I'll be back in Namibia in March '08 and already my mouth is watering for barbequed kudu or oryx dipped and cooked in oil (Bushman fondue). What other favorites do all have?

I am not particularly fond of crocodile or ostrich - especially the way it is served at Joe's.

The best thing I ever ate in Africa, maybe anywhere, was Guinea pie.

Eland filet or kudu filet,,, this time in a year I should be smelling the wood and hear the meat sizzle as I down a sundowner! I have heard the hippo is tremendous,,, just hasn't been on my trophy list yet and thus not fresh in camp..

I had kudu or eland in some form just about everyday on my last hunt and it was all good. Mtn. zebra is good as well, but my favorite has got to be gemsbuck fillet.

When we eat beef it's usually a grilled tenderloin at home or fillet in restaurants. My 11 yr old daughter loved the eland fillet we had in Namibia last year. She mentioned several times how good it was. And I was quite impressed with the chicken-fried ostrich we had there also.

Not game meat but I stayed at Afton Guest House last week and they took us to the steak restaurant (can't remember the name) and the beef fillet there was very good.

Having shot a Gorilla, and other primates, I do not eat them.

My favorite is guinea foul on the Brie.
Second is wildebest, then giraffe.

Cape Buff Balls, sliced thin, floured and fried make a great appetiser, fried buff stomach is good too [at least I think that is what it was].

No mention of springbok? My impression is that it is considered the very best (and commands the highest price in commercial channels) of all of the antelope in southern Africa.

Everything I had was good, but as Yogi Berra might say, "Oryx and Gemsbok taste a lot alike to me."

Howdy,

I enjoyed fresh Gemsbok liver(Southern Namibia 2004) grilled on a wood fire - very good and would have been enough for the meal.

Adios

If you get opportunity, try giraffe, its very good.
I have had giraffe biltong a few times and potjie with giraffe twice, very lekker.

Most game I have found to be good. The only really gamey meat I have had was from a Nyala - but it was gut-shot and ran a while- could have had an effect.
Red duiker was a bit strong, but was also fresh (didn't hang), perhaps the reason?

The one and only Reedbuck I have shot I remember being bloody good, as is warthog and bushpig(bushpig burgers with avo slices...).

Springbok liver, wrapped in bacon, braaied and then have it with The Mrs. HaS BAllS hot chutney...good.

I had lion biltong once- it was old and dry and tasted like old dry too salty biltong, so can't really comment!

I've gotta second the Impala Liver and Scrambled Eggs w/ or w/o onions as the all-round best BREAKFAST treat ever made on a stove - period, in RSA you get Pap (Grits) with it too.....a touch of Tabasco is mandatory.....

For the EVENING meal a meduim-rare Zebra Fillet with a South African Dry Red Wine is the only way to fly, followed by the same in Eland & Springbok.

Cheers,
