Is it common after a hunt to do a photo safari ? I dont want to do it in a car or something like that i want to sneek up to the animals, and instead of shooting with the rifle take the camera instead ? How does photosafaris work, i have seen long caravans with cars and that is not how i want to do it..Ivan ?

Keep a small digital with a zoom in your pocket, and keep a large optical zoom in your kit-bag while hunting. You should get plenty of opportunities for photos.
Remember that animals in hunting zones tend to be much more wary/spooky than do those in Parks which are accustomed to seeing vehicles on a daily basis. Most animals that allow a vehicle to approach within 60-70 yds will spook the instant you set foot outside the truck--or even open a door.

i am a strong proponent of doing some photo at the beggining or end ...choose carefully the parks and there are many where you can actually get out with a guide .. the best of the best is mana pools , in mana i spend at lest 70% of the time out of the vehicle ...other parks are simply better seen from a vehicle , cats are always better from a vehicle as you can get very close ...

places , like mana where there has not been hunting in many many years and where there are commonly walking safaris the animals in particular the elephants are far more relaxed ...

I am going before hand. Hopefully it will calm some of the excitment. Hope to see most of my target species and get a good close up look at how there built.
I know they have hides set up where i am going for photography. I hope we can get out on foot some.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Be aware that what your sneaking up on isn't sneaking up on you. Predators of Africa are not to be taken lightly. As Ivan suggested, carefully choose your photo Guide/PH and most of all, listen to them. Enjoy, David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
