I am asking Mr. Jamison (of Jamison International LLC brass fame) if he would consider making a 3.000" long .416 Rigby Basic necked down to .510 caliber. I am begging him to do so and call it the .500 Jamison. Fingers crossed.

Well, whatever Jamison does next, one thing is certain: he won't be writing about it in Shooting Times.

Even though I knew the difference in the "Jamison's", I think it would be too much of a confusing name. How about the .510 Rigby??? "They who would give up an essential Liberty for Temporary Security, deserves neither Liberty or Security." ---Benjamin Franklin "SIC SEMPER TYRANNUS"

I didn't know that! I'm glad that his QUALITY has "supposedly" gotton better over Bell's original brass. The .505 Gibbs Bell case that I have in my collection is a POS as far as uniformity. Rich, Call it whatever you like. You have not been around here very long. We have been mulling it over for the last five years here. Mingbogo was hot on it before he disappeared. I don't care much what it is called, or who wants to take credit for it. I would just like to see it done. Just having some straight cylindrical .416 Rigby basic to make many things out of would be nice. 3" long would allow the .500 Mbogo with caliber length neck. Neck the cylinder down and it might lengthen to 3.040". Trim to whatever.

RIP, maybe not, but this is not the first place/forum to consider the issue. My first encounter with the 500/416 concept was up at Buhmiller's shop when I picked up a 450 Buhmiller he built for me. He was still building rifles, so I think that likely predates your experience with firearms by a decade or two. John was tinkering with the idea of a 50 on the Rigby case back as far back as 1960-62, but never "got around to it" before his death. You are aware, I trust, that he actually built a 458 on the Rigby case that piqued Roy Wby's interest in the late fifties and resulted in the 460-series of cartridges. As far as my involvement, I have had 416 cylindrical sitting out in my shop for about three years now, and a dedicated Remington Model of 1934 complete action and Timney trigger waiting for a long list of other projects to be completed. This URL is probably unsurpassed as far as an idea exchange forum, but very few totally new things come from it, like anywhere else; the 470Mbogo excluded. It's like my 22-378 Improved,it was done earlier, mine was just the first one in a couple decades and utilized newer powders and 80gr JLK bullets. I am getting my reamers ordered, and will Email you asap so you can break the news to the world. regards, Rich

Mike, The shadow knows. Jens, I thought Buhmiller did his .45's and .50's on the .378 Wby case before Roy did the .460. Rigby brass was very scarce back in the late 50's. I do recall that Buhmiller did a .50 on the .375 H&H case by using a rebated bullet that sat on top of the case with 50 cal and the rebated bullet base was in the neck, like a giant .22 rimfire bullet. Doubles? One .470 NE is enough for me. Only truly accurate rifles are interesting. Doubles are specialist tools for close range stopping, even if mine will put 4 shots into less than an inch at 50 yards, and I like it that way. No parallel to infinity with two groups side by side for me and my Merkel. Bolt action is where it is at. Rich, Nice that you met Uncle John before he passed on. He was "something" or "someone" to be sure. Please don't be shy about breaking news to the world when it happens. I have a 10" twist stainless McGowen .510 barrel (my third) on the way.
