camp to ourselves. 4x4's/ATV's will allow you to access the more remote areas and transport your Moose once you have it on the ground. Taxidermy prep/shipping plus butchering/processing/shipping your meat or trophy home is available. Time is getting near so contact me right away if you can join us. This will be a great hunt and the price is right. Odd's of taking a Moose is near 100%

Last time I was there (2013) I could no longer get my meat shipped to west of Rockies, had to take it as checked luggage. Is that still the same? I used countryside to cut and pack my meat.

I have a really nice Yukon moose, a skull mounted BC moose, and would love to have the Newfie. Moose hunting with calls is a great hunt. Unfortunately, I have another hunt booked.

eny, last year they shipped one of my clients meat as far west as Fort Worth, TX. I'll have to inquire how far they transport meat westward. It is processed to a clients specifications, vacuum packaged and frozen. At the end of the Moose season, all meat is transported by truck into the USA. Will advise.

Hopefully, the rut will do what we're hoping, bring in mature, heavy antlered bulls to the call.

This is a great deal and Newfoundland is such a good place to visit. If we had not just gotten back from a long African trip and safari I would be all over this like Crazyhorse.

I enjoyed this hunt a lot. I took this bruin early in the hunt and it ranks as my best black bear.

I didn't take a Moose until the last morning of our hunt, having passed other similar bulls. Although I only saw one trophy class bull, I believe everyone else saw a number of quality bulls. Remote country is an understatement but the camp was good (beds were a little lacking)and the food was very good and plenty of it. Having hot showers and the means to take care of meat was a big plus. The best part of the Moose was him responding to my guides calling. Watching & hearing him come down the mountain from 600+ yards to within 100 yards for a Mexican stand off. After 10 minutes of what seemed an eternity, he decided to leave. As he turned, it gave me the perfect angle. My 280 did the job once again. Anyone interested in next year should contact me ASAP.

One of the finest wild game meats you'll ever taste: Moose steak from Newfoundland! Absolutely no gamey flavor, so tender it compares to filet mignon with a comparable taste. Grilled over charcoal, I slow cooked pinto beans, fried cabbage, sautéed asparagus in lemon pepper and infused mushrooms with my teriyaki jalapeño marinade. Topped off with an Alexander Keith's IPA. Dinner that rivals any restaurant. Thanks to Everett and Angus Kettle of Crabbes River Outfitters, I am able to enjoy this fantastic venison! Can't wait to get back up there and go after Moose again!
