Hey Dave, how about "Boddington on Hunting With BUM"? We could start filming in July!

But if not, I'll settle for Boddington on Lion.

I've got the buffalo vid. I'd realy like to see one on elephant. As far as plains game goes I think they were covered very well in his Safari Experience video.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

There's a "Boddington on Elephant" for sale on the website.

I'm not sure if the Safari Experience DVD is the same one, but I thought plains game was fairly well covered in the "Africa with Craig Boddington and Ivan Carter" DVD.

Now we're talkin.

His daughter has done a fine job in helping out the tracker who accidentlly got shot on the leopard hunt..
I have bought his books, and contributed to his worthy causes,

I totally agree here and to see a man standing over a dead or dying Buffalo expelling the virtues of a torch (and not a very good one at that, and in broad daylight) a little off putting.

What about people who make money from sending people to kill? What about....? What about....? We could keep going. It does seem a little hollow and disrespectful to the animal I agree, but where's the line? Drawing lines is a sticky business. I'd recomend finding what works or doesn't for you and sticking to that.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I'd love to do a Boddington'esque video on NA wild sheep. I haven't seen anything of the like out there, and there hasn't been much written on what to do to be a successful sheep hunter in a long time. You could cover conditioning, gear for backpacking, nutrition, pack dogs, horse packing, habits, habitat, how to glass, guns, loads, shooting in mountainous terrain, judging sheep, etc, etc.

One on mule deer hunting would also rock. There is a lot more info out there on backcountry mule deer hunting (Eastman, Long, Prothero, Darner, Hanes, etc), but I've never seen a good quality video that covers it all.

Cheers
Chris

I for one like the Boddington books and DVDs immensely.

I'd rather own or watch one Boddington DVD than a hundred of those 'let the animal decide' bollocks!

As for the marketing, that's all part of the real world of business and financing a project and I've yet to see a single product recommended that isn't absolutely top notch.

The Surefires especially.... and especially the Surefire Kroma are the dog's doo dahs and Surefire could sponsor me with a few of their products anytime they like!! Wink

I assure you if you continue using a Surefire you will get your doo dahs scratched by a Leopard and I wish Streamlite would let me advertise that?

We have now recently moved to a very powerful little torch - Led Lenser (from Denmark) - that takes affordable AAA batteries. Note all torches mentioned have been bolted onto heavy calibre rifles and with the exception of Craig's favorite have worked very well.

Andrew,

I think we misunderstand each other..... I'm talking about giving the Kroma (on blue light function) to the tracker to help him follow the blood trail easier..... and it works an absolute treat for that.

I use the small ordinary Surefire taped to the barrel and wear two headlights to look for the cat and illuminate the forsight.

Works a treat for me mate!

I have a great idea guys, why don't you big talkers just not plunk down any money on any of our Boddington DVD's or watch our TV shows. That way you won't be subjected to all the horrors of production realities and besides, a couple of you are such total experts on everything Africa, you have nothing to learn by watching. On top of that I won't have to listen to your chicken shit sniping of everything we do. By the way Lane, you never did get back to me with the list of guys who outdo Craig as far as their contributions to the safari hunting world. That is on AR page one under the " hunting ethics" thread. Also Lane, I bet you do not get too upset when your PH hero Nigel ( who is a great guy in my opinion so no slap at him) shows photos of your nice Uganda trophies at DSC or SCI in hopes of "promoting his service" GOD FORBID that type of commercialism. What the hell is the difference? I find it funny that a few of our big , vocal, and constant detractors are the same guys that promote the" get close, then ten yards closer " approach on dangerous game, but feel free to snipe from long distance from the security of the internet. I believe the vast majority of guys here like our stuff, and for that I an very thankful. If it is not your favorite it might be a editing style, or game hunted thing. No problem. But when a few of you mock every thing we do top to bottom it makes me ask "why don't you get out there like we do and show us how it's done. Make the time commitments away from home and family. Spend the money on gear, travel, cameras, editing equipment, personel and the list goes on. Spend 4 months a year in the badlands after stuff that can and does kill my type with nothing but a camera in your hands all in an effort to make an honest living and produce a product that folks with your same passion will enjoy. Tim, Craig, and for the most point Ivan laugh our detractors off and don't get upset about your internet bitch slaps. I am wired a bit differently. My days of offering to square off on this type of nonesense are behind me , but once, just once I would like one of you to have the simple courtesy, or balls to come up and give it to us in person . No one's going to come over a table, but it would be a real treat to have you be looking us in the eye as you school us on all of our missteps. We are not hard to find either. To close, I know Craig has his detractors, for whatever reason. Most of us do. I am not a guy that blindly defends any man. Few people know Craig as well as I do. Yet I am sure no one fights with him with the frequency or volume as I do ! But he is a decent guy, beyond dedicated to our sport, friendly to strangers, good to his wife, loyal to his country and won't kick his dog kind of guy. Honestly he deserves better treatment than he gets here. But AR is a place to share ideas, compare notes, trade photos and all the other good stuff we all enjoy while logged on. And I am all for that. I know our efforts are not everybody's cup of tea. But when a thread turns from buffalo shit to chicken shit , I feel a need to have my say. There it is.

Yeah I also gave mine to the tracker.

Note Steve you can get a mount that bolts onto the barrel and then you can calibrate the beam to point of aim. Fortunately have yet to try it out.

Andrew,

I find I can tape mine to the barrel and it's just right.... but a bracket would be an improvement..... I'd also like to see them produce a replacement end cap with a pressure pressure switch that can be fixed to the forend.

You don't like the blue Kroma then? I love mine to bits!!

Calm down, and none here has put your friend down. Yes there maybe a couple of jibes at marketing and self promotion but rather read them as humor, something which is often lacking in these forums.

Sure Craig is a good chap he just sold me a crap torch.

tu2 tu2 tu2 tu2 well stated. I have only meet craig once and he was a great guy to meet even as busy as he was we did have a couple of good jokes together. Elton,Shirly,Tim,David and Chip know him and yourself and they all say he and yourself are great guy and I have found a lot of arm chair cowboys on here who don't know shit from shinola just like to hear themselve talk and Bitch about eveything and every body. Craigs work on film and in paper is among the best out there right. I have spoken to Ivan a couple of time and he is equaly as upstanding as craig. For those who are jealouse or just armchair cowboys there not worth the time it argue with.

Dave,
Last time I checked...the USA was still a free country! Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. You have yours...and I have mine.

By the way...there are numbers kept on how many ele get shot in self-defense by Zim PH's. Somebody ought to check and compare sometime.

In the last MS thread I brought up some of the striking similarities between MS and Ivan. I find it rather ridiculous that most people openly condemn MS for ANYTHING he does, but yet think EVERYTHING Ivan Carter does is just wonderful. I really don't get it??? Did anyone else see him jump up on top of a freaking elephant with a client and then have said client shoot an insurance shot between their feet????? Eeker If that isn't over the top risk taking and showmanship I don't know what is? As others have said elephant hunting is about getting in close seeing the animals and leaving. Not screwing with them every chance you get. Just a thought. After making the comments about MS and Ivan being similar I got several PMs from people very well thought of around here that totally agree. Unfortunately anything with the CB seal of approval seems to be above reproach these days. I'm not knocking Craig, but I really feel Ivan is reckless. Of course I'm as armchair of an elephant hunter as it get's so take my comments with a grain of salt.

Dave,

Just scrolling back through these threads - what really got your goat?

For my two cents my top five would start with Jack O'Connor.
