When asked as a father or man or citizen if we should change our habit, routine, custom, law, etc,......the fist answer should always be "no". If later it can be demonstrated that the new friend or restaurant, duck pond, gun, car, school or law is some kind of positive or good, then maybe the answer should be changed to "yes". So, Hey! Do you wanna start a new war?!?!?!?! No. Wanna just let illegal immigrants into the country? No. Wanna try a new narcotic? No. Wanna pass a new law, change the makeup of the SCOTUS, change the Constitution, change term limits or who is eligible for elected office? I've tried to learn as I go and I seem to have mostly gotten pretty good at saying no and using it as an operating mode. Id hope that the rest of my fellow citizens might follow along in one way shape or form. "No" is independent, a sole proprietorship , unilateral. One of the biggest hurdles for "no" is the juvenile refrain so often heard here, "but mommy, mommy, they dit it too!". It's said here weekly if not daily. "no" is a personal standard. Do you perceive Russia or Ukraine to be the bigger threat to the US historically and prospectively? Do you seriously desire to see a peaceful resolution in the region that not only addresses the Ukraine situation but the broader Eastern European situation? If you believe Russia is the greater historical and prospective threat and you want a lasting regional peace, then why would go into discussions of a long-term solution by belittling and disempowering the non-aggressor country that had been your ally in the fight as well as your historic European allies? History is an excellent teacher, as those failing to observe it are condemned to repeat its errors. A recent example was Benghazi, where a US Ambassador was lost along with two US Navy former SEALS providing CIA safe house security.(An available reaction force in USAF fighters and the 10th Special Forces Gp ready reaction force ordered to stand down.) Then there is the loss of US Marines in Afghanistan in an action reminiscent of Vietnam in 1975. As a former member of the 10th Special Forces Group, this would not have happened had I been the officer commanding. So-the Ammbassador and the SEALS would have been rescued, and I would have been relieved of command. A small price to pay for doing the correct task at the time. H. Clinton and Obama are excellent examples of progressive leadership sans transparency, patriotism, honesty, and protection of our interests in foreign countries. One little problem... Regan was against the Soviets, not Russia. Putin was a hard core soviet communist. I doubt he's changed his beliefs much at all. Regan would have been all in on Ukrainian independence because it would reduce Soviet hegemony. Regan was anticommunist more than anti Russia... because Russia didn't exist at the time.
