Isn't weatherbys cases a belted version of .416 Rigby? I mentioned the .505 Gibbs

Husky, The .378, .416 and .460 Weatherby cartridges are based on a belted 416 Rigby case. The 300, 340 and 375 Weatherby cartridges are based on an improved 375 H&H case. LD

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The .408 Cheyenne Tactical developers have stated in print that the .375 Lapua (9.5x69mm Tornado) is "underbore." The .375 Lapua will have a slightly larger case capacity than the 9.3x70mm Expert Magnum, so I guess that 0.2 mm difference in bullet diameter makes a whopping big difference. Thank you Herr Dart for the historical information. Harald Wolf has some info on it in a several page article with probably the same line drawing (though quality of graphics reproduction is poor) buried somewhere at the Hatari site, once upon a time ... He even mentions Uncle Hermann. Just taking a break from my chart work too. I do the A's and P's as I see the patients and go back and fill in the S's and the O's at the end of the day, and finish the bureaucratic BS paperwork on into the night sometimes. As you know, the crap is not done until the paperwork is finished.

Yep, that is the method . It was interesting noting that back in the 1920's DWM necked 404 Jeffrey brass down to 7.62mm, 8mm and 9.3mm. As ALF says, not a damn thing new since 1930 in case design. lawndart

Maybe take some Hornady H&H basic brass and neck it down to 9.3. Not very elegant, but easy, cheap and effective. 9.3 Magnum options: Full length H&H brass necked down (basically a 9.3 Weatherby). Shortened 404 brass necked up or down (basically a 9.3 Dakota). Full length 404 brass blown out and necked down (the 9,3 x 70 Expert Magnum). .338 Lapua Magnum brass necked up to 9.3 (the 9.3 RIP/SNORT/HA/HO!). lawndart

Could be good for plinking... I am working on the 9,3/BOFORS 40mm. It's a quite interesting wildcat. I use the L/70 case (the 70 calibers case or as knewn as the Bofors 40/48). Loaded with 2,1 kg of IMR 4350 (a hell lot of grains) the 300 grains Stewart High Performer has a V50 of 8325fps. It's impossile to measure the velocity closer to the barell because the Chronograph don't survive the blast. Now, its time for another glass of Klipdrift... Have a nice evening blokes H

Ya know, The easiest way to duplicate the 9,3 x 70 Expert Magnum for now might be to just neck up the 338 RUM case. An AR friend is working on getting some basic 404 brass without a headstamp made up. Until that happy day, the RUM brass is pretty cheap. 40 years from now, the 338 RUM and 9,3 x 70 Expert Magnum will be equally rare. Could one of our European posters give Reimar Johannsen a call and see if they have any 9,3 x 70 brass in stock? I will likely shit my pants when I hear the price, but anyone who has been married already knows what it feels like to spend big money on frivolous things. Twenty cases would be enough to see the project through. Also, while I am mooching favors, could someone see if any dealer that carries loaded 9,3 x 66 Sako ammunition has a license to export the ammunition to the US? As I approach my 50th birthday next summer, my Silesian/East Prussian ancestry and genetics are blossoming inside of me. Suddenly I am obsessed with the 9,3 bore size, and I am also filled with a desire to conquer Europe. I have no desire to oppress Gypsies, Jews or Homosexuals, but a socialist swinging from every lampost from Gibraltor to Moscow (on a swingset swing, of course ); well, wouldn't that be nice? lawndart

Sorry RIP, I had just finished sniffing glue when the RUM brass idea flitted into my head. I'm ok now.
That is not so bad. Do they have any reloading dies for sale?

Bro'Dart, I see the 9.3x70 Expert Magnum as a worthy goal. I want one too, but need it like a hole in the head. Good luck with the project, and may you become the 9.3 mm prophet of North America, or the poster boy for Gunaholics Anonymous.

Ah, but Finland is a republic! In Sweden, we still have King Carl XVI Gustaf on the throne and all republicans here are socialists of one kind or the other (no matter what they call themselvews). His Majesty is a very skilled and determined hunter, and Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine hunts as well. I think you Finns should have been better off if you were still under the Swedish Crown! Martin We had the King and Queen of Sweden visiting the Barossa last week. There was a VIP reception for them, unfortunately I was not invited ( ) as a hunting discussion would have been nice. They did try some of our nice wines though including some made by a dual-Swedish/Australian winemaker.

If Sweden wouldn´t have made a mess out of things we would probably still be a part of Sweden which wouldn´t be so bad. Bad soldiering on your part. How the silly Norwegians ever broke loose is beyond me (yes we have jokes about Norwegians in Finland too)! I wouldn´t mind hunting Madelaine...and I have just the caliber for that hunt!

Nope: "Princess Madeleine is the youngest child of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty Queen Silvia." So, lawndart, I guess you're out of luck! Lawndart: The ship you´re thinking about was the "Wasa" which rolled over on her "christening" (what do you call that in English again?). The pride of the Swedish fleet After losing us to the Russians it´s been pretty much downhill for them. They also gave away their most modern fort outside of Helsinki without firing a shot! That one is Sveaborg. Then they had a king lost in the fog during a charge and he got nailed by enemy fire...and Carolus XII whas shot (allagedly with a coat button out of a musket) during a seige in Norway. One of their more effective strategies was using Finns on horseback, the so called "Hakkapeliittas" (from their war cry "hakkaa päälle" meaning "beat them down"). Quite a few Swedes did fight as volunteers during our Winter war which shows that some of them still have the right stuff -we can pobably count Husky, Marterius and CC as good guys. And Norwegians did a hell of a job opposing the Nazi invasion so they have balls! But we almost kicked our border all the way to the Ural Mountains -sadly the Soviets kicked us back. Can´t win em all. Madelaine´s sister Victoria, who oneday will be queen, isn´t that bad either but my wife won´t allow me a second wife so I won´t be King of Sweden anytime soon...

A rough and abbreviated translation from an interview with His Majesty the King: The Royal children have been out with the King on his hunts since they were small. Prince Carl Philp was always interested, but for the girls other things took over for a period. Princess Madeleine has now a hunting license for both small game and big game and together with the King she hunts moose, roe and grouse. She has so far not attended the large formal hunts, since she is studying full-time at Stockholm University. His Majesty the King started to hunt in his teens, inspired by his grandmother who shot her last deer 80 years old. Hunting is one of His Majesty's greatest interests and he hunts as often as he can. From august to the mid February he hunts almost every weekend. Crown princess Victoria has so far no hunting licence but she is interested and perhaps will she start hunting as well. I think both princesses would look very nice in tweed or loden and with one of their father's double rifles in 9.3x74 (heck, one must be on topic here ) ----------------------- A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition. - R. August Cronstedt, who was commanding Sveaborg when he left it to the Russians, is still in our time of political correctness remembered as a traitor (provided there are still enough history lessons in the schools for anyone to learn about him).
I will do my best to hounor that! I can only bask in reflected glory , but my old regiment rode against the Russians side by side with the Hakkapeliittas once upon a time and more recently the regiment had some rather tough guys working alongside US troops in Afghanistan securing transport routes for U.N. or something like that - an "officers only detatchment" and rather hush-hush so no details are known to us mere mortals beyond what the media said. There were in Congo for the U.N. recently as well - I better say this to make it relevant to the African forum! ----------------------- A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition. - R. If we showed up with 9,3x66 Sakos, the Crown Princess Victoria would think us sensible. If we showed up with 9,3 x 70 Expert Magnum, the King would applaud our sense of history and Princess Madeline would laugh at us old farts for trying to prove our virility with our choice of cartridge. Bottom Line: Show up with a couple boxes of North Fork Bullets and we can go hunting with the King . It is good to be King. lawndart

Ah, the glorious past, here is our king Carl IX making sure his enemy Fleming is really dead, by pulling his beard. and here the grim young finns marching against the russian invader 1808. As a boy I read the (Fältskärns berättelser)Field surgeons tales, when the Hakkapeliitta Witikka cut both ears off the jesuit with one swift move with his sword, and the jesuit fled over the moaning wounded in the field of Breitenfeld, cursing the Finns: "Malidicti maledicti fennones! Vos comburat ignis sempiternus!" Damn Finns! May the eternal fire consume you all!! He he he.. Damn, couldn´t find pictures of these Finnish Cavalrymen. Their success came from the fact that the Imperial Cavalry caracoled - that is rode in front of the enemy and fired their pistols, moved in an elaborate way and then reloaded. This seemed very stupid to their enemy who attacked fiercely seeking close contact, overthrowing them. Must have been very spectacular on the field, fine Spanish cavalrymen in shining outfits, and the short finns on their small finnish horses attacking like mad, speaking words that sound like spells. Cronstedt fought you colonist during your war of Independence as an ensign on board the British frigate Roebuck. There´s a reason for you people not to like him too, don´t you know.. Royalist in all lands, unite!!
