What? Who else has sinned the cardinal sin of bore envy? animal

This could turn into the makings of a list of the "Seven Deadly Sins of the DGR" by Rabbi Rip of the Newish Unorthodox Templars, to be appended to the "Ten Commandments."

The righteous NUTs are circumcized of their boreskins.

Anyone shooting loads of greater than 500 to 600 grains is just not getting it often enough. animal

DGR rifles are just like boobs...anything you can't get in your hand or mouth is a waste...but my, oh my, what unbridled joy there lies in wretched excess...either one or both!

I am having great fun with wretched
excess, in the wildcating realm.
I don't know if a body could stand it, if
Partonesque excess affected other interest
in my life....But I'd try....Ed

I hear this argument and others like it 6 days a week(I'm closed on sundays). The bottom line is, "What does need have to do with it?". This is America the land of excess. If you can afford it you can own it. I see nothing wrong with this attitude. Why do you need a Harley, corvette, a house with more than 2 rooms, and I could go on and on. I love this place, if you can dream it up and pay for it, someone will make it for you. Ain't it cool. You buy a 600 or 700N.E. and go out and shoot it, and enjoy your dislocated shoulder with the rest of us. We ain't hurtin no-one we're just having fun.

Brian1,

I hear you, and if you read my first post you can see that i also agree. Land of the free, home of the brave, spend your mony as you wish and have fun!
But my question was, what is enough gun on the hunt, not on the range.

One man feels perfectly at ease with his .450 No.2, while another feels completely undergunned with a .470NE. So it is all personal preferences.

So I'll guess I'll just read the old books of John Taylor again, and pick the biggest of the ones he recomend that I can manage.

any fool can make a bigger rifle. I think you are a whimp if you don't shoot a 50 BMg in a sporting rifle of say 10-12 lbs. and no muzzle brake. No problem. If that is your joke or dream go for it. In the real world of hunting anything over 500 gr. is more than needed for the job. We are well beyond needs most of us anyway so that is not the issue. There are guys here that run around in tanks and personel carriers playing army. I think that is fine but let us not loose sight of the fact that this a sporting forum not a military forum and when speaking of Big Bore Rifles we are referring to sporting arms that can be taken against game animals. Try exporting your 20MM Russion antitank rifle to Africa to hunt Elephant.NOT!

Frankly- We need to redefine big bores as .50 cal and Over. That would simpify all the confusion and keep the 45-70 folks at bay.-Rob

A big amen to the 45-70ers. I don't feel undergunned with my .416 Rigby or my 375 H&H. I would entertain a bigger gun but not until next year. I can only afford one double at a time.

No BS there is an Anesthesiologist here that had a full army of vehicles that he used to play with on weekends. The tank had a barrel but it had been made inoperable with filling with something. He would drive around with the 50 BMG firing at single shot and create a real mess. When he died the tank went to the WW 2 Memorial and all of that stuff stopped. He had at least 50 Class III weapons to play with. I never went with him to his property but did fire his MP5 several times. Now that is fun. Not accurate but fun.

No, jeffe, just no more than one cup size bigger than SD .300, with monometal banded copper FN solids, and monometal banded copper hollowpoint softs. Nice knockers!

500/505/510 calibers are more than enough for any sporting use.

lb404's 540 grain FN solids in the 500 Jeffery would be JUST RIGHT. All he needs to do is open up his bolt face and get the full diameter rim for his brass and he will be RIGHTEOUS. thumb
