A bear for Tred (Airing this Sunday!!)

I just finished up a hunt with Tred Barta where he took a nice black bear with his longbow. The hunt was a blast with a fair amount of action. The hounds wasted a bit of time chasing long claw bears, but closed the deal treeing a shooter boar the last day just as the skies opened up with hail, rain, thunder and lightening. An awesome time was had, the film crew was outstanding and easy to work with. This should make for an awesome show.
We treed a bunch of bear during the hunt but some where to high up, to small, sows and to far to get Tred to in his chair.
Tred has booked to comeback in Febuary 2012 to hunt Canadian Lynx, looking forward to that as well.

Looks like Tred traded his chair in on a dozer.

I had seen the tv show of him getting a bear but he was in a standard wheelchair and the crew had to really work hard to get through that rough country. I thought there must be a better way like a tracked chair .Now he has one ! Big Grin
Could you give us some info about it ?

Great trip. Tred's chair is very cool; and, I can't believe how that dog can climb!

I was hunting on the first show as well, and your right it took alot of man power with a normal chair. Action Trackchair was kind enough to let us try it out for the show abd we all where surprised how quiet the chair was and how extreme it was as well. Tred for the first time in two years went down fishing on his own and took a ride down old logging roads, no help at all. This gave him a real sense of independance.
Thanks to Action Track chair for the support.

Good stuff CH.....I'm glad to see Tred thrive and he does it with a lot of support from good people like yourself.

That climbing dog is a riot!

Again.....next time you're involved in putting together a show......if you need a surgeon who hunts his ass off too.....gimme a call!!! Might make for a good story line. Wink

You know, Doug, if used properly and if carefully melded with the huge increase in bear attacks on humans in BC in recent years, that hunt and the show resulting from it could become a very powerful tool against the anti-hunters we are pestered by.

One of my nephews, walking on a trail a short distance from our ancestral home in Nelson, BC, close to the graves of our ancestors there dating from the mid-1890s, and where we always exercised our dogs, was jumped by a sow Grizzly and two cubs at the beginning of May...he got away from her and no harm was done, but, Nelson has Grizzlies wandering around in neighbourhoods where the houses are over a century old and because of "environmentalists" who leave huge compost piles out and are professional people who pretend to live the rural lifestyle.

There have not been Grizzlies there for a century, yet, they have returned in considerable numbers and are very aggressive to humans and domestic animals. The area is crawling with Cougars and those buggers come right up on porches and eat pet cats and dogs. We NEED more predator hunting and this show seems to be one that might well show it in a positive light.

So, I think that many here in BC might well see a value in a person such as Tred harvesting a bear and if this were presented well, it could really help to save hunting from the various types who militate against it. Just a thought, anyway.

Never saw a dog do that before. I have a lab like that. Heart of a lion, brain of a gnat. Wouldn't trade him for the world.
Glad to see Tred up and about.

If I was ever stuck in a chair, I would just have to get a Trackchair.
Best thing I've seen in years.

That's awesome. Tred is an inspiration.

By the way, how did that dog get down? I assume it wasn't gracefully.

I'm fairly certain those are Treein' Walker Hounds and they will get motivated to attempt to climb on occasion. My dad has always had Walkers, they are great dogs.
Good hunt well done.
God forbid I ever need a wheel chair but if I do, I want that one. Looks like you could mount a weapons system on that thing.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.

I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

Tred had a spinal stoke in 2009 leaving him paralysed from the chest down.

I talked to Tred today. He says the footage for the show is awesome, it could be his best show yet. I can't wait to see it myself, as it is cool to see the cameras perspective.
I will let you know what the date for the airing is.
