".260 Remington" :- Hateful little cartridge. As sure a harbinger of middle age as cardigans and an appreciation of the music of Dire Straits. Not enough gun for x, too much gun for y; all in all the George Michael circa 2002 of the cartridge world.

The 260 Rem and any of the WSM's, WSSM's, UltraMags, Lazzeroni ad infinitum. Even the rocks don't last forever.

No he's right about the 30-30, it's only fit for invalids and retired ballet dancers. Nah, 30.30 is cool, it doesn't belong in this thread.

Not enough grunt on big game from what I've been told. A friend used it to shoot 4 brown bears, a moose and pigs. It did fine on the pigs but didn't have as much thump as he thought it would on the bear and moose. He used the 350 grain bullet factory load.

The 45 blaser just needs a belt added for cheaper brass. Cut back win mag brass and form. Like a blown out 450 Marlin without the fatter belt. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

So far I like and have used every one of those "uncool" calibers except the 375 Ruger. I also like the 350 Rem Mag, 8mm Rem Mag and 35 Remington. All the Weatherby calibers too. Oh well, guess I gotta turn in my "cool" sunglasses NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

I've never seem much reason for the 300 WBY or 300 RUM or 300 WSM. If I wanted or needed a 300, I'd take the 300 H&H or the 300 Win. If I needed more power I'd step up to the 338 Win or 375 H&H.

The use of "cool" is uncool. It was exiled to nerdsville in the late 1950s, where it was taken over and adopted by the terminally unhip.

You had to play the emotional blackmail card didn't you? Alright, in the case of your nephew and his rather splendid first deer, the .260 Remington was Chuck Norris cool, ok? Still hate the cartridge as two of my shooting buddies had custom rifles built in it and are forever droning on about how great it is.
|

The reason is that the two culprits involved have the recoil tolerance level of a 12 year old; they told the 'smith they desired a grown-up rifle for children or was that a children's rifle for grown-ups? Cheers, Number 10

# Quite right. DJM's eldest is 14 and he has a .270. That's 0.020" bigger than a .260, and the combined age of those two adds up to a darn sight more than a free bus-pass, let me tell you. ( )

You pair of plebs can feck off any time at all. The 260rem is God's own deer cartridge. If a 6.5x53/4/5/7 or whatever other crap case never existed, and you were setting out to design a 6.5 round, would you put a 6.5mm bullet on one of those odd, obsolete pieces of crap brass, and run them at 45K psi? Would you feck. You would simply stick said 6.5mm bullet on top of the most efficient and successful brass cartridge of the past 50 years - the x51mm Nato - and call it good. My 260rem has left a trail of dead deer across Ireland and England that would feed a small army. Our buddy has whacked stuff up to Wildebeast and Kudu with his. It you could shoot, you would find it good enough..... If you want to talk uncool, look at a 243win, boooorrrrrriiiinnnngggg. Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Nice, appropriately sized beasts there Brian. Not mine, but here's what a 30.06 ( What your .260 will grow into if you feed and water it right ) will do: Biggest so far on my own account: That said, you're a mate; Gerry and I will be sure to give you a call when the mice come a marauding...

Amir, I will break out the 30/06 any time I think I am likely to shoot something the weighs a quarter of a ton and up. In the mean time, the pip squeak 260 shoots 120gr bullets as flat as a 270 shoots 130's, and get's done all I need on deer weighing 30 - 200 pounds on the hoof. I don't have any "size" issues, and I am quite happy in my masculinity... Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....
