What do you bait those things in with? Ground squirrels? Meerkats? "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. She affects some people that way, and those who feel as I do need no explanation." from The Last Safari

Guys, I'd be ecstatic with a trophy like that. The African wildcat is one of the rarest and most elusive of game animals. Larry should be very happy with his trophy. Mark MARK H. If you look closeley, you will see that his nose is completely black. This is the sign of a true African trophy Wildcat. We shot these in Namibia with lights while out hunting for Jackal in 2001. Gras ranch has quite a few of them.

Do you call these cats in or are they taken by chance while hunting something else.

LOL... I met Larry at the Afton house a couple of weeks ago. Very nice guy, I hope his hunt went well! Great trophy! Hard to come by (at least they have been for me). Congratulations, in spite of all of the comments made in jest.

Best place to find the African Wild Cat is around grain fields. They are there looking for rodents. I recommend using a shotgun with #4 (US) shot but do not shoot them at close range. 35-45 yards is best. They are indeed great trophies. Glad to see you guys all had a good laugh on this monster. As Mark says, these are a hard to come by trophy. We baited extensively for this cat because as Wendel says, he has a solid black nose. It took almost a full buffalo in different bait sites before he finally came in. Luckily we got him. Thanks to some of Dirk Lawyers fine loads in 500NE it only took two shots. Will send the real story soon when I can post some photos. Thanks for the humor Wendell. Larry York, SC

I have done a lot of predator calling here in South Africa. In specific area's they are common when calling for jackal and caracal. They breed easily with domestic cats.
