Kenneth Ball and Nicol Martin both of South Africa, but hunt Zim often too.

Both with Shi-Awela Safaris. I'm partial, but I have hunted with them multiple times, and they are the best I've ever had.

One of the very best, anywhere, is semi-retired, Roy Vincent. His son Alan still works as a PH with Tanzania Game Trackers, and he's very good. These are the same people whom Saeed hunts with. I had the great pleasure of hunting twice with Roy, and he's simply superb!

Edit:
Wow, I just went back and read this thread from the beginning, and only now realized that it was started 4 years ago. I wonder how much this list would change if it were started today instead of in 2006? I'll also say that Koos Moulder of Spear Safaris is very good. We only had a short hunt with him, but he was very friendly, knowledgeable of the game and areas he hunts, and concerned with taking only fully mature, quality animals. I'd really like to hunt with him again.

Well,
Based on my only experience in Africa, I'd say I couldnt have asked for more than I received from Wayne Bartlett - truly went out of his way for my dad and myself in his efforts to find great game and to keep us satisfied with every aspect of the safari.

I have had the pleaasure of hunting with Rodie Tourle twice in Zim and my hunting partner had Wayne Bartlett for his ph. I would feel priviliged to have the opportunity to hunt again with either of them.

Wayne made sure that my friend's young children had a great experience and went well above and beyond normal requirements.

Pierre van Tonder and Wickus Groenwald in tanzania are also top drawer as is Huntley Ferreira of Huntley Ferreira Safaris in S.A.. I have hunted with Huntley 5 times including 2 buff hunts in Zambia and he is a hoot to be around.

I have been on 1 hunt in Africa, May 2009 RSA with Pieter-Louis Le Roux of Wild Footprint Safaris. Had a great time! We were very well taken care of and the quality of the hunt was better than I could have imagined. The only problem is that I got bit by the African hunting bug. The symptoms are terrible. I day dream of Africa almost every waking hour. Can't wait to go back.

I have hunted with Kalihari Hunting Safari's, Namibia three times. They are the best I have hunted with. The PH's are Dr. Jean VanRooyen, (yes, he's an MD.), Johan Kotze, Heinrik Kotze, Deon Van Wyk and Louw Van Wyk. All are top notch. I have hunted Africa 6 times and they are by far the best for plains game.......Tom

Oryxhunter,
Only yesterday I had a friend do a search via "FIND" on the allocated PH for his up and coming full bag Safari's in Tanzania.
He found that I new this chap via this thread or similar, and emailed me to get more info about the PH.
As far as I'm concerned with the "FIND" option on this sight, this can be an excellent way to confirm a very important part of your Safari.

All of the above run top notch professional outfits and have a passion for what they do. I have to declare my interest and tell all that Glenn and Gordon are family of mine , but I can then add that I know from experience that these guys have grown up on wildlife in Zimbabwe and know their stuff.

In Zimbabwe:

Kevin DuBoil
Owain Lewis

Don't know that Kevin is hunting, last I heard he's trying to protect his farm in Zim. He was an absolutely great PH, would go with him again anytime.
Friends had Owain Lewis and had extremely high praise for him also. We've been on safari 5 times and had varying experiences with PHs, hopefully will have many more (safaris).

A great thread with much valuable information. From my experience, I would offer the following:

Zimbabwe or South Africa: Mark DeWet www.markdewetsafaris.com

Comment:
Mark is immensely knowledgable and experienced, and is one of the PH legends in Africa. Importantly, he is extremely bright, a wonderful conversationalist, and great fun to be with. He will work his ass off for you, all the while under-promising and over-delivering. He's a man's man and the women love him. Mark also offers some of the best deals on buffalo and other dangerous game.

I had a great hunt with Tim Lamprecht with Jimba Safaris. Booked through Adam Clements (via Mark Young). Tim worked hard and was no nonsense in the field. I too recommend upping your fitness level in order to maximize the hunting experience.

Can't imagine why I haven't stumbled on this thread before but here's what I know.

Having only hunted in Africa once, I'm happy to recommend Jason van Aarde of Tomkinsons. He took me up to everything on my list in northern Mozambique last September (buffalo, sable, kudu and impala) and I know he found a good elephant for the client after me.
