As long as this new 17-25 ACP ultraMag can penetrate a stop sign it should be good to go as a top shelf deer round. We’ll have to send it off to Seafire for testing. My stop sign is shot all to hell so it wouldn’t give an accurate reading.Big Grin

Never thought about it before--Is a sign penetration an effective measure of anything? See a lot of em shot up.

Heck......anyone can neck down a .25 ACP.....only the best can neck it up! The .45-70-25ACP is often not used for cape buffalo!

I'm going to a gun show next weekend to see if I can't find one. They are quite rare and bullet seating is very delicate I'm told.

No it is an indication of some low-life destroying public property.

Don't know if true. There was a deer crossing sign at a curve and there were several car/deer collisions there. Some old lady asked "why dont they move that sign so they'll cross at a safer place?"

Good Luck VD! Due to the fact that the projectile is a larger diameter than the cartridge case, there is no record of anyone being able to chamber a live round of the .45-70-25ACP in a breach loading firearm and successfully firing it. There was an effort to use the .45-70-25ACP in a muzzle loading configuration but most often the firing pin just punted the cartridge back up the barrel without igniting the primer.

A word on my experience not shooting the 25ACP. I have not taken game as large as elephant with the 25ACP. This leads me to believe that it is very adequate for not taking any game on the planet. Just as an aside think of all the wars that have been lost by countries not issuing the 25ACP as their primary infantry weapon.

That's the entire reason for this hard hitting new round.....

Just think of all the folks that won't hunt cape bullalo with it.....further just think of how many totally bullshit threads won't be written on the internet about this! This is a round long past due for serious non hunters!

Hey folks....we got a long ways to go to get to the 12 pages of the other "small round for big game" running here. At least this one has some redeeming value and isn't controversial! sofa

vapodog---This thread isn't controversial? It is too. Why you hijacking my thread? I just read on another thread that this thread is bs. That's controversy. Gotta stick to the topic. You guys keep introducing ways to improve the .25ACP and we wont be able to use it on game animals--have to use it on tanks.

popcorn I've been reluctant to even bring this up - but - I've witnessed " 1 " 7-pointer Killed by a guy shooting a 2" barrel 25ACP Saturday-night Special! shocker

Anyone care to ponder on how it was accomplished?
-----

By the way, it was illegal then(where it happened) and is still illegal today. When I pointed that out to the guy, he said, "I don't see any Game Warden!" He did not get to hunt that property ever again.

How it was accomplished: The deer was tangled in a woven wire fence and your friend emptied the .25 into it and then beat it's brains out with the butt?

My dad always carried a Colt Woodsman (.22 lr) pistol to use for a finishing shot close up in the head if he had a down deer. This was probably illegal but would have been legal with a centerfire--.25ACP.

Now that you mention it, The mind boggles at the legion of hard core fanatics that will never gather to pay homage to the .45-70-25ACP. The dedicated brain dead inventor whose name who will never be uttered in reverential tones. The magazine articles and books that will never be written about the .45-70-25ACP. I just can't think of a round that deserves many more decades of non-existence than the .45-70-25ACP.

It was a Dog Drive and the 7-pointer came out of the woods low-to-the-ground(aka wide-open). The 00BuckShot from the old Blue Paper Peters Hulls hit just a bit too far back, because I had to shoot at the Deer left handed while sitting on the ground. The Deer rolled 2-3 flips and was bawling, but could not regain it's footing.

Before I could get off the ground, a tall-lanky guy went past me as if he was taking 10ft strides(obviously less, but he was sure moving). He ran right up to the Deer and I heard a small "pooft". He had placed the 25ACP in the Deer's ear and Killed it.

It was illegal because of the barrel length and cartridge. Pistols/revolvers had to be 6" or more and 357Mags or better. The 12ga he was also carrying would have been legal.

But the 25ACP did Kill that 7-pointer.

There were 5 other people in that group and they had "other problems" on the land as well. So, they never got to come back.

Big Grin You must have forgotten I use it to "Hang Targets"(tapping in thumb tacks), so I did not happen to have it with me. Big Grin

The sledge would have worked a lot better than a 2-D cell flashlight thumbdown(light weight, not the excellent Mag-Lite), which I've also seen in use.

The data on a .410 shotgun slug is quite anemic as well at about 400 ft-lb....but is still ahead of the .25 ACP by quite a margin....57 ft-lb?.....wow.....no wonder dinosaurs became extinct! animal

hotsore a$$shoots a deer, and the guy that finishes the "bawling" deer with a mersy shot is the one that gets run off the place? NICE

" I had to shoot at the Deer left handed while sitting on the ground" ... no, you didn't HAVE to, you had choosen to.. and a$$shot it, inhumanely shooting game, ...

but i REALLY have to ask, since the other fella got run off ... do you claim that as one of the "many thousand" head of deer you've killed, or was that one just gutshot and left to die until a dude with a 25 bust'a'cap in its head?

Hot core--You once said you had to disagree with me you could think of hundreds of shots you had taken with a big gun that a smaller wouldnt work. You implied with bigger gun it forgives. Was this one of those hundereds? If you dont have a good shot you pass. This was not a good shot. Having to shoot left handed and all. And you attempt to make using a .223 an "ethical" question?

Boy-O Boy, you guys are in full form this morning.

For jeffe(who can't shoot anything without a Lead Sled) and carpetman - I'm thinking BAD thoughts about you all. rotflmo

Actually that 7-pointer was " 1 " of the 6-shots I've taken in over five decades that could definitely have been placed better. It is easy to remember those 6, which keeps me from repeating them.

How `bout you carpetman? Ever taken a shot you were not happy about?

I know jeffe has never actually Killed anything. The only thing he is really good at shooting is his LOUD blow-hard mouth. rotflmo

So far we have necked it up and necked it down and even made the coveted "AI" version.....

Anyone chamber it in a Marlin 39A?
