I know that there are some interesting big caliber wildcats out there but I can’t find anything worth while on the net.

Does any one have some info?

On this board you will find the creators of several big bore wildcats, do a search for "600 Overkill" (Robgunbuilder) and "12ga From Hell" (Robgunbuilder and Hubel458). IIRC Jefferesso also has a few big cats under construction. Ed Hubel (Hubel458) has worked on several that bear his name, from 458 to 700cal and a 2 bore beast.

Howdy,
amoung other things, the nominal members of the STC hunting club have invented the following AND have them shooting

2bore - edhubell Ed
-a TWO bore

4bore - Ed again, basically a Tula

12ga from hell - Robgunbuilder (Rob)
-a straight bmg case, with a rim added

600 Overkill (ok) - Rob
-- Belted bespoke case that can chunk a 900 at 2400

550 Magnum - RNS (Neil)
--bespoke weatherby 460ISH case (3" long, but you can use 2.9 weatherby cases) 700gr at 2400 www.550magnum.com

550 Express - Neil with a little help from me
-- 2.65" version of the above, 700@2130 in a standard length, single stack mag

470 Mbogo - 470mbogo here, Dave is hia name. He may have started the bigbore 'catting craze himself, and by himself ..

-500gr .475 bullet, 2500 FPS, 3" bespoke rigby case, can use 416 basic, but can't crimp

AR Rounds

470 AR (Accurate reloading) - Myself and Paul Hail
- 2.55" RUM case, shortened and improved 500gr .475 at 2350+ (load dev still under work on all AR rounds)

458 AR - Myself and Paul Hail
- 2.55" RUM case, shortened and improved 500gr .458 at 2350+ (load dev still under work on all AR rounds)

416 AR - Myself and Paul Hail
- 2.55" RUM case, shortened and improved 400gr .416 at 2450+ (load dev still under work on all AR rounds)

and that doesn't include Rip's Stable of rounds, but I can't ever remember exactly what the finalized names are!

i am suprised dave has not embraced the 500 mbogo like some here have. dave...you have a lot of pull with the brass people, you could get the 500 mbogo off the ground and give a viable option to the a2 ect and increase the intrest in the 470 mbogo. both are excelent!!! salute

Also, giving it a modest bc (correct bc is unknown) of .353 it still beats the 460 Weatherby ( at the muzzle) @ 450 yards (8138 ft lbs)

Dave necked the 470 to .510 about 5 years ago, and everyone told him it wouldn't work... so, bowing to common sense, he didn't do it.. unlike me, who dave told me to do the DANG 470 ar...common sense be damned

i hope dave's friends read his posts when its done and give him a mea culpa.

hopefully dave will post rips stuff on the mbogo website.

the 510 will be a mbogo, just a diff. flavor for those who like chocholate over vanilla but the 510 nuts will love it (no slight on the 470 it is awesome)

AND I GUESS CANUCK WILL HAVE THE #1 MBOGO AND THE #2 500 MBOGO. A MATCHING SET Big Grin

SOOOOOO IS THE 375 MBOGO NEXT animal

No offense taken.

I am not holding my breath until the more fanciful headstamps arrive, so here are my simple RIPoffs that I claim association with:

.375/.338 Lapua
.423/.338 Lapua
.458/.338 Lapua
500/470 Mbogo

I also have a 300 Lapua that is throated like a 300 Weatherby that I will call the .308/.338 Lapua to complete the Big Five RIPoffs. That is truly a ripoff. Note: the 300 Lapua has a 25 degree shoulder semi-angle, whereas the .338 Lapua's is 20 degrees. This was done by Lapua to maintain adequate neck length when necking down from .338 to .308. Conversely, necking up the .338 Lapua 20 degree angle produces proportionately longer necks as caliber increases, so all the rest of the Lapua RIPoff line has 20 degree shoulders maintained. The Mbogo RIPoff has a 35 degree shoulder semi-angle of course.

I am just necking up and/or throating to my preference the .338 Lapua Magnum, 300 Lapua Magnum, and the 470 Mbogo. Some other interesting cartridges are pictured above for comparison, like the .416 Dakota and 404 Dakota (a full length and a shortened 404 Jeffery), the .338 Lapua as "337," the 470 Mbogo, and the .505 Gibbs. The terminal "7" on a RIPoff Cartridge caliber designator number stands for a special throating of a Lapua based cartridge.

The Big Five RIPoffs, in summary, for ease of headstamp alteration:
.308/.338 Lapua
.375/.338 Lapua
.423/.338 Lapua
.458/.338 Lapua
500/470 Mbogo

Or alternatively:
30 Lapua
37 Lapua
42 Lapua
45 Lapua
50 Mbogo

Now for the laughable part. If properly headstamped RIPoff brass ever arrives:
307 Chui
377 Simba
427 Kifaru
457 Tembo
500 Mbogo

I am not a wildcatter, I am a RIPoff artist, and it is no wonder that nobody can remember what to call the RIPoffs. animal
