THE SAD FACE IS THAT THE ORDERS SEEM TO BE STUCK AT 350...AS YOU KNOW THEY ARE REQUIRING 400 TO START PRODUCTION.

http://www.montanarifleman.com/

i think the last order drive tapped us out at a.r. if i am wrong please place an order and post here with that news.

there might be more out there who need a monster size action...

you only pay when it is shipped, no deposit required.

tell them they need to run with 350, and let all of us who ordered get rifles built and spread the word. JMHO, but too many folks are gunshy (I know, I know, verrrry bad pun) and want to at least get a good look at the action before laying out the cash.

Again, just my humble opinion...

Boomy, I'm even more surprised that they can't get a minimum quantity ordered for the mini action.

One of their actions scaled like a mini mauser or Sako L-461 should sell like hot cakes I would think......,

While I have my name in for a PH action, I'd be likely to sign up for a few of the mini's

Just to refresh the memory, they are waiting to sell 400 righties, and 400 lefties before they start production? The website shows a total of over 400 right now if you add the two together. Man, I am still tempted to ask the wife to put money down on it for me for Christmas. She might not like the fact that I might have to wait till Christmas next year to get only an action. Then I could ask Santa next year for a nice piece of wood and a barrel to go with it!

The way I understand it is they need 400 right handed actions spoke for then they will run the right handed ones same for the left. She won't need any money to get your name on the list just a phone call will do it! When they start the run then you will need some cash.

It has only taken 2 years to get to 350 righties on order. Lets see...right now they have 90 some odd lefties in 2 years...average of 45 per year...that makes it approx. another 7 years until the lefties start production...Great!

This may be a dumb idea, but if there are 400 actions sold at $525 ea. (I think that was the oringal price) that comes out to $210,000. Now if the 350 who have already committed to buy the actions would agree to pay $600 each for them, then the total would be $210,000.
Not knowing the business well, there may be a reason for the number of 400 needed, but it is a matter of the capital, then it seems it could be done for $75 more per action, per person.
I have no dog in this fight, haven't put my name on the list, just wanted to get this thought out there.

it will be hard to get all 350 to commit though Frowner

they need 400 rights before production. after production i think the lefties will pick up in orders imho

There sure is. Once they give the green light, they'll take deposits from the people who signed up for an action (I'm one of those people).

This way the consumer will be flipping the bill for the initial tooling costs of the actions. That sucks, IMHO, because it gives me the impression that they don't believe in the action nor willing to put out any of their own money to get this item to market.

Yet still I have one on order.

I have been following this situation on AR here for a while. I do not own a MRC action, but have thougth quite often about it. I would only be looking for a long action magnum, so the PH does not appeal to me. But, I am starting to worry for you guys that if they need 400 and have taken two years to get 350, I would have to bet that during those two years, some of those 350 have changed their minds. POssibly even died by now. Who knows. I agree with the comment above about being creative with price or something if they are that important, its a small price to pay to avoid a problem like maybe another year from now when somebody says " well we had 350, and now 50 more..... Oooops, 100 backed out, so we need another hundred"

Just a few thoughts.

I've had two on order for quite a while. In fact it has been so long I think I've changed my mind at least dozen times about what I want to put on them (505 Gibbs on one). I would consider paying $600 for each of them. I still think it would be a good deal. Thinking about ordering a long action to put a 470 Capstick on to keep me busy until the PH actions are ready.

I also have two on order: 550 and 510 Gibbs I think. If they drag this out long enough I may have to just do a switch barrel on one of my M30's and let it go. Would hate to have that happen, but if they can't figure out that it is just as easy to go with 350 and get $75 more per...what can I say to change their minds?
Boomie, shoot them the +$75 and get rolling idea and report back when they give you and answer, please.

I've been waiting since about the fifty-ith something order and have changed my order concerning the bolt face/ cartridge specs because I did not want to wait any longer for the rifle I intended to have biult on this action! I would go an extra 75 bucks to get it sooner! Think the credit card I've got it reserved on has had the number changed. My updated order is for the 550! Just hope that this action comes out nicer than olympic arm's big bauska action, it was a little rough.

call them, and tell them to make a 3R+1L hand mold. or, better still, a 2r and a 1r/1L mold, and then they can get to 400, get them in the market, and get them running, and actually HAVE product on the market to sell the next run.

the 2xR ,and 1xr, 1xL will allow them to make as many of which hand they want.

I am getting to the point where monatana's obstenance is STUPID and I am loosing faith in them bringing this to market..

hell, I've been waiting for a PH for about as long as I have for a spartan... and the spartan will be in ours hands in a couple months

The optimism in this thread is almost more than I can bare! It would have helped MRC very much if they could have had some finished RCVRS to check out because we are in way investing are word in purchesing a product that has'nt been manufactured yet! But I trust that it will be what MRC advertises and therefor I wait. Rodney H.

"the sales rep said the main guy has his mind set up on the 400 mark...

I don't claim to be a business genius, but this seems like stupidity to me. The idea, at least in my opinion, of business is to MAKE money. You do this by SUPPLYING what the customer wants. Now as I said in an earlier post, if everyone who wants one, 350 or so at last count, would pay a little extra, you would reach the cash amount of $210,000, matching that of 400 sold at the lesser price.
Obviously, if MRC can make a profit at $210,000 for 400,they will actually make MORE profit making 350 actions for $210,000, since their material cost will be LESS. Think about it, if I offer 100 rounds of loaded ammo to you for $200 and you insist on paying me $200, but will only take 75 rounds, seems like I would be able to sell those other 25 rounds for pure profit...but again I may be an idiot thinking like this.
Too bad stubborness seems to be a major road block into making several hundred people into satisfied customers.

They told me, that to get a run going was
60-80,000 dollars. After seeing prices on another project i understand that. But if
they'd make barrel thread a little bigger maybe bolt too, I'd pay couple hundred more and
at 350 orders they do fine. as that start
wouldn't be affected by thrad changes. This action has potential to bridge the size gap
between CZ/Ruger and McBros bmg, and once they were going and word got around they couldn't
make them fast enough. We have dozens of
companies making one basic magnum size actions,
and none in between that is affordable.Ed

I certainly would be interested, but unless I am wrong, their PH action is something new and they can't show us what a production model looks like.

In fact, I just went to their site under "actions". Looks like they are having "backorder" issues with their 1999 actions, and the "estimated" production date for the PH actions is LATE 2007. In sales terms, that means 2008.

The 400 number sounds like a figure for what is needed to fund getting their line up and running. And with the backorder situation they have on other actions, they are probably in no hurry to get the PH into production. It sounds like they have more than enough business right now without the PH.

Based on their past numbers, they can't expect to sell a lot of these a year once the initial order is filled. Maybe 25 to 50?

These guys have a good reputation in the industry, and the last thing they need is to go out with something too quickly and have it blow up in someone's face or have it fail giving some dangerous game a free bite or stomp.

I certainly could be wrong, but I think even if we got to 400 commitments here, it would not change their timeline.

Personally, I think their entire company's credibility is at stake with this PH situation. As Boomie has suggested, 350 X$600 is the same number as 400 x $525...leaving no reason not to notify us that they will work off of either number. IF they tell me that offering to bump the price by a measly $75 won't work, then I am going to go elsewhere. There are still a lot of M30's and P17's available. But, they can count on me to tell anybody who asks where the company is as far as ethics and honesty and dependability. They asked for enough orders to generate $210,000. That number is not the issue anymore...credibility is. Just prove me wrong MRC...that's all I ask.
