I don't know... I think I kinda like the lederhosen. Very festive in an "Oktoberfest" sort of way. Big Grin

But, this thread is supposed to be about tattoos and piercings. I'm sure it's the dirndls and NOT the lederhosen that caught your eye and got you off topic. Well, maybe the beer/dirndl combo. Lol!

Focus back....

My only tattoo is a tribute to my father who passed when I was only 25 years old.

It is on my wrist and is his full name placed like a braclet so I can see it every day and remember what a great man he was.

That's very nice, Ted. A tasteful remembrance of your father, which I'm sure he'd be quite proud of.

I am not a tattoo person , but I do respect eveyone's right to their opinion is that not what our armed forces are fighting for!

I have sat back and watched this whole thing unfold, I can and will say, I respect Ted and will , we have done a deal and it was great, it is a free world we live in and his tribute to his Father is great and I respect him!

Sam reason I respect all tattoos I see that have a memory. My wife's have a memory and reason, and are very hidden in outrageously perfect locations!

I see Vets and those who have other stories such as yours that DEMAND respect too. I have diluted that with hot photos of women on here, but I have not lost that cause!

Don't see why one person would care if someone else wants a tat or piercing. In my opinion, it's none of their business.

In theory, I agree with you. All of my five kids have tats (I don't know where I went wrong, I blame it on their mother...), but all of them have them where they can be covered with clothing.

What I object to is those that have facial tats, or multiple facial piercings and cop an attitude when you look at them!!! I mean, if you're going to walk around looking like you just nose-dived into a tackle box or had someone draw all over you with a magic marker, don't piss and moan when people stare at you!

I also have a problem with those idiots that don't have a job, aren't seeking a job, don't have two nickles to rub together, and complain that they can't get a job that's "worth their time." And even though these mental giants can't pay their rent, always seem to find enough money to buy more ink!

But that's just my take on the subject...

Personally, I've never found an image that I care enough about to go through the pain and expense, nor would I want that for the rest of my life.

Is skin color a choice? How about the tramp stamp...... a choice? Roll Eyes

This is a simple matter actually...if you do not like tattoos/piercings, then why look?

Choice, yup!

But then again you choose to click and look at something you do not like on your free time so I am unsure who is the bigger dumb-ass?

Once again, we're back to that whole facial tattooing and piercing. How can you see someone and not see that they have facial "artwork" that makes them look like a Maori tribesman???

I have read through this thread with fascination and more than a little enjoyment. I like a good laugh as much as the next fellow and I certainly enjoy seeing an attractive female, tattooed/pierced or not. I have often said that pretty girls are one of Gods greatest and finest creations and I, for one, appreciate His good work. But that isn't exactly what I would like to point out here.
Reading this thread has been a real education, to say the least. It is easy to see the two very separated schools of thought here. I didn't however, appreciate the strength of feelings, until reading this. It seems that you are either very pro tattooing/piercing or posses a strong hatred for those who are tattooed. I don't read many posts from those who are truly neutral.
At the risk of leaving myself open to attack from those who disapprove, allow me to clearly state my position; which should be clear enough from the fact I am myself tattooed.
To the contrary of what so many would seem to automatically expect, I am educated, financially secure and disease free. I can assure everyone that I am NOT AT ALL the ignorant, poor disgusting, over weight beer swilling slob who wears dirty and stained sleeveless undershirts to display a puss filled pimple ridden body covered in tattoos. I am not a member of any cowardly hate spewing "secret society" nor a certain "brotherhood".
I guess what I am, perhaps poorly, attempting to illustrate here, is the fact it is not only unfair and incorrect to make assumptions about someone based upon a tattoo; it is actually likely to show said judgmental persons ignorance.
Furthermore, tattoos, like so many other things, are a item where an individual must make a concious decision to use them in an appropriate manner. For example, someone might use their computer for work or to communicate with friends. The same person has the potential to use the same computer to commit identy theft or computer fraud. A person can use a gun to hunt or defend his family, or to rob a bank.
In the same manner, a person can use the medium of tattoos to display hatred, such as the Neo Nazis and the Arayan Brotherhood. And many do so. On the other hand they might just as readily commemorate a loved ones passing or display their love for their wife or their children. Many do this as well. Still yet, a tattoo need not be such a serious subject, perhaps someone just wants to show off their personality or their artistic side.
My point, ultimately, is that this is an issue that in not so black and white, if you might excuse the irony of that statement. It is patently wrong to judge a person a degenerate menace to society, based solely on their being tattooed or not.
I strongly urge those who would be judges, jury and executioners to be more openminded and less judgmental. To those who are or would be tattooed to forgive those so eager to judge.
In the end, people are people, no matter where you go. And there are good and bad people in every group.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And to each his own! Last time I looked this is still the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. It's your body, your canvas. Go for it!

That being said, I think Jimmy Buffett has my thoughts on this. " A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling!"

There are a lot of other ways to "express yourself" without resorting to a tattoo.

Sometimes tattoos really mean something. Mine is definitely a multitasker. It's a coping mechanism of sorts, a cover up, & a form of self expression. Not a temporary feeling. Not something to resort to. I chose this pain that I have control over to help hide the pain I had no control over.

Joe South said it great:
"Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes
Now your whole world you see around you is just a reflection
And the law of common says you're gonna reap just what you sow
So unless you've lived a life of total perfection
You'd better be careful of every stone that you should throw -yeh-heh
And yet we spend the day throwin' stones at one another."

I love tattoo's!

Step daughter, who is in college, wanted one for her 18th birthday. I told her that while she was on my dime that I would allow it.
Miss sunshine turned 18 and got one anyway.

So this semester she had to apply for a college loan.
And she thought that tat was expensive! LOL
