I shot this rifle once, and it was enough. Rich shot it about twelve times that day and I have no idea how many times the day before. They make them Idaho fellas tough.

This was an interesting shot. I think this fellow figured he had killed enough animals and it was time to unload.

Heck of a nice guy but my brain damage from shooting ISS's cannon doesn't allow me to remember his name Roll Eyes.

Pegleg & Shootaway,

did I miss you at the Hoot-n-Shoot? Cumulative recoil I expect. You probably don't own anything bigger than an '06 so recoil isn't a factor for you. Pegleg, you can consider this an open invitation to come over to Nampa, and show me how to handle the 550; or send me your address and I'll bring it over for you to shoot this spring. Shootaway, we are doing this again in Montana June 7th. Jet down and show me what you got.
I may have it checkered by time June rolls around, one of the guys that DID make it to Houston told me checkering the forend and grip help you hold onto it better.

regards to the lap dogs,

Rich

I get the impression these guys are just havin' some good natured fun at your expense, Rich. I don't think any harm was intended (well, all but Shootaway anyway). Wink

Anyhoo, I hope to meet you and take your 550 for a whirl in MT on June 7. Its a shortish drive from here. I truly wish I could bring my 500 A2 and 470 Mbogo for people to play with, but getting a permit from the BATF is not on without much more notice than this (rrrrgggh). So I'll be freeloading shots, but hope to make up for that somehow.

Cheers,

I did have a 90mm ricky-rifle once upon a time. OP George, September 12th and 13th, 1971.

I am looking forward to Montana already, and the chance to "share" the rifle. The 550 is going to get checkered, and closer to finished. I thought putting a couple of rounds in each pocket would help...I guess the weight has to be in the rifle to do that. I expect we will see if the two nit-pickers show up and want a magazine full, eh?

That little rifle dropping the mag is a 500 Cyrus in a 6 1/2 pound package. This is a very stout chambering with more than enough power for another jurassic age. The beast was built on a savage action with detatchable magazine. Concerning the release of the magazine I'm not exactly sure if my hand bumped the release under recoil or the forces from recoil could have caused it to fall, but I wouldn't mind shooting it more to find out. Rodney.

Hey, one of the neatest things is Idaho catches his rifle every single time after each shot. It's kind of like the guys shooting Martini .577-450s who catch the empty in their shirt pocket ... clap
Rich, you're a better man than I to shoot a rifle that big, and my hat is off. Hell, I'd be honored just to come to Montana and watch.

Like Keith said, it's the equivalent of shooting two Lotts at once. Y'all just come up to Montana and join the Whomper Club in June.

The best part: Hogkiller shot my rifle like it was his Lott. He and Jeffe and Rodney are in the Club, as is Boomie; who is the fourth member behind myself, my #1 nephew and TMC. Boomie shot it and asked how many rounds I had brought.

Canuck, I think that the Lott would be the minimum for the Whomper list. The 470 Mbogo and up, really defines a Whomper.

As for my list of calibers shot, I owe it all to the generousity of fellow AR's, lettiing me "dance with their fat girls"(they always lead). lol

My Lott, is the only one of my own I have so far.

I would agree with 458 Lott as the minimum requirement for membership. The deal is that you have to have fired it without dropping the rifle and have hit the target.
