let me just say a lot more than the black powder loads for it will ever generate. If the barrel was made of actual 4140 barrel steel it would easily handle smokeless powder loads....the shooter probably wouldn't but the action would.

I'd prefer not to say what I loaded it with, but the PSI was about 3 times what the max black powder load would produce.

While I appreciate the compliment of being compared to the traditional British Gunmakers and understand your sentiments about wanting me to be able to make modern firearms, I spent more than a few years, quite a chunk of money and several trips through the federal court system to remove myself as much as possible from the Federal Gov't System. Keep in mind I am a gunmaker and very well armed, so while kidnapping and coercion might sound like a good plan on the surface, it could be very bad for your health... Big Grin rotflmo

Thing is Colin now has a lifetime of work just
doing super great 2 and 4 and maybe 8
bore replicas, if he wants, he will never have time
to make anything else. And under those
circumstances, really, big bore nuts, wouldn't want
him to go back to smaller.Ed

If Murphy(Murphy's law) hadn't stopped by to visit with me this morning I would be posting an update with finished pictures, but as it is all you get is an update and you'll have to wait until later in the week(hopefully) for the finished pictures and maybe even video's of some of the first shots.
2 Bore Page 5

Bigdoggy will probably be the first person on this forum to get to see it in person, because I will be stopping by his place next month to pick up the 2 Bore Boxlock Muzzleloader on my way to the NMLRA Spring Shoot(June 12-20th). But if anyone is going to be at the NMLRA shoot please feel free to stop by, I should be in booth 110 and I'd love to put some faces to the names on this Forum. I'll also be doing an engraving demonstration Sunday Night(June 13th) at the Gunmakers Hall. I should have 3 - 2 Bores with me, Bigdoggy's Steve Zihn 2 Bore(Steve asked me to pick it up and display it for him in my booth since he couldn't make the trip this time), Bigdoggy's 2 Bore Boxlock that I built and the 2 Bore Jones Underlever. I'll also have at least one other rifle with me(a .50cal Muzzleloader) possibly one of my SxS muzzleloaders and maybe one of my pistols(waiting on customers to ship them back to me so I can take them to the show). Like I said I'd love to meet some of you if you are going to be there.

* Length of pull, drop at comb, drop at heel and style of stock were all built to the customers specification.
* Stock: Sugar Maple w/ ebony forearm tip, stained to customers specifications, oil finished, and carnuba waxed.
* Checkering: 20 Line Per Inch Semi-flattop, borderless.
* Finish: Action, Underlever, Triggerguard, Grip Cap, Back action lock, Off-side plate, and escheutons are Color Case Hardened, the monoblock and barrel are rust blued, the screws are nitre blued.

* The Rotary Underlever acts to the right, at the request of the Customer, all other functions are left handed.
* Engraving is a custom pattern by Stolzer and Son's in traditional broad acanthus leaves.

The only thing remaining to do on this rifle is develop a load, file and blue the rear sight. I'll try to get videos posted of me shooting it when I do some of the sight in work.

Thank You all for the compliments.

I'll get out and shoot it pretty soon, but right now I am stacked pretty deep in stuff, with a bunch of local things going on that I am part of and with the NMLRA show coming up in a couple weeks.

You'll have to wear a bib when I stop by in a couple weeks, I can't have you leaving drool all over this one before the show. Big Grin

Nitro450exp, I'm pretty sure you don't have to win the lottery, I'm not that expensive and I'm pretty flexible with the finances. Ask Bigdoggy, I bet he'll tell you I'm pretty easy to work with.

It just amazes me that this project started out as a block of steel and a log. Months later reveals a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Thank you for the kind words.

"block of steel and a log"...hmm, a guy has to start somewhere. Big Grin Actually this all started with a customer who saw the 2 Bore Boxlock muzzleloader and said "Would you be willing to build me a 2 Bore based on the S&H brass?". That'll teach me to talk to customers.... Wink Big Grin

May I ask why you are loading with a spherical ball, what advantage, if any will that give over Jay's turned solid "semi-wadcutter" bullet?

The rifle is set up with a 1:48 twist, at the customers request. He wants to be able to shoot cast round balls(cheap to cast on his own time), paradox style lighter weight cast conicals(2500grains, he's having a mould made by NEI for them), and S&H solids if he chooses. So the answer is, you can shoot a lot of lead round balls for the cost of a single brass solid. It also fits nicely with the original idea of the large bore rifles that primarily shot round balls(nastolgia).
