Hmmmmmmm.......PB is still letting me post. Does one have to be over a certain capacity before it shuts you down? Have never upgraded. My account shows 12%.

They will take your pictures, it's just a matter of time. I posted pictures this week, then within a few days they removed them. I have down loaded quite a few pics on Imgur, very easy. Posted some on a test and Fairgame helped me get the correct size. If I can do it, anybody can. I am almost computer illiterate.

Some good free resizing software is FastStone Photo Resizer. It is a little complicated to set up but once done is very quick and easy to use. You can get the download here:

And here's a youtube video on how to set it up:

Does anyone know how to convert personal photo's to URL so we can replace PB pics here on AR? There has to be better options than photobucket. I want to cancel my account with them. They are not worth $399 a year.

The easy solutions are

One: Change to imgur or similar site. This is a short term fix as they may follow the FB rout and try to eye gouge.

Two: Get a hosting account with Godaddy, Mydomain etc. That give you your personal account and you can do what you want. It may cost you around $40 a year
a) You can set up your own website, blog etc
b) You can host your own photos
c) You could join up with friends and share the cost
d) You could set up an account and charge others say $10 a year

Three: You could buy your own NAS server etc and set up your own cloud and compete with Phototbucket on a commercial scale!

I am just lazy and slow on tech matters. I will end up with a Godaddy account & my own hosting site or I might join up and share costs with a few others here on AR.

Just an idea - would Saeed have the capacity to set this this up for members only?

I don't mind paying PB. No more pictures than I have on there, it amounts to over $1 per picture per year. I tried Imgur and had major issues on the size. Too busy to work on it.

Try this. It took me a while, but it works once you get the hang of it. Besure to resize your pic, either before or once it is uploaded onto Imgur account.

For what it's worth, after my last experience with Photobucket, where I was barely able to upload photos due to all the ads, I looked around and decided to try imgur.com.

This afternoon, I just replaced by trip report photos hosted at Photobucket with photos hosted at imgur.com.

From what I can see, the advantages to imgur is that there are no ads (that I saw), it has a very uncluttered interface, and changing out my links to Photobucket pictures was "relatively easy" (Your mileage may vary.) Oh yes, it's free.

If there are disadvantages, I'd be glad to hear about them.

For what it's worth, here's a short tutorial based on my experience today. This might help you if you want to give it a try. Or not.

The steps were something like:
1. Login to imgur.com with my Google account.
2. Create a new album.
3. Drag and drop the photos to upload them. (All done from my desktop computer; I have not looked to see what is possible with phone apps.)
4. Resize each photo to a width of 1024 pixels. I did this on the web interface rather than resizing the photos before I uploaded them. If I was using a slow internet connection, I might resize the photos first.

Then, from accuratereloading.com, I:
6. Opened my post. and pressed the edit button.
7. I selected and copied all the text from my post to notepad.

8.

The BBCode image tags are obtained by hovering the mouse over your photo and clicking on the down caret, then choosing "Get share links"

That will give you this choice; click on "BBCode (Forums)"

Then, paste the image tag into your text file and replace the Photobucket image tag.

9. When I was done replacing all the BBCode image tags that pointed to Photobucket with new ones that pointed to imgur.com, I copied the entire revised text and pasted it into the edit window, replacing the old text.

larryshores mentioned he had problems resizing the photos (perhaps because he is trying to do it from his phone? I couldn't find a way to resize from the Android app); jdollar is having problems getting the BBcode to appear as an image.

You can see your photos in imgur.com from your gallery (where all your photos are shown) or from an album (if you are organizing your photos in albums). Depending on which way you get to your photo, the approach for controlling the size and getting the link is slightly different. So here is an explanation for doing this from a web browser; I'm using Firefox on a PC; maybe I'll record another video later. You'll want to choose either Step 1 (From the album) or Step 2 (From all your images), then Step 3.

Step 1. From the album

When you hover your mouse over the picture, a few buttons appear in the upper right hand corner of the image. Press the circled one:

If you haven't already resized your photos, choose "Edit Image"; your image will appear inside a window with several editing options; it comes up with Crop / Resize selected. In the upper right hand corner, you will see the size of the photo (circled) given as width x height in pixels:

IMO, somewhere between 1024 and 1280 is about right. If you just set the width and leave the "lock proportions" box checked, it will calculate the height. I believe the problem that has been mentioned with sizing is that if the original photo comes straight from a modern digital camera, the size may be over 4000 pixels wide.

Then,Save the resized image, and you will return to the photo; press the down arrow again, and choose " Get Share Links":

The press the Copy button next to BBCode (Forums)

2. From the Gallery

If you just choose images from the main menu (under your user name) you'll see all your photos as small thumbnails. Just click on the one you want to upload, or click on any photo, and scroll through the images individually. When you get to the one you want to post, it will appear like so:

You need to do two things:
a. Choose the size in the lower right hand corner. I suggest either Large Thumbnail.
or Huge Thumbnail
b. Click the Copy button next under "BBCode (Message Boards & Forums)"

Go to Step 3.

3. Paste into your forum post

Whichever step above you've followed, you should end up with the BBCode in your paste buffer. So, all you need to do is paste it into the edit window with Control-V:

Don't use the image button that I x'ed out.

-----------

I hope this helps.

Same bullshit. Link only. Maybe it's because I am on an iMac rather than windows. The copy button copies only a link, not the image. Oh well, it just isn't worth the effort...

Jdollar,
If you have any "try" left in you, try uploading a pic using jpgbox.com
It is so simple that at least you will not have much time invested.
You do not need to make an account just to upload a pic; then if it is OK you can sign up and it will keep you pix separate from others.

You need to resize it on your album & save. Then just type["IMG]xxx[/IMG]" and make sure your url is http & not https

Like this

I have deleted the photos you posted as they are far too big to fit on the forum.

Please resize them to post here.

Thanks to the generous assistance of Nakihunter, Hannay, Darin and a few others, I went to imgur, signed up, loaded pics, resized to 885 pixels and have completely reloaded my 2007 safari pics. It was easy, took some time to load that many pics but very easy with no problems. Thank you all! Now to reload all the rest...grrrr! I hope Photobucket goes away like the Dodo birds they are.
