NEWS FLASH

HEH.....

Biebs..... Good news... I will have your rifle next week. Your stock has gone to checkering a week or more ago. Sent Wes a note to find out when stock was going to be ready? In the meantime, I probably have a stock, I can do some work with it, however cannot give it a final checkup until it is in your stock..........

Tanks...... Barrel is in your 500 MDM and coming along rather well too..........

Finally got Brents video loaded on the B&M site, the one he has to stop the charging cow elephant with his 500 MDM, on the 500 MDM Page, direct link below.... Scroll down a bit until you see it......

Tanks.... Yes, that is what stopping is about, no doubt about it. That gun of Brent's was my gun, a 19 inch version I did. Man I liked that gun, it was, might still be, my favorite 500 MDM.... That gun is below....

Tanks........... Personally I use only Leupold QRW Rings and bases, and have for many many years without any issues or problems ever...

I hear the Talley is very good, made right here not far from me. However, I have so much invested in QRWs that it just does not compute
to convert, and especially since I have never had a problem with the QRWs....... I am sure some of the other guys can pipe up about the
talleys....

Some conventional light loads this morning in the 500 MDM.... Low pressure stuff..... couple of really good loads

300 Hornady 80/RL 7 2493 fps 38300 PSI

385 Remington 83/H-322 2063 fps at 28600 PSI

500 Hornady 92/RL 15 2041 fps at 37000 PSI

500 Hornady 86/IMR 8208 2192 fps at 50300 PSI

Good practice or reduced load shooting..... Good for various non dangerous critters as well.......

My main concern was quick release vs permanent mount. Seeing that you are not having an issue at all then I will ask Brian to get the Talley bases for the .416. I have two other guns with Talley bases and Swaro Z6is on them. Needless to say I'd want to switch scopes around.

Good news about the reduced loads. Am I to assume, looking at the regular load data you have, that similar amounts of H4198 would be a good starting point for testing a reduced load?

I had stocked up on H-4198, but haven't run across any RL-7.

Go with the leupold QRW i had issues with the talley mounts coming loose and i actually shreared the screws.I have a 50 B&M and have broken scopes, stocks and mounts. These guns have a high recoil impulse and the test all components. I followed Michaels advise and bought a Nikon 1-4x and its held up well

Rick... I have Biebs under a "Seriously Binding Contract"...... All sorts of bad things happen to him if
he sells the rifle, and in this contract, he has to sell it back to me at HALF price... HEH HEH.......

Nah, I'm kidding too.... HEH..........

Tanks......

I did a couple of more loads too, one of them was H-4198 at 2220 fps and 25000 PSI, I had planned to go up a bit to 85 grs.... For those light bullets you can use H-4198 easy for those light loads...
And with the 500 Hornady you can use the IMR 8208 with great effect....

Chris.... You are the only person I know that can bust more rifles, stocks, scopes, rings and bases that I can!!!!!!!! :hillbilly:

How are stocks holding up now????

If you are talking your trip end of June or so, this is what I was pushing for, I see no reason it won't happen, if you need serial numbers or anything let me know... I am supposed to have the rifle this week. Stock? Have not got an answer from
Wes yet, I know it was sent for checkering. In the meantime, I will put it in one of my stocks and start the process, if for whatever reason your stock does not make it, I will send the rifle in my stock for you to use. When everything is said and done then we will trade stocks back or something. But I think your stock will be ready so I doubt it comes to that...... It is my intention that you will be hunting with this rifle this coming trip......

Loads, I will take care of getting scope on and sorted out, then will send loads with the rifle for you to shoot, and until you are up and running I will take care of your ammo for you.....

I can't think of any reason that there should be a problem.... I plan on having that sorted out. Currently I have both rifles here on our trip sorted out and shooting, only a matter of a tiny bit of fine tuning on Mark Davids 475 B&M SS, and load our ammo and we are set. I sent in for RSA Permits last week, so I should have them.. I always stay a few days before and after in RSA of course, so need that permit, and have my Zim permits filled out and ready.... So we are pretty much set, leaves me to work on your rifle as priority....

Wow, that will make it 7 weeks from the time Biebs posted on this thread that he was going ahead with the 500 MDM.

Based on that kind of schedule mine should definitely be waiting for you when you get back from Zim with weeks to spare. dancing

I think you will! Yep, Biebs this is you! I promise the rifle looks better than the photos... I don't have any
fancy photo equipment, little sony digital....... and it is really hard to capture the wood.........

I am going to reset it in the stock tomorrow morning... We do seem to have a retaining issue, sometimes yes, sometimes no, so it is real
close. It comes as no surprise, since Brian did not have the rifle prior to the stock, so I am going to fiddle with it some tomorrow morning, sight in the irons, as best I can, and if it don't retain properly it will be going back to Brian Monday to sort out. This is not much of an issue, soon as Brian gets it, he will sort it out in a couple of hours, and it will be on the way back to me the next day. I just had to do this with my 500 B&M.... And, one of the very reasons I wanted my hands on it before you.... I don't want you to get it and have any problems or issues...........

But, should you choose not to want to mess with it, no worries at all, I will keep it! HEH HEH....... I don't know, maybe I should just tell you its a POS and I need to keep it with me... HEH..................

JD called today, mostly chit chat.... But he wanted to let me know how impressed he was with the video of Brent busting that elephant, or more properly, STOPPING that elephant charge with his 500 MDM...... JD said that I needed to add on the website for the more inexperienced folks, about exactly what had taken place in the video, and that was the brain was totally missed by a fair margin, not uncommon at all in that situation. But, the 500 MDM put that elephant in the DIRT regardless of missed brain... and that is exactly the point of a Dangerous Game Rifle, its cartridge & Caliber, and of course the choice of the right bullet. There is no doubt, the 500 MDM is a very fine DG Cartridge, and I think housed in the very finest bolt gun ever, Winchester M70....... It is for sure a "Stopper"....... JD was also impressed with the bullet penetration, and made mention of that last round kicking up dust on the other side of the elephant... HEH.... I agreed that I had not thought to explain that for folks that might not know, I know all of us already know this, so take things for granted sometimes..........

Biebs rifle is just excellent, I am very very pleased with the way it came out, this stock is just incredible, lovely black streaks in this english, its far better than mine, and I am pissed now! Hmmmmm, Maybe I will just trade Beibs my stock, and keep this one???? Hmmmmmm................

That is one eye-popping buffalo hammer !

Outstanding !

Beautiful piece of wood and nicely finished too.
Well done to Wes and the crew at A.I.

I especially like what looks to be a new treatment to the ebony fore-end tip that looks shorter.

Beautiful piece !

Is it too early to put dibs on it IF it comes up for sale possibly some time down the track ? Cool

Paul..... Yes, maybe not so new, maybe since your rifle I suppose, but the "Short Ebony" is and has been B&M Standard for a while, started on the regular B&Ms, 9.3 thru 50, then I carried it over to the MDMs as well... I like it personally......

It is a fine piece of work........

It is going to shoot as well.... This morning, easiest iron sight in I have done in a LONG time, of course I can't half see so that might be part of the issue much of the time, but this morning everything sorted out really easy, couple of adjustments and it shoots as good as I can possibly do with iron sights.......... And not only that, but with the loads I want Biebs to use on the buff hunt......

450 #13 HP Raptor--98/IMR 8208 2451 fps

500 #13 Solid--95/IMR 8208 2337 fps.....

First rounds fired...... And as you see after two rounds it was pretty much spot on the money at 25 yards.......

Then 3 rounds of the 450 #13 Raptors...........

This just might be magic......... It leaves Monday for final Tune Up by Brian next week. I get it back, put the scope on and get it ready for Biebs... I can't see it being more than another 2 weeks MAX... Much of that being transit, before being in Biebs little grubby hands.............
