New Feinstein Bill Targets Muzzle Energy

Dianne Feinstein and her friends are at it again! The California senator has introduced S.1331, the "Long-Range Sniper Rifle Safety Act of 2007" which would classify .50 BMG caliber rifles as "destructive devices" under the National Firearms Act, requiring registration when purchased or sold.

However, a new "copycat" provision has been added that also prohibits any firearm, regardless of caliber, that develops 12,000 foot-pounds of energy or more. Accordingly, S.1331 will affect many more firearms than those chambered in .50 BMG. Another key difference is that owners are given 7 years to register their rifles instead of the more typical weeks or months seen in other attempts.

Feinstein claims "This legislation doesn't ban any firearms; it would only institute common-sense regulations for the sale of these dangerous sniper rifles." However, as several states already prohibit ownership of Title II firearms (even if legally registered with the BATFE), S1331 will certainly result in the banning of many personal firearms.

The list of co-sponsors for S.1331 reads like a "Who's Who of Gun Control", including Senators Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), Carl Levin (D-Mi), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), and Frank Lautenberg (D- N.J.)

The Fifty Caliber Institute strongly opposes S.1331 and suggests gun-owners immediately email, call, or fax the members of the U.S. Senate and urge opposition to this onerous legislation.

How many .50 caliber anything has been used in a crime? Enquiring minds want to know. I know it's the favorite weapon used by thugs to rob markets and banks...yeah right. And when was the last time anyone used a .458 in a bank heist? That Sin-nit crowd belongs in the Circus, cause they're damn sure entertaining...to the Monkeys.

What is the energy generated by a 5000 pound vehicle with 25 gallons of gasoline going 75 miles per hour?

Now, I do recall an erstwhile terror supporter using an SUV to try to kill people at the University of North Carolina.

I also recall 19 people using Home Depot purchases to kill 3000 people. What's that, a kill rate of about 150 kills per boxcutter?

And the death rate recently for 50 cal? Zero. Rifles over 40 cal? Zero.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the driving logic for a weapons ban based on "energy"? Or a firearm ban at all?

The liberals like dear Dianne want to believe our Constitution is a menu. Take what you want. Unfortunately for her, it is not. And the restrictions she places on the Second Amendment, are restrictions that will fly for all other Amendments - speech, religion, privacy, search, seizure, etc. We have a great Country, and you take our Constitution as the supreme law, warts and all.

In other words, Dianne wants to toss the Constitution. I am sure many European countries would welcome her insight. They are not bound by those pesky rights that serve as the cornerstone of our government.

What a pickle. I had contemplated saving up for an AR50, but now I might have to get a 416 barrett. Wait, what KE does that make? Mad Well, there is always the .510 whisper, or when Jeffe gets the .500 AR up and running...

These rifles are so dangerous that not a single person has been killed with them! She should do something safe, like write a military contract for one of her husband's companies. Hopefully she will be gone soon for her conflict of interest cases. I don't know if anyone here saw it, but a while back they had the owner of Barrett rifles on TV. The LAPD chief came out backing a .50 cal. ban publicly, then had a couple of the LAPD's rifles sent to Barret for some tweaking. He came out and said plain and simple that it would be a cold day in hell before he worked on any of their rifles after they tried to bankrupt his business with their legislation.

I think it's pretty plain to see what this law is all about.

Put your self in Feinstein's head for a moment... (Hold your nose, No one said this was gonna be easy)

1. You've got 24 hour Secret Service protection
2. You travel in armored vehicles.
3. Every time you show your face in public, your SS boys have set up a 1/4 mile secure perimeter.
4. Your girdle is made of very expensive French kevlar.

Now where are you vulnerable ???????

One skilled guy at 2000 meters

This law is to insure security for 10 or 12 "Special People", while they dismantle the second amendment.

Barrett will no longer sell his rifles to any Kalifornia law enforcement agency, and hasn't for quite some time.

The consequenses of Hillary or Obama inhabiting the white house are too terrifying to contemplate. Vote Republican for survival. It's that simple.

American's watch out, here in Australia we have been bent over and f#@cked up the arse by politicians .
You cannot own a pistol with a barrel length shorter than 120mm and you can't have a magazine capacity of over ten rounds. Your only allowed to own 9mm/38 and under in calibre unless you have special permission in which case anything over .45 is banned. .40S&W is also a banned calibre. You cannot own semi automatic rifles or shotguns. You cannot own pump action shotguns. 50cal rifles are banned also. The future is not looking good. All this accomplished is banning the use of these firarms by licenced registed shooters trying to do the right thing. Criminals still have there guns.
Here it takes 8 months to get a handgun licence, then you can only have 1 centrefire pistol and 1 air pistol in the first year.
I went to buy a glock 19 the other day and you can't have that because it's barrel is less than 120mm, classed as "too concealable". So I said I'll have a glock 17, sorry that's less 120mm also. So I had to buy a glock 17A with an extra 10mm of barrel length sticking out.
If you guys don't act now you end up like us Aussies, screwed......

I had no idea it was that bad! What about rimfire semi-autos?
What has happened to the crime rate in the wake of all this "gun control"?
You have our sympathy.
Maybe they're trying to discourage immigration.. Confused
Who let them do this to you. I always thought the Aussies were an intelligent population. We like your "Prez" up here in the US. He doesn't seem like the type to go along with that nonsense???

John Howard inflicicted us with this gun control crap. They used the Port Arthur massacre as an excuse to ban nearly everything. Yes even semi auto .22 calibre rifles are banned. Being a shooter/hunter in Australia really blows...
You Americans have it really good at the moment compared to us. It's done nothing for the crime rate. A few less people commit suicide with guns, but the suicide rate hasn't dropped. Criminals didn't hand there guns in....
