No, remington couldn't get the quailty up for high pressure loads.

Ignore tom, as a $800 double hurts his resale business... and HE thinks "Real" double start at 10 times that...

.........and he's right! $800 and double rifle don't belong in the same paragraph! $800 will buy a little over two boxes of ammo for a real double rifle!
jumping jumping jumping

That ought to stir the pot some! stir stir Big Grin

However, if they ever come to the USA, I'll buy one and rebarrel it to 30-30, with 16" barrels, for a canoe rifle, so if it gets dumped in the river, nothing much is lost! thumb

The Pedersoli never was that cheap! I got the 34 th one of the assebly line, and it was $900, and that was only because Phill Spangenburger released an article too early stateing that the rifle would sell for $900 usd, and Col Powasnic let me have one because I called him the day after the article hit the stands, and he let me have one for $900 usd, but they already knew thay couldn't sell them for that! The first ones were sold for $1150 in 1985 dollars. I doubt the Pedersoli muzzleloading double rifle sold for much less than the $729, 10 yrs ago, in 1997! In 1998 the price was $2495 usd for the Pedersoli Kodiak Mark IV double rifle. and irt was available chambered for 45-70, which was the only caliber origenally, also 9.3X74R,8X57JRS. With a set of interchangable 20 Ga shot barrels, in addtion to the rifle barrels the price was $4125 usd! Confused

At one time the Pedersoli barrels could not be re-regulated because the were brazed and not soft soldered. Does anyone know if this is still true?

I got one of those early ones from Mike for about $900. It had separate rear sights for each barrel.
Still, I did kill four bull rockchucks, one in full charge with the HiVel 300gr loads (1850fps). That $3250 or so is too close to a real DR for me to shop them again....can anybody say "Sha-pwee""?

The disposable double rifle?

The only chance of it being offered in the US is if Gillette acquires the rights and markets them along side their disposable razors. Or maybe, a nice receiver with a six pack of disposable barrels.

love you guys, but the ONLY reason they aren't here is remington didn't want them to BE disposable.. don't let the ignorance run rampant... if the @#$@#$@ things would have taken a 60KPSI 45/70 you all would have them, period.

in fact, if they were available today, i am dead certain ALL of us would own at least one.

I just do not under stand why every time someone talks about a 45/70 double, so many people are ready to "bore it out"?

You are missing the whole point about a 45/70 double. It is a deer, pig, black bear over bait, elk in thisc timber gun.

A properly built 45/70 double is not heavy enough to make into an elephant gun. They are not designed to have enough steel in the bbls to "bore out".

I would have bought one of the Remington 45/70, and been perfectly happy just shooing factory 300grain loads in it [or equivelent handloads].

A 45/70 double is not a cheap way to an elephant gun.

If you want a cheap double rifle elephant gun [relatively speaking] get a Chapuis in 9,3x74R.

i would have cut the BBL's to 20" and shot 405 lead over FFF.
