One thing about these days…it is obvious to see who actually is a small government conservative and who is a big government liberal.

Imagine people calling themselves fiscally conservative and then railing against the cutting of frivolous spending. lol

Frivolous?? Like firefighters? Scientists working on bird flu? Essential personal at the FAA? Cutting the already understaffed and underfunded USFS? The people that actually keep our country moving forward and functioning?

A personal observation on government efficiency. Approval times for import permits have gone from hours or days to weeks or over a month. From my point of view, that is not increased efficiency.

Frivolous?? Like firefighters?

Firefighter’s are being cut by Fed gvt?

Scientists working on bird flu?

The science on avian influenza has been worked out for decades.

Essential personal at the FAA?

None cut.

Cutting the already understaffed and underfunded USFS?

The USFS needs to get back to being foresters. Have to cut non-foresters first to repopulate.

The people that actually keep our country moving forward and functioning?

Nah mostly just the people that help keep our country in debt.

A personal observation on government efficiency. Approval times for import permits have gone from hours or days to weeks or over a month. From my point of view, that is not increased efficiency.

And export permits have been nonexistent since advent of the Biden administration.

Yep, it wasn't drought or climate change that caused the fires, it was the firefighters, just like doctors caused COVID and veterinarians are causing bird flu, raising the price of eggs...

And Elon Musk, forestry expert, is gonna fix it.

Geez man, just spray some Ivermectin on the trees, what’s so hard about that?

Count your blessings, between Agent Krasnov isolating the nation, the South African running your economy and Bobby Brainworm looking after your healthcare you’ll soon have no problems of any kind.

Well, nothing of any kind really, but no problems either.

There were reasons for those jobs. Most likely the jobs could be done more efficiently by fewer people. It's the nature of government to be inefficient if need be, to show that it's doing something about a problem.

To execute those functions more efficiently is a task that takes work. Time-consuming work. Trump is not budgeting time to actually do the work. He's getting it done inefficiently to show that he's doing something, just like paragraph above.

It's the nature of politics and government...

I don't know of anyone, especially herein, who is railing against cutting frivolous spending. And, I don't know of any big government liberals.

I do know some so-deemed liberals and conservatives who advocate a functional government.

All the so deemed and self-deemed real small government conservatives I know of a full of shit. What they are really advocating is dysfunctional government. The evidence for that is aplenty, but the existence of Trump/Musk in the middle and top of it is proof enough.

It's the definitions and application of the terms "small government", "big government", "fiscally conservative", "frivolous spending" which are skewed. Apparently "functional" isn't relevant. The far-right advocates are righteously certain their view is the only reasonable and sensible way. It's only common sense they say.

Someone herein asked what happened to common sense. The answer clearly is that the far-right stuck their foot in the door of governance.

That’s exactly right. I have been through my fair share of RIFs and efficiency exercises. It is time consuming and hard work involving tough decisions. It means redesigning processes. It is not done with a fire axe unless you want to experience problems and ensuing chaos. Increasingly I think the answer to most of what Trump and his team are doing is, elect a clown, expect a circus.

Very disingenuous.

Firefighting had evolved leaps and bounds , I am very impressed with the modern equipment and tactics used today.

On the other hand, fire prevention has been abysmal and it seems to me the planners and administrators have been half GOP since Y2K.

Cutting firefighters doesn't decrease fuel load, maybe you could speak with the Trump boys about that.

Nobody else did anything for decades so when someone is actually trying it’s wrong?
Anyone of you balance your home budget?

And when it comes to western fires, West will burn no matter how much money we throw at it
Mother Nature at its best
Best protection from fires is not build in fire prone wooded areas and built up residential areas need to keep their neighborhoods clean of flammable debris to start with
Pretty simple and that costs a lot less then having fire and having multiple firefighters just watching/monitoring it
People in the west have seen it over and over and over again
Millions spent and then rain or snow will put it out
Firefighting became another government industry

DOGE has demonstrated exactly zero fraud, none, so far. What they, and you, are calling "waste" is just spending they, and you, disagree with, but the Constitution vests the power to spend with Congress, and Congressional spending bills have always been negotiated to include a mix of priorities to garner enough votes for passage.

DOGE's chainsaw approach upends that process by retroactively eliminating half of what was agreed to by Congress without a single legal justification to do so.

We have National Weather Service offices in Nebraska and Oklahoma suspending the launches of weather balloons because their staff was cut, but that area doesn't experience severe weather so that's fine...

And all this time I thought you were interested in big picture stuff. Roll Eyes

BTW, IMO there are "normal" conservatives/republicans then there are radicalized republicans. I thought that many "normal" republican conservatives were posting herein, which the radical republicans were calling libs. Offend them if you want, I find it amusing at least.

And I don't know of anyone who isn't opposed to wasteful govt spending. I do know of people who oppose exec power grabs thwarting the authority of congress. And what is "waste" to radicals is often well spent to others.

As long as I have been paying attention to politics I have thought that the "idea" of small govt was a corrupt idea. And the workings of DOGE have affirmed that thought. The real goal of small govt advocates is to make govt dysfunctional, then they will say see - I told you so. Basically, it's both cause and effect waste inherently. Examples are Obamacare and now Social Security. It's a clear republican formula to chip away at something to make it dysfunctional, when they can't destroy it outright.

Regarding fraud - forcing their way into data bases, and gaining access in general, where they don't belong or lack clearance is fraud in my book. Arbitrary cuts and disruption just for the sake of cutting costs is fraud IMO. Then in many cases reversal indicate not being careful and lacking knowledge of what they are doing indicates incompetence and intentional lack of care, at least, if not fraud. It's corrupt for sure.

Where does lies, support of lies, farce justifications, intersect with fraud?

We have National Weather Service offices in Nebraska and Oklahoma suspending the launches of weather balloons because their staff was cut, but that area doesn't experience severe weather so that's fine...

Hear hear to DOGE. I have noticed zero ill-effects to day-to-day life. Have you? Big Grin

Well, you didn't get fired did you?

What a surprise that it always turns out to be all about you. 2020

The libtards are showing their true colors of keying Teslas and generally being domestic terrorists — revealing themselves as the enemy of the US they really are and the ARPF liberals just continue to whine about Trump.

Conservatives are supposed to hate wasteful spending. Elon is rooting it out. No words of praise for that here…as few conservatives reside here.

Life is good. We have a true USA loving POTUS and who would have thought Elon would have turned out to be the true national treasure he is! God bless Donald Trump and God bless Elon Musk!!!

The best part is watching the hypocrisy like Mark Kelly selling the best electric car ever made and buying a true gas-drinking Taboe. Hey I like Tahoes and own a couple but they damn sure ain’t known for fuel economy. lol

DOGE has demonstrated exactly zero fraud, none, so far. While I might consider running for a state office and if I did…I would take no pay to do it…but besides that…you couldn’t put a .45 in my ear and make me “work” for the government.

Another point.

If you find yourself in opposition to the deportation of those gang thugs to El Salvador…you are likely NOT a conservative.

You're working for Trump's govt now. The payoff, at least, is ideological satisfaction.

Get with it Lane, there's lots of money for loyalist millionaires in the Trump admin.

You are intentionally missing the point and trying to gaslight, and trying to confuse others.

It's not the deportation itself. It's the flaunting disregard for due process, and the stupid justifications of that in particular.

Nobody is in opposition to that. It's against the law to deport them without due process. If you're in opposition to that, all your quacking about the Constitution is meaningless.
