Thanks a bunch 577NE-

I was shooting a Remington 270Win.

We were supposed to be shooting the boars on a bluff at distances of 150-200 yards while they came out to forage in the open country in the evening.

But, what happened was that the direction of the wind had changed unfavorably. My guide decides to take a ride up this volcano slope and next thing you know we had smelled the stench of a dead carcass somewhere in one of the ravines upwind of us.

We get out and walk across a couple of ravines and hear an all-out frenzy of some boars trying to lay claim of a huge dead cow carcass.

I shot this boar with-in 20 yards with my rifle off-hand. It was a tough shot because once we got with-in that distance the wind suddenly changed directions again and they came out of the bush like hell-fire in the thick brush.

I only had a very tiny window to view them in a small 3' x 3' opening in the brush once they came a snorting out......

It was crazy....
I was shaking like a leaf....
But, I made the shot.....
Above right elbow inside nice and tight on the body..... HEART SHOT.... DRT

Check out my post on the RELOADING FORUM right here, where I give DETAILS of my full hunt with my son....

Thanks

Yep-

And I'm getting fat, old and slow......

It was pretty crazy that night!
It could've turned bad really fast....

This is a dryland Polynesian Boar, my guide said 130lbs and very close to 3" tusks....

He says if this boar was living in our wetland
Hawaiian forest of which we have many here, he would be a 300lb boar easily......

This BOAR was taken at Parker Ranch on the Big Island of Hawaii......

He is definitely lean and mean......

This Boar is going to look really good when I get him back from the taxidermist.....

Thanks my friend

The Parker Ranch is still about 150,000 acres. I think it used to be larger. There are also huge tracts of Fern Jungle that have ferns as big as trees--great places to chase pigs with dogs. Congratulations, that's a superb hog.

That is one very nice looking boar, and very tusky for 130 lbs. My wife is willing to do the Big Island trip just for the boar hunting, but I was curious, are you shipping back the meat?

I read your hunt report on the reloading forum. Looks like your hunt was a success all around! Again, congratulations! I didn't realize that it was your first boar ever. I can guarantee it won't be your last! You've chosen one addictive animal to hunt! Great job, and an outstanding trophy!

Hey John,

He is a beauty!!!

But you should of seen the Beast that got away!!! He was huge....

In that small window I had to shoot through in the brush it all happened in a second that fast....

I only had a millionth of a second to commit as they passed through my scope left to right....

First one passed was a sow ????, second one passed was a young boar 1 1/2" tusk????

Third one passed and all I could see was PEARL, POOOFFFF!!!!!

It was a great hunt, I will never forget all the details on this one for sure!!!!

I didn't bring home the meat from this animal since they were on a dead carcass...Bacteria!!!

But, I don't think it would be a problem to bring home the bacon to the mainland....

call Pat Fisher

PM me I would love to set you up with him for your wife's hunt!

No Problem....

Have you enjoyed the experience yourself, any details...

Thanks

while hiking the na pali coast solo at dusk i came across a big boar. if he wanted to he could have charged me, i had nowhere to go. luckily the island gods were with me and he grunted with dissatisfaction and rummaged for food. they are plentiful from what i heard from a local bowhunter i ran into there. the na pali coast is beautiful, one of the best hikes in the world and good hunting. an experience of a lifetime for the adventurous. i almost died there hiking at night but that is for another topic. good boar! makes me wanna go back when i am ready.

LB,

That is one serious looking woolly bastard, of lean mean fighting machine of a boar.

Those lean quick ones are the ones that scare me when I've got my dogs out. That SOB looks like a 100% dog killer to me.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Keep up the good work.

Nice Boar. Thanks for sharing. It's good to see Pat again!

I had the pleasure of hunting pheasants with Pat when my wife and I vacationed on Kona. We had a great time. We stayed at a B&B, so for dinner the next night we had pheasant and chucker on the grill. Hmm, Good!

Pat is a great guy and Parker Ranch on the north end of Kona is a great place to hunt.

Please say "Hi!" to Pat for me, next time you see or email him.

Aloha, nice pig, there are alot of public areas available on Big Island that you could do a very successful hunt on a budget. I'm on Maui Now but lived and hunted the Big Island several years ago, and get back there on occasion but Maui no slouch in hunting fun either. Will be moving back to Oahu (Kailua my hometown) this summer to take care of my Dad so backyard pighunts will be a thing of the past. Frowner
