Top picture looks like a variant of the Westley C-bolt top bite.
Maybe going to be a droplock of sorts but with a removable trigger plate action instead of removable locks only.

Did I read correctly that these rifles are available in switch barrel? How does that work with a falling block action??

Yep,

Baily has figured out how to lock up a set of barrels with a latching system that should be trouble free.

So the barrels on the breech end are tapered like a blunt cigar and fit into the action in front of the falling block. There is a latch that pulls it into the lock and locks it in place.

I had asked about this as a falling block double rifle was appealing, but a pain when it comes to shipping and travelling. 2 sets of barrels in different calibers makes this a very versatiel gun and an excellent value.

Wow! I am no engineer or metal / dynamics expert. I sincerely hope that Bailey is successful in this initiative & can patent it! How cool would that be!

I presume it would be easier to make than a break open action.

The only other question I have is, would it not be easier to get a precise fit if the barrel ends were sqared to fit into a square recess rather than round?

Think of 2 parallel cylinders that are attached to one another somewhere close to the muzzle and then again in let's say...2 more spots for arguments sake. Then think of the end which seats in the action of each barrel being tapered. Then think of a locking lever that pulls both barrels into the action and locks them there.

Once they are in place they cannot rotate around one another as they have been effectively anchored at the breech end. No need for square stock. I would think the corners and edges would be prone to stress in square profile barrels.

I have a bit of advantage as I have seen several photographs of the mechanism Bailey is using. With Bailey's description and the pictures...It dawned on me. Once that happened...I ordered a 2nd set of barrrels. As you know, falling block actions can be extremely stout, no pin to wear out, etc. I think it looks rather elegant as well.

I hate to speak for Bailey, but I think the idea behind having the male tapered breach face and the female tapered action is you have more surface area to bear up against, preventing wear and locking up tighter.

By having a tennon like any other rifle barrel(or squared) all your bearing surface is on one small area, versus the entire tapered tennon.

I think this calls for a wildcat for a second barrel set. The 375 BB a 450 NE necked to the 375

Aaron has it pretty close. The barrels being tapered allow them to compensate for wear. In fact, all of the bearing surfaces are tapered.

The pictures at the top of the thread show the mechanism with the barrels in place, and taken off.

It's moving along nicely. More pictures in the next couple of days. The stock looks like it would glow in the dark with that intense curly grain.

Went by Bailey's shop during a recent visit to the Lone Star state. Bailey is a real gentleman and saw the 450/400 that is pictured.

In addition he had two of his single shot rifles that he graciously allowed me to shoot and they were very nice, well balanced and had sleek lines.

Bailey is a class act and I will highly consider a rifle from him, as soon as other rifles I have being built are completed.

I have some Bad news and some Good news!

The Bad news Bailey wont have my double ready for the Jumbo hunt because of some time restraints.
The Good news the Jumbo wont hear the thunder of 2 450 NE bullets headed to his think tank. Just the wee one of a 416.
The other good news is this will give Bail more time to complete the engraving without being rushed. He will have it ready for all to see in Dallas in Jan.
Hook stay away from the shop let Bailey get done.
