So if we can avoid senseless arguments , other than the ones I want to start myself . So I am interested in building a 500 AR . there have been lots of great other wildcats I have considered and still am . The BM line will be next IF I can figure out which one . The rifle I want to build will be along the line of the BM execpt it will built on a standard magnum Ruger M77 mk II stainless .. Similar to Safari Kids 500 Jeffrie . Again execpt in Stainless and Ruger action. As I won,t be shooting any bullets heavier than 600 gr what is the best twist for the 500 AR in an 18" barrel ?? .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I'd love to see AHR make a drop belly for the Ruger MKII and sell complete rifles in 500 AR. Just need to add an H in the middle to make AHR then do the 458 AR too 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

I can thank Nick Ak. for putting the new big bore bug back in gear . His 470 Mbogo is awesome . but I,m after something with simular killing power but in a smaller rifle . . A good skiff gun . Something as Tough as a 2100 Husky . I,ll name it Spruce King 2 . .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

I have short fingers and want to stay with the standard size of the Ruger . I can hold the whole thing in my hand when packin it around . If it holds 2 rounds in the mag. that is ok . I will prolly go with an 18.5" brl after thinking about it . Room for the integral muzzle brake and no troubles at the border . .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Gumboot458- I am building a 500 AR on a SS Ruger M77 action (a new Hawkeye Alaskan). I will have a 21" Border Barrel on mine with a twistrate of 1-10". Will use a Laminate stock from Accurate Innovations. Weight will be max 8 ibs. I want a 1-10" twist because they will give better stability to long monolithic solids (570 - 600 grs) My gunsmith is making a custom bottom metal for this rifle, so it will be able to take 3 down...

thanks for considering the 500 my advice is to get the action and send it over to mcgowen. they have my reamers and feeding dummies.. the CZ heavy profile is actually pretty light.. and a 1:10 twist... why fast twist? the case is not overbore (long boring discussion) which means faster twist won't loss as many FPS in a shorter barrel. i think head truma, here, has a set of dies he'd be willing to part with. if not, i'll have some more in the next couple weeks Micheal's rounds are also great rounds .. no reason to preclude them, in a 308 length action ... we designed, in parallel, series that do simular things, but his are shorter, to fit in the shorter actions.. basically, the AccRels matching their corrosponding longer rounds, but in standard actions. If not match (the 500 does NOT beat the 500a2, the only example) they do reach critical power levels, meeting the accepted threshold Danny Pedderson told me that, in the 510 wells, anything longer than 19 or 20 inches was all about the customer's desire, rather than need. would be interesting to see the effects of a shorter barrel good luck jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? McGowen did the feeding on mine and its 100% with woodleigh 600gr PP. It feeds great fast or slow. When I mean fast I mean; I shot at a pig the other day at 130 yards and the shot went low, it was a 608gr APIT, the APIT flash banged right beneath its front legs, the pig ran for the hills, I shucked that 500 empty about 15 feet and got another shot off in less than 2 seconds, I even impressed myself, I missed that 2nd shot too though. However, the point is you can work a bolt fast and slow sitting in front of the TV but only until you are REALLY shooting at something do you give that rifle a good work out. Up until then I've only needed one shot. I've got some cast bullets loaded up now that are more flat nosed, so far they feed fine in front of the TV. I've done brass by getting some hornady 416 rigby, prime it, dump in 25gr of blue dot, a cotton wad, and seat and empty 30-30 case flush to the rigby case mouth (finally a use for a 30-30), fire them, watch out those 30-30 cases are pretty amazing, I could get them to stick several inches into a fence post! Anneal, trim them to length, then load and shoot.

No Nick . She has been talking about me not doing anything but work and was glad when I took a day to hunt . . For 1 season she was my bear watch in Southeast . I made up a load for he SpruceKing with the 300 gr X bullet @ 2500 fps . she could handle it ok . PTaylor .that is an awesome use for a 30/30 case . ... One time I had a bunch of 375 H+H reloads left over and I needed some 458 Lott brass .. So I just shot them in my lott . . they were loaded w/a270 gr Hornady and 414 powder . they fire formed great but some of them had some unburned powder marks on the outside of the neck and mouth of the case . a little sooty also . only a couple split the necks .. I cleaned them up , anealed then and loaded them up . still have most of them .. I was shooting at a 18" block of hemlock . those 375 bullets tore that round of firewood up pretty well ,. I was amazed I was hitting it as it was about 80 yards away . . . .I called McGowan today and found out they will do custom contours . I want the rear sight , under barrel recoil lug , front sling eye and front sight base to be integral . I hate it when stuff that is bolted on breaks off . . . A skiff gun HASto be TOUGH ...... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Sounds like it would be an awesome project. Integral recoil lug, sight, swivel... Tough to break, tough to build! It'd be worth it. Can't wait to see it! -Nick

I did some checking and it seems theres no problem crossing iin and out of Canada with the 500 AR . I need to talk to McGowan some more about the integral parts on the barrel but I thing the cost will be similar to buying the parts and having them put on . I may be wrong . If so I will just have the rear sight and u b recoil lug be integral . have a sling band and banded fore sight put on . I need to check out Brockmans about stocks . .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

They can do the rear island, like a CZ, as they do the CZ barrels for the safari classics opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
