In Dallas, I bet I could find you a "queen" and I've personally never been in a closet(nor one to come out of) . Hate to disappoint you. If it will help, I will bring a pink shirt to DSC.

Most likely, but cruising those areas in Dallas for a pink hawaian shirt would most likely get me put in jail. Besides, I'm not sure of his size.

Yeah, the sheath was a bit small, and one I had saved from my youth. It really didn't fit any longer but it was all I could find before leaving the house and I just didn't want to go "unprotected" knowing that a photo op was likely that day.

Seriously - why this hatred of blasers ? I was all set to buy one and take it to Africa. I had originally seen one at the shot show and spoken to the blaser people and was impressed with the gun. It was well suited for a left hander but was not the most beautiful design but very practical. All set to buy one at DSC when I booked my first hunt. The PH I was hunting with was adamant I not buy one cause he had a AD with one. I ended up getting a cz (same gun used by PH) upgraded by AHR and its a great gun. A few years later I asked him why he had the AD and he replied cause he pulled the trigger. There was nothing wrong with the gun or the cocking mechanism. I may still get one - its the most innovative design in bolt action rifles in a long time. Maybe the M-03 - all the blaser features and more traditional. I have to admit this is a very funny thread. We need to get Shootaway to come to DSC in 2015. Maybe he can give a seminar on shooting with iron sights.

The old saying of form follows function is true with Blasers. They do put some beautiful wood on them. Shoot one and your opinion will change. Matt

Seriously -- there is not a damn thing wrong with a Blaser. Let's see, they are scary accurate, reliable as the day is long, the trigger is the best made on any rifle, the straight pull bolt system is very fast and the cocking lever makes them the safest rifle to carry in the field next to an unloaded rifle. Plus you get a quick detach scope system that is flawless and interchangeable barrels. So what is not to like about them. They have a non-traditional lock up and bolt system. But we all know some fellows like skinny girls, some fellows like fat girls, some fellows like motorcycles, some fellows like scooters, some fellows like dressing contemporary, some fellows like dressing in the 50's, . . . . Morten, Re-gifting is when you take a gift given to you, that you really don't want, and wrap it back up in gift paper, then give it to someone else as a gift. But since this is such a silly thread, and I must sincerely thank by old lion hunting buddy Jines for getting it started, (check 6 at dinner this weekend pard) I hesitate to add anything of a serious note, but since the question was asked, I'll respond. What's wrong with a Blaser, seriously. Really nothing if they trip your trigger. For me, they don't. I really can't think of an uglier rifle on the market, and no, a nice stick of wood doesn't make any difference IMO. Lipstick on a PIG at best. I'll grant that they are accurate and all the other accolades, however I find the switch barrel feature to be a red herring as far as features go. I'm not going to take a single rifle on safari, with two barrels chambered differently, thereby switching them out depending upon what type of game animal we come across. That simply isn't going to happen. Personally, I just prefer to own two rifles instead of one rifle with two different chamberings. Many disagree. Take a look at these M-70s below. They are not my rifles, but really are a thing of beauty. I find great delight in their sleek, slender and flowing lines as opposed to the closed grip, harsh lines of the Blaser. Hard to disagree that the cocking device on the Blaser is a good design, but I still prefer the 3 position safety of the M-70. I doubt the accuracy or trigger on any Blaser is substantially better than these two semi-custom Winchesters. What it really boils down to is I have my preferences for what a hunting rifle should look and feel like. In some ways, such as the fine lines of a bolt gun, I'm a traditionalist. In others, such as in ammo for my doubles, I'm not as I prefer the flat nosed monometal bullets. Honestly, my biggest fear on the ele hunt I just completed is that my rifles would get misrouted and not show up in Zim, causing me to have to rely on Buzz's camp rifle to conduct the hunt. That rifle being a synthetic stocked Blaser 375 H&H, scoped. Oh the HORROR!

Todd, you forgot to mention that the Blaser could also be placed broken down in a short compact case for airline travel. Many think this is the most important attribute of a takedown rifle these days. Leave the second barrel at home and instead carry two of them in the compact Americase on safari. Not as beautiful as a takedown stalking rifle, but easily as functional especially since they will be as accurate and offer a quick follow up shot. All that said I will be taking a Heym double and a Smithson bolt to Zim this year
|
One of Us |
That's true, but ... you can have a traditional bolt gun built as a take down as well if it's important to you. Actually, for me, it is important now that I've hunted with two doubles broken down in the small Americase, but I'm still just not attracted to the Blaser system. I'm hoping to engage Butch to build that take down Stalking rifle this year. For some reason, the looks of that rifle really appeals to me, AND it has the ability to fit in my Americase.
|

I think the takedown feature in smaller cases just makes the gun easier to steal by airport personnel .
