Which cartridges do you consider to have that "tight" factor. Hard to describe, but it's usually not the fastest, biggest, most popular. It's like that kid from high school that didn't really hang out with the popular kids but there was something mysterious and cool about him.

My list of cool cartridges I own or would like to own.

250 Savage
257 Roberts
6.5x55
7x57
338 Federal
358 Win
350 Rem Mag
35 Whelen
9.3x62

    Aren't they all cool?

.22 LR. Seriously, nothing cooler than a handful of .22 LR's, a couple tin cans or walk in the field.

.257 Roberts. Because my name is Robert. And it's a superb cartridge on deer!

.300 H&H. The Grand-Daddy 30-mag. Long, streamlined, just gorgeous looking round. Even after 85 years it's still every bit as deadly and accurate as the day it was introduced.

.375 H&H. Because I just loved showing up to deer camp with that one...

    Regards,

    Robert

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
    1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
    2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
    3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
    4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
    5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
    6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
    7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
    8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
    9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
    10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
    11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
    12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
    13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I kinda like my 8x54, my 8x60, and my 8x68S.

    I like the 9,3x57, 9,3x62, and 9,3x64.

I like the .375 Win, the .375 H&H and even the .376 Steyr.

Of course, I love my .338-06 and have even grown to like the .35 Whelen.

    I'd like another 9x57.

I think the 25-20 30-40 Krag and the 9.3x74R are really neat cartridges. I also think a double rifle built to scale for either the 25-20 or 30-40 would be a fun gun to hunt with.

I think the 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer is cool. Especially when it is in the Model 1903 MS carbine with the set triggers. Also always had a soft spot for the 30-40 Krag in the Springfield.

Thankfully, I've got one of each so I can scratch that itch whenever it hits.

Used to have a William Evans double in 450/400 3 1/4 Nitro Express. That was way cool. It had hammers and was an underlever. Harken back to the days of WDM. Bell and Roosevelt. Sadly, in a fit of extreme stupidity I sold it to a guy that offered me a handful of green paper. I doubt I'll ever own another.

I always thought a nice trim double in 30-40 Krag would be sweet. It could be built light and if regulated for 220 gr roundnose bullets it would be a great heavy cover deer and elk gun. Someday. Maybe someday.

"Cool Factor" is highly subjective, what is top on the cool chart for me is vanilla pudding to the rest of you. Some cartridges have special meaning and feelings for me because of thoughts or memories associated with them some go back to my childhood and stories I heard from family friends or relatives, some from things I read.
This is my list and I'm sure everyone else with think some of my list are "not cool".

    Cool cartridges that I have:
    22/250
    257 Roberts (xtra cool)
    6.5x55
    30/06 (I think its cool)
    30/30
    30/40 Krag (xtra cool)
    9.3x62 (ya it's cool)
    375 H&H Mag
    45 Colt

    Cool cartridges I need:
    22 Hornet
