I hunted the Eastern Cape of RSA with Marius van Deventer and Andries Nesenberend of Africa Bushveld Safaris the first week of April this year. It was top notch all the way. Well organized, great hunting, first rate lodge and staff and the food is outstanding. On top of that, both are the kind of guys you enjoy being afield with. Marius and Andries will give you the hunt you need and put good animals in front of you.

I took seven good animals on a 10 day plains game safari using a Sharps in 45-110. I have booked again for May of 2008, and have two friends making the trip with me this time. I can't give any better recommendation than that.

We hunted this summer with Dirk Rohrmann in Namibia - had a blast.

Since this was our first safari, we have no standard of comparison . . . but we had a blast and have already re-booked with them.

I had the pleasure of hunting with Marius Van Deventer and Andries Nesenberend of Africa Bushveld Safaris and can only add my vote of confidence to that which has already been given by BobS and sharpsguy! From the moment we arrived, to the (dreaded) last day, we were treated like family and couldn't have asked for more. ABS and I are still in contact by email, and if God is willing I will see Marius, Andries, and their beautiful families soon.

Please remember I am coming from my perspective with my wife accompanying me. I hunted with Matapula Safaris which I felt were the best I've used out of 7 Zim safaris. My PH was Derek (Gomez) Adams and honestly I felt he put us in harms way unnecessarily a few times. My opinion only. As I said in my earlier post, we loved the camps and got excellent trophies but!!!

I have hunted with MATUPULA for 3 elephants, 3 buffaloes, and more than 80-90 plains game. I have done 8 safaris with them and celebrated my bachelors party in zim with my friends organized by them.Booked another elephant hunt for august 2008.I will hunt with Willi this year now he is not only my Ph for the hunt but a good friend. Took my wife 2 times. She does not hunt. I can tell you i give them a 10 out of 10. most of the times hunted with Willy Mills how is a superb PH. you can absolutely take your wife with him, he is the man. Another hunts were made with Mark Butcher "Butch" Nothing to say. He is so GOOD that needs no explanation. If you want a big elephant in Zimbabwe he is a sure shoot.
In Cameroon; Felix Barrado for the jungle. You´ll get your Bongo 29" or more but he is a character. Don´t fiddle with him because he is the best Ph you will find in Cameroon but he takes no crap from no one.Have this very clear.39 years hunting all over the world.NSOK SAFARIS
Pepo Arribas is also a very good hunter and very easy going.
In the North pole; Charly, he will get you a biiiiggg Polar bear.Contact him trough Joe Verni he is a very good booking agent for Canada.
any further questions I may answer just ask
Sorry we are in an African forum forget the last bit.

I'm with H T; Guav Johnson if you can get him. After your buffalo hunt read Boddington on Buffalo. You will think Guav wrote the book.

In RSA I enjoy Pete Swanepol's company.

I agree with your assessment of Matapula. I hunted with them twice. Although I was not thrilled with Derek, I have nothing but respect for both Marks and their camp on the Zambezi was second to none. I shot a very nice bushbuck from a rubber raft on the Zambezi that is one of the best memories of my trips to Africa. Thanks for the info on the others

Terry Calavrias with Zuka Safaris in Tanzania. Dad and I spent a great week in the Selous, and although I'm the only guy ever to hunt Buff in the Selous and come home empty handed, it was one of the best weeks of my life. Great Lichtenstiens Hartebeest, and I for one wish all young PHs were as adept and tried to please as much as Terry. If you can get him, you'll have a great time. BN

In Zambia I have hunted with Athol Frylinck, a very knowledgeable and dedicated PH. He hunts a very game rich GMA and runs a very exclusive and topnotch operation. His operation is very expansive but there is very good reason for it.

In Zimbabwe I have hunted with Derek Adam “Gomezâ€. He knows all the tricks in book, if there is even one shootable animal in the entire concession, he will get you on it.

I hunted the eastern cape of South Africa in October 2007 with Jimbah Safaris. Owen Smith is a fine PH and excellent hunter who thoroughly enjoys a good stalk. It was a successful 10-day hunt. Jimbah Safaris is customer oriented and caters to every imaginable need, their facilities are outstanding and the land they hunt contains a wide variety of wildlife. Some of my South Africa pics are online at:
http://www.brewersafrica.com/trophies
Jimbah's facilities are online at:

I will definitely return to hunt with Owen.

He took care of my family for 10 days in Tanzania. Wife and three boys 16,14,11. He's a great hunter, gracious host, and, after what we put him through, possibly a saint!

They're in the process of upgrading their web site.
Marius VanDeventers is an outstanding PH.
We have hunted with him twice. Our first experience in ZA. with another PH was awful, and of course we were skeptical about going back again.
Marius and his partner Andries quickly put our concerns to rest.
I highly recommend them for a ZA. plains game hunt, goose, duck and dove shoot, varmint, or bush pig or baboon hunt.
They are honest and just great people to be with.
We have stayed with them for 17 days each time and never have had a dull moment.

Fred Bezuidenhout guided me to a buffalo in the Caprivi, and I hunted PG on Clive Eaton's Tholo ranch in Botswana with young Steven Vandermerwe. Both straightshooters, honest and hardworking, a pleasure to hunt with. If I ever manage to get back to Africa I would unhesitatingly seek out one or both of these fine gents.

Two trips in Namibia with Karl Stumpfe, Ndumo Safaris. Very attentive to my desire for hunting style, extraordinary knowledge and hunting skill, and an honest, moral man.

Very importantly he was very protective of my wife's safety and privacy.

Top notch.

As a concession holder in Botswana and a Park warden with the Parks board in RSA - I had the opportuinity to work with many excellent PH's and some we shall not mention:
One PH I have not noticed mentioned is John Abraham of Madubula Safaris - recent recipient of SCI International hunter of the year award.
Cambell Smith who resides in RSA and hunts and outfits throughout Africa.
Richard Du Bafanus from Rann safaris in Botswana.
Garry Kelly from RSA
Robert Ramajaga over 40 years of hunting in Botswana.
Botes Van Der Merwe of River Dance Safaris in RSA.
Arthur Vickerman Kalahari and Botswana - the charging leopard man - possibly shot more tracked leopard than any one I know.
Terry Palmer with Johan Calitz safaris in Botswana.
And what list is not complete without Harry Selby
These are all dangerous game PH's with vast experience and are true professionals.
