"Bolt action rifle "The Sculpture"

caliber 500 Jeffrey

Bolt action rifle in caliber 500 Jeffrey, the most powerful caliber in the world for a bolt action rifle with 10,000 kg impact energy.

Unique creation: Finest big game scenes in steel cut engraving with focussed, concentrated view alternate with animals of the Savannah engraved in 24 carat massive gold in relief, with three dimensional steel carvings on top, all created by one master engraver.

It is very rare that one single engraver is a master in many engraving techniques. The engraver that created this masterpiece believes in Peter Hofer's ideals and followed his vision to create this absolutely realistic and plastic three dimensional engraving. This engraving technique is called steel cut and only a handful of engravers in the world are still capable of this technique, it is the crowning glory.

A unique bolt action rifle such as the world has never seen before.

Personally, I feel that the snake shaped bolt handle and croc + hippo squarebridges is taking it rather too far. And brings to mind that over-engraved Blaser doublerifle made for the UAE minister (Hamad?). Kind of like a rifle version of MTVs "Pimp my ride"...

But still, it's definately unusual and interesting.

Peter Hofer is one of the absolute best craftsmen on earth, plus he is a brilliant artist.

That rifle is not for hunting, or even firing, at all, although it undoubtedly could be used in the field to good effect. It can only be appreciated as a work of art.

Thanks for posting these, Erik.

I'm a bit undecided. The artist is indeed spectacular and the work is magnificient.

This has to rate a two thumbs up regardless if it might be a bit much for some tastes.

Amazing craftsmanship and he must have a hell of a lot of time into it, but a little gawdy, I do like the snake bolt handle though!

I could find room for this one in my gun vault as well, even if it is a bit striking for my personal taste. I am aware of the trememdous ME of the 500, but 10,000Kg = 22,000ft lbs of ME...the recoil must be something else...?

Or, did I miss something in the trnslation?

regards,

Rich

Impact energy must mean something besides regular muzzle energy in ft. lbs. I certainly have never heard of a 500 Jeffrey load with anywhere near 20000 ft. lbs. Usualy around 6700 ft.lbs for a 500 Jef. ????

Alf,

That DR really is a sweetheart isn't she. She weighs 2.2 pounds. Must be amazing just to hold her let alone be able to shoot her. Stunning is right.

I briefly owned, back in the late 'seventies, a WR field grade double in 22 Hornet. Just a bit of scroll engraving, and a grip cap with three inlaid gold initials. World's finest (bar none) small game rifle. Leaves out to 300yds, a bit of a stretch.

The rimfire is really nice. I have a three year old grandson that would love to have this rifle to replace his Chipmunk.

regards,

Rich

Wow,

That DR is a wonder to behold. I can only imagine the skill that is required to create such a gun.

If I ever hit the lottery, I know who to call for a bespoke pair.

It probably won't ever be used, but that long pointed tang inletted that tight might work like a splitting wedge when you fire one of those .500's! I know if I were stocking a big bore, I'd want a little space behind the tang.
