I just saw General Boddington's David Miller 7 mag for sale on gunsamerica for $8000. Do you think he is selling it because of the Miller/B&C controversy?

Nah, it's because it lacks 'frontal area', that's all...

If I had a 7mm Mag with a bunch of wear & a bunch of rounds down the tube, and thought I had enough name recognition to get $8000 for it (and then probably get another new one for free, just for the "free advertising" of whoever supplies it), I'd be selling mine too!
He'll find some fool with too much money that will buy it too....
Got to agree with you guys! That "JarHead" [said with affection] sure does have his "Groupies" doesn't he? It should be telling story to see what he has built to replace it. [If you catch my drift]

Boddington has written that this David Miller rifle is the finest bolt action rifle he has ever owned but he wishes it was not a 7 Mag. He has stated the 7 Mag is not one of his favorites. In fact he likes a 30-06 better than the 7 Mag.

Maybe he's just sick of the rifle and wants to be rid of it. We've all been there!
I owned a pair of Miller Marksman custom rifles. These were wonderful, high-performance rifles and beautifully-made, but I sold them because I didn't like the uncheckered, oil-finished, laminated stocks. These went down the road before the B&C fiasco came about, which I guess is lucky for me..........
I think 'who knows and who cares' is accurate. I have a hard time understanding why selling a rifle is such a big deal, but: (1) I bought the rifle, and paid very close to what I'm asking for it--16 years ago. Asking price doesn't cover inflation or 5% interest. (2) It's a very nice rifle, lovely wood, Miller's unbeatable metal work, best of all it shoots straight. Selling it because: I haven't used it in a long time, decided it was too nice for the beating I give rifles . . . and I have a daughter starting college, have a better use for the $$$$ right now. I've actually been trying to sell if for nearly two years, but only the fellow left-handers viewing this will have any idea how difficult it is to sell left-handed rifles!!!!!!! Regards to all, Craig

I called your house several months ago and left a message on the machine. I wanted to pick your brain about a hunt in the RSA I just did a few weeks ago. Then I spoke with someone that told me you were off playing soldier in the Middle East.
Just about to wrap up the layout on a Coues deer hunting book done with Duwane A. as a co-author. Going to the printers next week.
By the way, congrats on the new rank. Looks good on you.

General, Welcome aboard or back, whatever the case might be. Your comments are well taken, even though I and others may or may not concur. Your input on any and all subjects will be welcome here, I'm sure. Semper Fidelis. Craig Cowan USMC 68-71 (RVN 69-70)

I wonder why some people smells some conspiracy everywhere they turn
Craig Welcome to the forum. I should mention that while I don't read 'Hunting' magazine that much, I thought that the story of the desert sheep was first rate work. Probably one of the best stories you've written, IMHO.

Amen to the lefthanded selling problem (try it in Canada). I'm trying to sell a couple right now without much success. This does strike me as a little strange as I search high and low for them so you think someone would be snatching them right up.
Craig, do you want to trade . You won't feel bad beating the sap out of these two guns . However, I doubt your daughter would get far in college with these two rifles as collateral no matter how nice I think they are .

I assume you meant the "Gunwriter" message for me.
It will be 4-5 weeks before the printing and binding of the book is finished. You can order a a copy for $20, plus $3 S&H from Duwane Adams at:
ARIZONA BIG GAME HUNTS 204 Avenue “B” San Manuel, Arizona 85631
The book is 224 pages and contains many, many photos and lots of hunting Tales. Cover (Sergio Orozco's world-record P&Y buck) below:
Tony--Good to hear from you, been a long time. Congrats on the books, glad to see someone do one--and I'm really glad to see Duwane Adams on it with you. He's a great guy, great hunter, and I learned an awful lot from him. (And still have a lot to learn if I could just draw those darned Arizona tags). All best, Craig

Geez, I live here and wish I could draw tags, too. Got shut out on everything this year.I have more bonus points for sheep than there are sheep in AZ. I might have to join Duwane for another hunt in Mexico.
I talk to DA almost daily, so I'll tell him you're back and well -- right??
By the way, there's a photo or two of you in the book. In your younger days of course. -TONY
Can we just let Craig sell his rifle. A lot of folks on here have said quite a bit and I am sure some regret it now that Craig has joined the forum. You folks do not even the man and can find it in yourself to throw stones, we must have a lot of perfect folks on here. I am proud to know Craig as a friend and any one of you on this board would have more than a good time in a hunting camp with him, though I can't say the same for him after some things I have read on this post and others. If I had the money I would buy Craig's rifle for my son as it would be something that would mean a lot to myself and my son as Craig is someone that I have been reading for many, many years and he is a big reason I have such a yearning to hunt Africa and many other places in the world. He has kept my adventurous mind occupied since childhood and I look forward to many more years of his adventures.

Too bad you have such an axe to grind. Wonder which parade of yours I rained on? Personally, I much prefer plain old Craig, but whatever you choose to call me, it isn't fair to a whole lot of great Americans to call me "Sgt." They're the guys who run the Corps and the Army, take the big risks and win the wars--and that's not a rank I ever held. As for free rifles, I wish there were a lot of them. There have been a couple, damn few over the years. Those are the ones I figure I'm stuck with, whether I like 'em or not. Rifles like the Miller rifle, that I paid a whole lot of cold, hard cash for when I really couldn't afford to, those I figure I can at least try to sell whenever I choose. Whomever buys that one will have a very fine rifle, hasn't shifted zero (or changed group size) in 16 years. But I'm not about to give it away, and maybe there's nobody out there who thinks it's worth what I paid for it. Me, I thought it was bargain then and I think it's a better bargain now. Shoot straight, Craig

Mark--Yes, on the west slopes of Pico Johnson, actually one of the little ranges of ridges to the southwest. Beautiful country! I had serious "buyer's remorse" just before the hunt--what a stupid thing to do! Took me most of a year's combat pay. But the remorse went away when I saw that ram, and has never come back!!!!! All best, Craig

Gen. Boddington (sorry but my idea of addressing an officer by his first name is "General")-
Thanks for all of your work over the years. To hunters of my generation who are too young to have read Keith, O'Connor, and the like when they were alive you are one of the "greats" of your profession. I am leaving on my first safari to RSA later this month and just finished "The African Experience" last night. There was some really good information in that book and I feel better informed having read it. I don't have any specific questions for you but wanted to express my appreciation for your writing, and your service to our country. I saw you at the Kimber booth at the NRA meetings in Orlando but didn't want to bother you. Keep up the good work. -Keith

Craig B-thanks for the response--2 winters ago I worked with Kirk down south. One of the best expereinces of my life! One of the hunts I guided on was at Pico--what a great place-what a great hunt-it was a true gift!
The fella who took the sheep us was on his last hunt (had cancer) he filled his slam there-man it was something else.
Thanks for your time and make it your best day

Man, what a bunch of star f*ckers we have here! An individual of some celebrity shows up and people suddenly start falling all over themselves as the drool starts flowing. Looks like a pack of Pavlov's dogs found their way to this thread yesterday. Get off his d*ck, and let the man sell his rifle.
I'm sure glad I turned my computer off last night, otherwise the sound of all this name-dropping would have kept me awake all night.
No offense intended, but another vote for "Who knows? Who cares?".

I for one am also glad you turned off your computer last night. There is nothing wrong with showing a little respect to a man that has hunted more and been on more safari's than most of us ever will in our lifetimes. I for one am very envious of all the hunting he has done!

Myself, I would not give $8000.00 for a rifle if it was God's personal and favorite rifle. But of course someone will buy it that has more money than since.
