Trophyhunter5000, all it takes is time and money to get one, you provide the money and I will provide the time. Smiler

nitro450exp, the fuzzy critters are so cute though, and then we feed them up and kill them. Smiler It's getting closer to being done, just a little more patience.

This weeks up date is on my website:

You know,
It's one thing to not know how a rifle groups.
It's another to be afraid to find out!
I don't know if I could survive the 3 shots to find out. rotflmo

Are you supposed to schedual physical therapy after a range sesion?

Well there are some things to consider about groups, for one thing, a single shot from this will cover a 5 shot group from every other gun I own, except one of my double rifles. Secondly 99.999% of the people on the planet are never going to shoot this rifle, and of the .001% who might, how many of them do you think are going to put a second round through it, let alone a third... rotflmo

I'm just kidding, the truth is with these 2 Bores, you start out low and work up to the load that you can tolerate and then you stop right there(before you get yourself hurt) and sight in for that. With this rifle I've had numerous conversations with the customer and I'm going to work up the best load for accuracy within what he believes is going to be his top limit. With this having a standard NECG rear sight, if the load is to much for him and it needs to be backed down, then all he has to do is order another sight, work up the load he can tolerate and then file it in. Then he sends it to me and I finish it to match the rest of the rifle and ship it back.

From my experience with the 2 Bore Muzzleloader, I know that my limit with that rifle was 500gr FFg, it weighs 24 pounds and was a smoothbore, so it had less recoil than this one will, since this one is rifled and will weigh about 22 pounds(customer chose the target weight), I think it's going to be real close to that when I am done. So 500gr maybe more than I can handle in this rifle, but I've already discussed that with my customer and he is already aware of the fact that what is possible with this cartridge and rifle is not necessarily prudent. Even in reduced loads this has a lot of potential to injure the shooter, and I can speak from experience that shooting the 2 Bore Muzzleloader is not something you want to do very much of or very often. At least not if you like your back the way it is, it doesn't spin me around the way Sir Samuel baker described "Baby" but it does try to bend you and twist you at the waist all at the same time, and after 3 or 4 shots I can definitely feel it in my lower back. So I can surmise that this rifle will be worse since it will generate more recoil.

Bigdoggy, the barrel is 28" and the final weight is supposed to be 22 pounds(customer requested weight). I think it is going to be just a little over 22 pounds finished weight. Right now it weighs 20 pounds and a couple ounces, but I haven't added any weight to the buttstock yet to balance the rifle.

A double rifle 2 Bore actually wouldn't be a bad deal, it would add a whole barrels worth of extra weight, and then by the time you added weight to the butt to balance that it would probably weight in the high 20's maybe even 30 pounds. Since they are shootable at 24 pounds, adding 4-6 pounds would make it decent to shoot, horrible to carry, but hey you have to trade off somewhere.

As for doubling, on outside hammer locks that really isn't a problem, it just means building a locks with inertia pin interrupters on the tumblers.

Colin, would you have any interest in building the little brother to the above- a 4 gauge double shotgun smoothbore?

Hopefully later this weekend I will have an update posted, I got side tracked this week for a few days. Our clothes drier died last week and I spent last Saturday shopping(I hate shopping for anything) for a new set with my wife. The closest real shopping for us is an hours drive since we live in the sticks, so we had to go to Lincoln, then they didn't have the set my wife wanted in stock. Which was alright because she decided she wanted a stackable set of front loaders and that meant having to remodel the laundry room, which took me a couple days to gut it and put it back together. Then Wednesday afternoon I had to go back to Lincoln to pick-up the set and then get them put in the new space in the laundry room. So a large portion of my week has been spent doing things to keep the wife happy....as most married men know if the Wife isn't happy nobody in the house is going to be happy. But I have the engraving mostly done and the finish on the stock is starting to look really nice, so I should have some pictures later this weekend.

I just noticed the "Big Bore" forum is for bore diameters from 0.375 up to 1.008.

You guys need your own forum Smiler

Would a range of 1.009 to 3.008 inch be adequate ?

Should we start a poll?

Most of the stuff I do is a tedious, slow, boring process that doesn't make for a very exciting video. Watching lathe's turn, and mills run, for hours on end gets boring fast. Watching me file or sand or polish is also right up there with watching grass grow. Watching a big cloud of smoke come from a quench barrel is almost interesting for a couple seconds....that's why I don't make very many video's, and the fact that I don't have a camera grew to shift around and follow along with what I am doing(stationary filming doesn't work very well when you change positions every couple seconds).

I was thinking about if you would talk about the process and progress with short clips of you doing the work. Would also be good to see it fired at the end.
