don't worry 500 will be back ...they don't want him over there either!
As far as elephant hunting anyone whom has read my posts on the subject knows what my personal feelings are towards hunting them myself. Another wishes to do it knock your socks off but I'll never kill one not with a bow, 45-70, 500 NE, 458 Lott nothing. The same goes for a lion...just not my cup of tea. The thing that I question is why some of you equate not choosing to kill an ele means one couldn't possibly afford to do so? Do you base your assumptions on the fact that some posters love leverguns, others like archery gear so we can't possibly afford to hunt eles or for that matter any DG. Have you allowed your snobbish DBL Gun only personalities to override common sense. Those that have met me and know me away from AR know until a few weeks ago I was semi retired at the age of 47 an only recently began working once more from boredom more than anything else. Yet I love lever guns and am a lifetime member of SASS as well as being an avid archer with traditional gear for 35 yrs. I hunt AK each Sept., Mexico in Jan., not to mention my own farms in northern Pa.
So while you may "dare" me to take my new Win 1873 converted to 50-110, or my Lott, or my Gibbs out of the safe an kill a ele with it that isn't going to happen in this lifetime...buff, yes it may well eventually happen (that is if I'm not totally fed up with the entire African mess of land grabbing, etc. in the future)as I have my Tanz. trip with Phil verbally agreeded to and set for early August 2007, at Phil's suggestion.
Be careful of whom you "think" you have pegged simply by "internet jabber" as 500grs would write .Some may say I call a spade a spade, quite true an in 500 grs case I call him what he is ...a pain in the ass that runs off at the mouth on nothing more than assumptions! (Gosh an a lawyer none the less too) "Cats"

He was a perfect gentleman and a fun guy to be around and shoot with.
All I can say is that I would hunt/break bread with him anytime.

Cats,

Just like on Phil Lazzano's site you bring up money and snobbishness and atribute both to anyone who chooses to hunt with a double rifle. You don't know me or any of the guys you atribute either to. Hell on Phil's site you even try to come across as a PH to give your bull some phony weight!

I'm sure there are guys here who choose bolt rifles which will outrun a good double in the $'s. Guys who could afford either but choose a good plain working rifle and guys who shoot what they can afford be it a bolt or double of the grade they can swing $'s wise. How much $ a guy's got to spend is his business and not yours, no reason to feel defensive or envious.

The significant difference is that they actually will hunt DG. Some save for years to do it, some don't have to. Some guys hunts are in the past some still the future some right now. Fewer are blessed with all three.

You, on the other hand, have proclaimed your semi retirement at 47 yet you sit on your ass declaring that a guy who has done it and is doing it is full of it!

As I said on Phil's site, a man's choice of rifles for DG is his own. You can disagree with it, you can believe you choice is better, but until you get off your ass and actually use it your comments can't rise to the level of arguement. They stay at conjecture or even fantasy. The same applies to your wind about using a bow.

I'm not a long time member here but you talk about "we" won't miss or welcome Dan back. WTF! You've been around about a month, slightly more time has passes since Winwood was purged. You've got 250 something posts, something like 8.5 a day, but that sure doesn't make you any spokesman for me or,my bet, most here.

Carmelo,

What laughs are on "Danny Boy"? He is on his way elephant hunting. The laughs are on you and your crowd who are sitting on your ass, green with envy.

You guys need to stop playing with your....keyboards and go hunt some DG. Then come back and make an arguement based on experience and not conjecture or fantasy.

JPK

N E 450 No2, I think you have touched on a valid point, most of us here have more in agreement than points of disagreement. It just gets noticed quicker if is a disagreement. I don't know any of these gents, but I doubt that in person, they are the same as the preceptions of them on line.

Ya know, Nitrox, this thread and others with kitten wynwood and carmello working together as the main attractions brings to mind an old Limerick about a man and a woman, both of which were practicioners of what we will call "the alternate lifestyle". Goes something like:

Said one to the other

we should be sister and brother

and off they went to the room

but they fretted all night

about who had the right

to do what

and with which

and to whom.

Not exactly iambic pentameter but that one was for you, Dan and have a great trip. Envy is rampant on this end so come back and tell it all with pics so that we can live through it, too. Cheers.

Carmelo,

What a guy looks like is irrelavent to everyone but his wife. And it certainly doesn't add or detract from the quality of his arguements or his experience with DG.

When your arguements fail on their merit resort to personal attacks; how petty.

Thankfully not all of are as...uh...pretty as you!

Cats,

Missed your post or I would have packaged my response with my prior one to Carmelo since you all seem to fit together so well.

Glad you enjoyed your golf cart. I'm sure with your experiences you could be of great value to the golf cart board. In the meantime you missed that oportunity to be of value to the African Hunting board, though the African conjecture and fantasy board might need your help.

Argue all you want about how you feel your inteligence is being impuned by those who believe your weapon choice is poor, even foolish. You are argueing against those members and more than 100 years of history.

This is quite an uphill battle and the first step in that battle is to get off your ass and go hunt DG with the weapon of your choice. Then come back and I will at least listen to your comments since by your own actions you will have taken them from conjecture in the realm of fantasy to arguements based on experience!
