Nice rifles Jeffe.. Dies arrived 2day ![]() By the way - I have a rifle on hand, an old BRNO ZKK 600 ( see http://www.fritidvildmarksliv....rno_zkk600_9102.html and click on the small photos to get an impression of the aperture sight solution) , one of the first ones with an aperture sight builded in the rear bridge as a "pop up" solution.. A genious solution in my thinking.. Anyone out there who have experience with these early ZKK`s???

That 500 ar is a classic working stock layout. Good recoil relief with a wide butt and proper comb.It should handle recoil real well. JD DRSS 9.3X74 tika 512 9.3X74 SXS Merkel 140 in 470 Nitro

Bakes, here's a pic of some of my guns. The top 2 are big bores, (a .450 Rigby and a 9.3x64), the third one from above a 8x68, and the stock design on all three ,makes the recoil very tolareble. ![]() Karl Stumpfe Ndumo Hunting Safaris www.huntingsafaris.net karl@huntingsafaris.net P.O. I took some "better" pics at the range today. 500 A2 ![]() 500 AHR ![]() I see the load data is provided for my 600gr Woodleigh PSP in that pic. Use it at your own risk. It is 2480 fps in my rifle and I consider it MAX (although I have gone higher). Was out verifying zero this afternoon and got some better pics. The wood is far from exhibition, but it WILL hold up day in / day out to 500 recoil! To me that is what matters in a field rifle. These are FIELD RIFLES!

Rockdoc, its a 416 Rigby on an Eddystone action. Its been at the smiths a loooong bloody time (to long). All the metal work is completed, just have the wood work to finish. It won't be set up for a scope, just open sights. Along the lines of an express type rifle. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. On a flintlock it would be called a patch box. I have been thinking about installing a patch box in the butt of an MPI fiberglass stock. This would be for storage of peep sites and such, that are too big to fit in a grip trap. Figured I ought to test it on the only MPI I own before moving on to other stocks. Could be a smashing idea! ![]()

It's is a spare magazine.
|
one of us![]() |
No, RIP, I'm afraid you are mistaken. As Paolo9,5x73 correctly states, it's a spare magazine. The Steyr Model S came with an optional spare magazine in the stock. I put solids in mine. The magazine in the action was loaded with 2 Woodleigh Weldcore softs followed by 3 solids. I figured if that didn't do the trick I'd be needing solids to stop a charge. I also carried 2 more extra magazines in my hunting vest. My son shot his Cape buffalo with the Steyr. One soft in the heart/lungs dropped the buff--he then used 2 solids as insurance--see below. Craig Boddington admired the Steyr in his book "Safari Rifles" but couldn't understand what a magazine rifle was doing in Africa. His observation notwithstanding, the Steyr is a great rifle. ![]() LTC, USA, RET Benefactor Life Member, NRA Member, SCI & DSC Proud son of Texas A&M, Class of 1969 "A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?" This is my 458 Lott, put together by Roger Ferrell & stocked (and other little do-dads) by Wayne @ AHR. I've never shot another Lott for comparison, but the recoil on this one isnt too bad at all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rod -------------------------------- "A hunter should not choose the cal, cartridge, and bullet that will kill an animal when everything is right; rather, he should choose ones that will kill the most efficiently when everything goes wrong" Bob Hagel
