Topic for discussion.

It seems the new classification of "Overkill" cartridges has become popular...

Question...Should there be a board for "Overkill" cartridges?

What is an "Overkill" cartridge?

How do you define an Overkill cart?

I think an "Overkill" cart is one that has transcended stoping DG to droping the Hammer of Thor on it or for Sport Shooters who want to test their extent of recoil tollerance.

A brief history of "Overkill" carts would be interesting considering most of them post here.

Can someone post a chronology of these beastly carts? I know Dan did one but it was a combo of big bores and "overkills" but it needs to be updated.

Nyati, Overkill, T-Rex, 550 Magnum, Express and Gibbs, 12GFH, AHR carts ect.

The mentality of an Overkill shooter is different I think. They are not the hard core extended pinky crowd.

I used to think the 500 Nitro was the pinacle of big bores but now I kinda see it as a medium big bore.

Yes there were 8, 4 and 2 bore rifles but they were intended as stopper/hunters or just plain trophies themselves.

There will be no separate board for the "Overkill" cartridges.

If you'd like to create a web site for such a thing, please feel free to do so.

I think overkill is a big bullet moving faster than traditional velocities like the 2400ish range. A megabore can be traditional like the 4 bore.

Exactly the same state of mind as owning fast cars. You don't need a corvette to go 65 MPH. If you want to be just like everybody else there is the good ol Prius! I don't want to be like everybody else and I don't own a prius! My taste in cars is consistent with my taste in Guns. Mo Horsepower is good. Stay tuned for my new book which is the defining term in this area entitled Guns,Cars,Women and Booze a treatise on wretched excess and a must read for all Overkill afficianados.-Rob

No such thing as overkill unless you go beyond reality and shoot a 20 MM.....

This big bore business should be based on how much recoil one can handle without consideration...My limit is about a 416 or 458 Win....

If I could carry and shoot a 600 N.E. then I probably would do just that..however I have never had a problem killing any animal with a 416 or a 375 or even the lowly 9.3x62 for that matter. Most folks would be better off knowing their limits as opposed to surmising them..

I would be confident standing a charge with any of the above mid level cartridges..

You've finally explained the overkill mania in a way that I can understand it!

Naw ... don't need this to do 65:

but it is a visceral experience to go WAY beyond the normal limits Wink

And then there is "identifiable only by DNA..." Which is where the overkill series is probably heading...

Ah-I see I have many kindred spirits in the big Gun, fast car, Mortar and CANNON CROWD that exists here. Too bad we can't blow stuff up anymore, I CERTAINLY did my share of that TOO. I WILL DEVOTE A CHAPTER ON THAT TOPIC IN MY NEW BOOK ALTHOUGH IN THE INTEREST of the common good I WILL be forced to leave out the details. Overkill is a great state of Mind. dancing -Rob
