Thank you Gentlemen...glad you are enjoying the pics. Two more to add....this has been a fantastic year for Ocellated turkeys.

@LDK....as you walk the jungle you come across ancient Mayan ruins....it is kind of spooky. I will dig some pics out tonight....these structures are in the middle of nowhere.

@Norton....the Mayan guides are placed in high esteemed by Non-Mayan Mexican outfitters because of their familiarity with the bird habits. Some of these guides were once poachers....who now realize that they can feed their families a lot better by letting the foreigners hunt the Ocellated turkeys. So as a result they protect the birds year round until it is time for Gringos to show up Big Grin

Yes, I've flown over those ruins. Way back when, I knew some men that used to go down there and dig for weeks. Those were the days. I could spend years doing that for the historical record and to complete the direct link of the Mayans to our Mississipian's.

Are calls and decoys being used? Seems to be the latest success story. Again, nice pics and I look forward to the ruins photo's...just don't wake any of those ancient guys up..lol

Collector, those are wonderful specimen and photos.
What kind of brocket deer are these? The one I shot earlier this month in Belize was much redder in color, perhaps from more of a rain-forest location. Is the deer on the right side in the peccary picture a tropical whitetail?
Is the outfitter able to provide reasonable assurance against "interference" by drug cartels?

Hooks...Smiler

@LDK
Found two pics....man made objects in the middle of absolutely NOWHERE.

@SGraves155
The ones in Yucatan are Mazama pandora and are hunted by permit...I am not sure if they are the same sub-species as the ones found in Belize. Here is another pic from Southern Yucatan...this may be closer in sub-species status to the one from Belize.

As far as security situation goes, the bordering Mexican states to USA (and Mexico City) are the places one needs to avoid. Yucatan is a whole universe in its own and does not have the problems that bordering states have. You get picked up at the airport by the outfitter and they do not let you out of their sight until you depart from the airport.

Having said that now if you want to entertain yourself and be on your own then I would advise against it. Many people go to Mexico for mixed reasons as there are lots of attractions (distractions) available...some are legit such as sight seeing....many are illegit such as buying over the counter Viagra from local pharmacy or other sleeping aids....or cock fights....or staged knife fights....donkey shows.....night clubs....local females for hire....and I can go on and on....if you stay away from on-your-own-extra-curricular activities and only focus on hunting go hunt and come back under the guidance of the outfitter you will not have any problems. If you are going to extend your trip for a couple of days after the hunt and want to stay late beyond 10pm and hang out in clubs....then good possibility that trouble will find you Big Grin

@blaser93

I usually do not need an excuse to go back to the Yucatan....but if going in a group is important to you then you can find 2 additional hunters for the group and I can personally take you there. You guys laugh, giggle, eat, sleep, hunt worry free....I will take care of all logistics until your turkey arrives at the taxidermist in the States. 3 hunters per group (4 total) will be my limit. You will need to book by July for the following spring.

P.S. Just to remind you all....this is the trophy of all trophies which sets gentlemen apart from boys Big Grin

I'm in Cancun now and then. Is this something I could spend a day or two enjoying while MSW is sitting at the Omni pool?

@MtWoodson,
If you can get to Merida or Campeche from Cancun that would be great. If not, then I am sure your pickup from Cancun can be arranged. This is a 5-day hard hunt...now if you get lucky on the first day then you can get back to the Mrs and enjoy the Margaritas by the pool in Cancun. We can take this off line, feel free to email me and we can tailor a plan for you.
