I have hunted in South Africa twice, and had an absolutely fantastic time. And I posted details of our hunts right here - the idea of the so called "purists" trashing anyone's hunts rubbish. Each individual should go on the hunt HE prefers, and be proud of it. Trouble is we have some individuals if everyone does not praise their hunts get a bit upset and delete what they had written. Some even go as far as get very active here, get all the information they need, go on a hunt, then post details on Facebook! Then get all sorts of weirdo's calling them all sorts of names, and they disappear off the face of the earth of shame. Just like those who keep saying that shooting off the back of the truck is not sporting. It might not be. But in certain countries that is exactly how they hunt. One is not forced to do it, but it is not against the law as in other countries. Again, hunt in any way you are comfortable with, and it is legal, and pay no attention to anyone else. And if anyone tells you otherwise, tell them to take a hike.

Saeed: You posts makes me think of a situation here in the US. In my home state, it is illegal to spread corn and hunt over it. In Texas, it is normal to spread corn and hunt over it.

There are many inconsistencies like that in game management around the globe. In Africa it is perfectly acceptable in many countries to shoot plains game and then hang the meat as bait for lions or leopard. In most states and provinces in North America you would be not only charged and sent to court for wasting meat by the game department, the locals would vilify you. All depends on how you were raised and the local views on things and conservation models being followed. People in North America would find the meat used for bait even more puzzling in Africa as they are constantly told that people are short of food in many parts of Africa........ especially protein. We also cannot bait deer where I live, but right next door in the neighbouring province it is completely legal. Heck currently we have a huge issue with snow geese and the damage they are doing to the environment. They want hunters to shoot more of these birds and have greatly increased the bag limit but persist with the "do not waste meat" regulations. This precludes the hunters from getting rid of the dead snow geese......... you can only shoot and eat so many and trick your neighbours into taking so many off your hands. There are many things in so called "game management" that have mixed signals and are viewed morally and ethically in different ways by different people. It is somewhat of an albatross around our necks. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.

100% spot on. There are differences in what is viewed as ethical hunting in one area vs another, even when those two areas are literally side by side. Where we as hunters do a disservice to each other is when we divide amongst our own ranks. Calling out other hunters doing something illegal is the right thing to do but just driving a wedge based upon differences in local customs is damaging to our solidarity as a group. This particular thread has been a wedge! Lots of hypocrisy in this one!

I have heard via PM BTW per my question above that there have been some gutless asshats that have given guys shit about their SA hunts via PM. If that happened to you Ted, I am sorry. A man's hunt and trophies are just that, HIS. They should never been denigrated or belittled. My first whitetail was a 4 point when I was 12. That is my favorite trophy of all. Don't like it? Tough. BB: If only we could rope in more kids of that age to shoot 4 pointers - I'm guessing nobody kicked your ass for doing so either.

I killed my first deer in 1970 a couple of months after my 20th. birthday. I occasionally run across the one picture I have of that buck, and even though it was a good deer, an 8 pointer, for that point in time and that area, but in today's testosterone driven hunting world it would be laughed at. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Yup. Shocking. It takes a special kind of jackass to do something like that. Some never cease to amaze me.

I do not have a problem with having other AR members PM me, as long as the PM is about nonsense or inquiring about a hunt or just gathering information. Were another member to PM me and start crap about a hunt report I made, I would call them out about it on the site. Someone makes a report about a hunt they did, it is because the hunt meant something to them, no one should rain on someone else's parade over minutia. Even the rocks don't last forever.
