I’ve often thought it would be interesting to put faces to the names here with a meet-up somewhere, although obviously it’s not practical. I’m sure there would be less acrimony meeting others in person.

To make it more interesting I would propose that no one divulge their name/on line tag. After a couple of hours we would then see who could put the right on-line tag to each person.

Shanks and I would need to learn to speak with an American accent though. Scot would need to kick the snow off of his boots beforehand and the Texas gents might need to leave their hats at home.

I have met many members from here.

Some of them I have diametrically opposite political views!

Despite all this, we met as friends, and left as friends.

In fact, I don’t HAVE any political views!

I just dislike all politics.

I’m sure a fair number of crater members in the US will have met others, I just thought it would be interesting to try to match up the on line persona to the real life face.

LDO I’m pulling your wire about the hats. I’m sure some would look for the palest guy in the room and think that must be a Brit.

Hey nute, I've been to the uk many times, boots and hat every time. Now, its my soft felt traveling and weather hat, but a cowboy hat all the same. Keeps my head warm on airplanes too

We used to do big bores shoots, and other gatherings. Plenty of fun, more work than one might expect, met many an AR brother

It'd be great to meet many of the participants here, truthfully I think I'd strongly resist even mentioning politics.

We have much to discuss and visit other than Trump etc,.... Working, parenting, being a good neighbor, hunting, shooting, reloading, fishing,......

In a friendly meeting the last thing I'd want to do is disagree. My opinions on politics just don't matter and I have no interest in standing in front of someone and the two of us trying to shove it down each other's throats.

I think I've met one, in Wyoming one year.
I've been marooned here the last year or two.

We met for several (6?) years in Dallas at DSC. I think 65 or 70 folks for supper and cocktails was the most attended. This was well before the Political Forum got so personal. DSC even subsidized some, too.

I think the bill was $3200 that night. Everyone paid a prorated share and as the organizer, I never got stiffed a cent.

Most of the emphasis back then was African hunting, not politics.

When you say same shit with guys over a beer, nobody gets offended
On Internet and everyone is offended just because there is no face so it’s easy peasy
And yes, face to face, guys will talk about hunting, countries and families
Hey Nute, I’ll be in southern England next summer roe deer hunting, don’t know exactly where as it wasn’t my plan, just going along and hunt

I've visited and hunted with a couple in the US.

I still correspond with one.

I have also kept in touch with one member whom I am visiting in Australia next week.

Unfortunately a good ARPF friend for many years passed away a few years ago. He got ripped off by another guy who offered to help sell his guns. A real sad story. I still think of Floyd (Stanford educated) when i see some ridiculous post here.

Well, I’ve met a couple…

I don’t think I’d have an issue with meeting any of the membership here, but some I’d prefer to avoid talking politics with.

I remember the era of the DSC get togethers… but I was going to SCI at the time.

Unfortunately those aren’t still a thing.

Rusty and Cal…both great guys. Rusty and I had traded, loaned, and borrowed things from each other for years. A few months before he passed…reloading paraphernalia kept just showing up in the mail with a note from Rusty that said “I thought you might have a use for this.” He was a super human being.

Forums are cool, And most guys on them share more in common than not. Im pretty open and always happy to host people from the various forums I use. Most are cool, the odd one turns out to be way more suspect than I imagined.
Only once did I really worry. I took a guy who got into a lot of online fights for a week of hunting Tahr. The subject of his fights came up and I diplomatically said he caused it himself.
After the trip he wrote me an email that was so foul and offensive that I seriously wondered if I needed to take precautions.

I deleted the email. but years later I wish I had of printed it and framed it as looking back I see it as more humorous now.
