I like flat trajectory. Cartridges offering the
longest dead point of aim, while not sacrificing
too much barrel life (-1000 rounds unacceptable)
are the coolest to me. Some examples:

Tactical 20, .204 Ruger, Practical 20 (started
life long ago as .204/.223).

.22-250
.243
.25-06
7mm WSM

There are many others, but these are some in
which I have experience.

.22 LR My fav
.223
.270 Win
30-06
.270 WSM
7-08 Rem

I would like a .280 AI but just for the hell of it.....I have what it will do covered.

I have tried about everything commonly available.
I kind of like oddballs and unique rifles and cartridges just to learn something new or even something old and obsolete.

Anyone up for shooting a 6.5 Arisaka in a Type I rifle. It has a modified Carcano action with a Mauser type double stack magazine. The rifling is segmental like a Lee-Metford.

Well now, cool Cool or not Confused the old 303 Brtish has likly despatched countless hundreds of thousands if not millions of game around the world and as such deserves a mention. No longer popular it will still do the job on most animals it's pointed at. The much quoted Bell used it to knock off a few elephants.
If memory serves Bell liked his 303 rifle but mainly due to it's 10 shot magazine.
There are many better cartridges but the 303 British did what was needed

I have a pretty short list:

1. 22 lr - With ammo prices where they are this is about the only thing I can shoot on a regular basis and that's cool.

2. 7.62x54R -Great to handload for and shoot out of my $20.00 M-N. Cool!

3. 350 Rem Mag- Love it! Saw one for sale,673 Guide Gun, and bought it on the spot. Don't know why, I have others that will do the same thing but the overall look is waaayy cool.

4. 376 Steyr- As Mike Dettorre says, the 308 of the big bores. Accurate, smooth, and in the factory Pro-hunter good to go for anything in North America and most likely the world. The Rodney Dangerfield of the big bores. So uncool it's cool.

Sorry, almost forgot:

5. 30-40 Krag - My father gave it to me and the slickest, coolest action ever, very accurate. I'm a realtor and I gave it to a young couple that had just lost their home to foreclosure. The husband had expressed interest in hunting but didn't have any money for a rifle. I gave it to his wife to put under the tree for Christmas two years ago. How cool is that?!!

318 Westley Richards in a Westley built Mauser. It sounds and even smells like an African safari. As much as I like Winchester, nothing has the Africa charm like an old school British rifle with the dark stocks in their makers trunk.

45-90 or 45-110 Shiloh Sharps to shoot and a matching old Sharps.

45-70 in Winchester 1886.

In shotguns:

28 gauge (the coolest of shotgun gauges)
410 bore

Cool shotguns need to have two barrels, one above the other, and only one trigger.

But I have to admit that the coolest shotgun I've ever seen was a Winchester Model 21 (SXS double) in 16 gauge. It had been redone, with a colored case-hardened receiver and flawless wood. I don't remember whether it had one trigger or two.
