Good point on the explanatory notes (now added) with the video of Brent Ebling's cow elephant charge stopping.
A 500-grain/.500-caliber FN solid from a .500 MDM worked wonders.
I did especially like seeing the dust kicked up beyond the elephant on the final insurance shot at base of skull. tu2

Biebs rifle is a beauty. How much is the dry weight?
The only thing I would do different on it is to put the front sling base on the very tip of the forearm,
the Brockman style hanger is the niftiest.

http://www.brockmansrifles.com/direct_sales.asp

It would probably bridge the short ebony tip.
The whole of it is anchored with 3 short, flathead wood screws that can be buried under the bedding of the forearm.

You need to sell the blaser. A high discount sale would be perfect. I can live with a right hand palm swell.

No more elephant hunting - you have your buff rifle. The blaser needs to go !!!!!

Plus your have already shot the blaser once or twice.

You need a 12 step program

First step - you were powerless against guns -especially big bores.

Step two - sell you blaser at a fire sale price to me.

Step 3-12 - go back to your gun hoarding ways Cool

Wanting Backup and Needing Backup is two different animals...........

The 500 made it back from Brian this afternoon, and you won't be needing any backup with this..................

With Scope mounted............

110% good to go, feed and function perfect.......... Will be shooting first thing in the morning to see how it does with live ammo, give it a workout, and sight the scope in...... Scope seems to be a tiny bit short on eye relief, we will find out for sure tomorrow............

OK, this rifle is shooting, and shooting better than I can shoot, not a surprise there..............

Sighted in PERFECT with the 450 #13 HP Raptor 98/IMR 8208 for a dead steady 2450 fps on average, this is a BUFFALO HAMMER, because I have seen it slam buffalo hard............

I am VERY PLEASED WITH THIS...........

However, I am not just elated with the POI of the 500 #13 Solid with 95/IMR 8208 2330 fps........ Its good, and its workable no doubt about it, and I have worked with worse. But it is slightly less than perfect, or I am less than perfect. This is 5 rounds, 50 yards, I fully expected it to be about 1 inch lower than the 450 #13 Raptor, but there are two of these 5 that are leaning to the right a bit! Now, make no mistake, that could be me, but shooting some other groups with the 500 it seems to be just slightly right....... (Let me correct something... I am quite sure those two rounds far right must be ME).................

I am a bit fussy with things. However, should we mess with this?

We can do a couple of things, little reluctant to move up velocity with the 500, at 95/IMR 8208 we are at 60000 to 61000 PSI, Safe..... Bumping up would move that to 63000 +...... While I consider max 65000 PSI, I like to be around 60000 for max safe to cover variables that can change Pressures..... I can lower the velocity of the 450 Raptor and bring it closer to the 500...... Or this would normally do so.......

I could play with two other solids, run slightly more velocity, 450 and 475 #13s and this might pull solid/Raptor closer, however both those solids have a different length, and might not work at all? Might try this, just to see.............

What do you guys think, and even more important, what do you think Biebs?????

Michael

Yep, I understand..... However, I still would like you to have some solids with on this trip... Reason, well, several actually, if you SHOOT BAD, then you might be busting brush, I don't know anywhere in Africa that there is NO BRUSH. Raptor HPs do not like brush at all. These #13 Solids are the best brush busters I have ever seen, the only thing that comes close to equal, and maybe equal with the new nose profile is the new North Forks.

I just tried some of the 450s and 475s..... The 450s were too low, center, but too low for POI. The 475s were more center, and more in line with the 450 Raptors, so I am going to monkey around with the 475 a few rounds and see what happens......

So far I have put 50 rounds through the gun this morning, and with the exception of one mishap, where I did not slap the bolt all the way to the rear, there has been no issues. I have taken it several times now, filled the mag, drop one in the chamber, run 4 rounds hard, zero problems..... Looking good so far...... I am trying to break it for you......

Actually, if you discount those two rounds right with the 500 Solid to ME, the other 3 are not too bad, and I doubt you would see or notice any difference in POI at 50 yards from any field position or sticks......

At 25 yards there basically is no difference.......

Just want to see if I can tighten that up a bit............

Damn Damn Damn.......... Just when I thought I had it tweaked out to near perfection........

Biebs, We Have a Little Problem.............

Man, I almost have the two bullets, 450 Raptor/500 #13 Solid same POI at 50, I took the 500 up to 96/IMR 8208 for an excellent 2360 fps and took the 450 Raptor down to 97/IMR 8208 for 2439 fps... Both shooting one hole....... UNTIL things started going off one way or the other..........

???????????

Scope is moving! It actually has twisted to the right, and moved back some as well..... Hard to hold POI with this going on.......

This will end shooting today............

I normally put 28 foot inches or what ever they call that, which is a bit more than what is recommended, I believe 24.... 28 on the 500 MDM holds the lighter 1 inch scopes, but this 30mm is a tad heavier, so 28 is not going to hold it...... Not alone anyway......

I had this issue once with one of mine, but I stippled the hell out of the inside of the rings, which I am sure does the finish on the scope no good... So I won't do that... Sam told me once he used some pine resin to solve that on a rifle, so I am going to pine resin this bitch and tighten down to 30 and see what happens!!!!!!!

Biebs, I am keeping it until Monday now to make sure I can sort this out for you....... I don't like shipping over the weekend anyway, not something like this.......... Sorry....... But the up side is, I am 90% sure I got the POI sorted out the way I want it........

Oh No Michael! You mean you didn't clean it with different brushes each stroke??????? Crap, Now it's ruined........The duct tape will help a lot but if you didn't use different brushes for each stroke, the rifling will be screwed up and Biebs won't be able to trust it. You might as well send it to me and I'll save Jon the heartache.

Doc M,
The two right leaning shots: You flinched!

Use Gorilla Tape on Biebs' scope, only the best for him.

Seriously: I use RTV Silicone Adhesive (clear or black) inside my rings.
You can always un-do it with fingernail-scraping&picking, toothbrush & Gun Scrubber spray, etc.
I would do that for sure with an obese scope like Biebs has on such a kicker.
Seals out lubricants and water from between scope and rings, glues the scope in place,
and is invisible if done right.
Much better than any sort of "Rosin" but not as much fun as Gorilla Tape for scope mounting. Smiler
