Todd

Damn all thru this thread I thought you actually liked and owned a few blasers and that is why they were making fun of you.

But I am known to be a little slow and stubborn.

I have one rifle I need to buy - mainly as a backup to my cz 375 and I was leaning towards a M-03 or a blaser without the fancy wood.

But since this is such a silly thread, and I must sincerely thank by old lion hunting buddy Jines for getting it started, (check 6 at dinner this weekend pard) I hesitate to add anything of a serious note, but since the question was asked, I'll respond.

What's wrong with a Blaser, seriously. Really nothing if they trip your trigger. For me, they don't. I really can't think of an uglier rifle on the market, and no, a nice stick of wood doesn't make any difference IMO. Lipstick on a PIG at best. I'll grant that they are accurate and all the other accolades, however I find the switch barrel feature to be a red herring as far as features go. I'm not going to take a single rifle on safari, with two barrels chambered differently, thereby switching them out depending upon what type of game animal we come across. That simply isn't going to happen. Personally, I just prefer to own two rifles instead of one rifle with two different chamberings. Many disagree.

Take a look at these M-70s below. They are not my rifles, but really are a thing of beauty. I find great delight in their sleek, slender and flowing lines as opposed to the closed grip, harsh lines of the Blaser. Hard to disagree that the cocking device on the Blaser is a good design, but I still prefer the 3 position safety of the M-70. I doubt the accuracy or trigger on any Blaser is substantially better than these two semi-custom Winchesters. What it really boils down to is I have my preferences for what a hunting rifle should look and feel like. In some ways, such as the fine lines of a bolt gun, I'm a traditionalist. In others, such as in ammo for my doubles, I'm not as I prefer the flat nosed monometal bullets.

Honestly, my biggest fear on the ele hunt I just completed is that my rifles would get misrouted and not show up in Zim, causing me to have to rely on Buzz's camp rifle to conduct the hunt. That rifle being a synthetic stocked Blaser 375 H&H, scoped. Oh the HORROR! barf

Mike,
Don't be afraid of the Blaser. I handled several of the R8's before I bit the bullet and I'm happy with the decision. They shoot crazy well and fit the bill for me.

Fair enough Todd - I respect your thoughts about a rifle salute I will continue hunting with my Blasers as I have since 1996 with great pleasure tu2

At least we agree on the VC doubles - but between men it is a continously quarrel about hunting guns. My little Chapuis 8x57 JSR is called The French Hooker by my hunting friend, but he loves to shoot it. When he heard that another french hooker was joining the party he cannot wait to shoot that either.. Wink

I wish you guys a friendly happening in Dallas.. hopefully without any strong cold !?

I wonder ow long it will be before shootaway discovers the magic, beauty and rugged functionality of a Blaser rifle? Once he fills that square the only firearm types he won't have schooled us on are, handgun, shotgun and fully auto belt fed heavy machine gun.

Personally I can't wait for the Blaser chapter to open in the life of the shootaway.

You know Shootaway is a firearms or shooting genius.

I have a video of me shooting a buffalo cow (have to clarify everything these days) - its was taken on a iphone and the cow was sick - screw worms. I should find it and post it for him.

Not to mention that Blaser barf (sorry, I threw up a little in my mouth just thinking about it), does make a double rifle ... sort of! coffee

Now, taking a set of files to that contraption could only help matters I should think! Couldn't hurt at least. nilly

Todd there are some very good uses for the Blaser double rifle as is. Here are a few.

Tomato stake
Fence post
Boat anchor
Survey marker
Ice axe
Wind chime
Window brace
Depth finder, just tie a string to it and throw it over board.

The uses for that rifle really are limitless.

You forgot to add boat paddle and emergency Crutch to the list. Unloaded of course unless you want to loan it to Shootaway.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
