Hornady is coming out with two new loads for the .416 Rigby. A 400 gr. FMJ RN and a 400 gr. IB load. Has anyone seen or tried either of these yet? Wonder what they are going to be selling for? Lawdog

If true, this is great news for .416 Rigby fans, but, where is Federal's promised .404 Jeffery load?

I don't own a .416 Rigby nor do I any longer care for one all that much but I would like a .404 and as far as I can tell the only .404 factory ammo is from RWS.

With both Nosler and Hornady loading the Rigby it should become popular up here in the 49th state. I have been playing with a new Empire rifle in 416 as well as my CZ and plan on using it next bear season in place of old ugly. All these experts telling me how ineffective my old 458 is has got me wondering how I survived all these years. A new 416 Rigby should remedy that. Especially with the new Hornady 400 gr RN interbond.

Phil some friends of mine were playing with a .458 and couldn't believe the potency of the "little" cartridge. They shot 60 yards, through a 2 foot poplar and heard a splash in the lake about another 70 yards behind the tree! Yeah, I agree, how did you ever survive shooting such a deplorable "little" cartridge? Cool

Just lucky I guess. As Finn Aagaard put it, a 500 grain 45 caliber bullet at 2000fps puts a bloody big hole in whatever it hits.
I expect a 400 gr .416 bullet at 2300 fps should as well.

Once can currently get HSM to load .416 ammo with Hornady components. I suspect this would save the .416 shooter a few dollars for virtually identical ammunition. I use HSM for my .416 Rem and it works just fine.

.404 Amunition is also made by Kynamco (Kynoch) who offer it for sale in the US via Conneticut Shotgun Manufacturing (galazan@aol.com).

Both soft nosed and solid are offered using the Woodeligh bullets

I'm assuming that is a serious question.....and the answer is....Joyce Hornady.

He died in a plane crash in 1981 and is still "the man" at Hornady.

Phil!

Seems like you already have a tried and true friend in 458 Win. I sure don't question the caliber for bears. It is only on elephant that I want the little more penetration that the Lott offers.

Trust me, the .458 WM loaded with a reputable solid of 500 gr. at 2100-2150 fps will penetrate well enough to kill any elephant on earth! These velocities are easily achievable with today's powders.

Boom Stick has it exactly right.

As the price comes down on .416 Rigby and those of us regular people can afford the ammo it won't be cool anymore to the "in crowd".

Next Remington will offer a "dreaded and notoriously useless" model 700 chambered for it and the elitists will start proclaiming that there is NO WAY it would ever kill a dangerous animal.

Give that way of thought another couple years and people will be claiming no animals were ever killed by it. Wink

Now if we could only get Hornday to load .505 Gibbs ammo...

In fact, I will issue an open challenge. If Remington will start building the Model 700 in .505 Gibbs as a production item, I will buy one. wave

It's a challenge. You get Rem to build the rifles as a production item, and I will buy one.

Didn't say I would actually hunt with it.

It's about time! I am also interested in Jeffeosso's experience with the 215 primers. I certainly don't have any problem in already fired brass, at least getting them into the primer pockets that is. I'm starting to think that my CZ in 416 Rigby was a wise decision and not an irrational impulse buy.
