Dr. David Meyers shot an AZ antelope that may eclipse his current world record that is tied at 95 B&C. Word is he purchased both governor tags this year and is going to wait until next year to fill his second tag.

The unofficial score is being kept a secret until after the 60 day drying period.

He's all ready bagged a monster mule deer on the strip this year with a governor tag and supposedly has a governor tag for elk as well.

Simply unbelievable!!!

I never would have even tried to venture a guess that an antelope could achieve triple digit scores. That one could very well score over 100 inches! Hugely long horns, tremendously heavy with gigantic cutters. What a brute!

Absolutely outstanding!

That muley is the kind you could accidently put an elk tag on!

Simply fabulous specimens.

Would this be the first time a hunter has broken their own world record? Or in Dr. Meyers' case, broken his tie for world record with a different specimen?

I know. I never drew a tag though. I kept putting in for unit 10.

I loved hunting in AZ. Took a few deer with the bow.

Biggest elk I've seen were in AZ. Utah is as good or close second.

Not far from there, but across the line in New Mexico I witnessed a world record antelope that had been shot that day..As I recall it was 26 inches plus a tad. This one looks about the same size to me, but its hard to tell from a picture. At any rate I shot a 18 inch plus antelope many years ago and he wasn't even close to this big boy.

Buy a new tape measure. Roll Eyes

There has NEVER been a verified "world record" pronghorn that came even close to 26 inches, and that's especially so for NM.

The two current B&C #1 bucks (see list below) are Meyers at Right 17 2/8, Left 17 2/8 and Woods at Right 19 3/8, Left 18 5/8. The horns on O'Haco's #2 buck taped 17 4/8†and 17 6/8â€.

Corky Richardson killed this outstanding buck during the 1999 archery season in Arizona's Unit 19A. It is ONLY the 2nd buck ever entered in any record buck that had BOTH over 20 inches long (20 6/8"). It scored 90 2/8 inches, placing it third in the Pope & Young record book and No.1 in the SCI archery book.

Only one other buck, with 20 1/8" and 20" horns, has topped the elusive 20" mark in any of the record books. Supposedly killed in 1899 and now part of the National Collection, it currently is tied as No. 7 in the world.

And Marvin Zieser's #1 P&Y buck measured Right 17.2 and Left 17.4. Both horns on Shelton's #2 measured 17.0.

And I'm guessing, given that faulty tape measure, it was not close to 18 inches either, Roll Eyes

But hey, at least you didn't claim it came from TX as a result of Conservation Corp transplants. Wink -TONY

Just a little sidenote, the fellow sitting on the right is a good friend of mine that I used to rope with, Chad Smith of Vaquero outfitters.
I saw the pic's of this antelope a few days after it was taken and I have been waiting for it to be oficially scored.
Chad runs Vaquero Outfitters out of Chino valley Az, is a great guy and he and his wife Shawn and their team of guides bust their butts for their clients.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it! Big Grin

Sorry, don't mean to be rude. I can't afford them either.

I believe a governors tag allows the hunter to hunt anywhere in the State. There may be some exceptions. Not sure if there exceptions for each state, or what the situation is.

That sort of looks like Charles Grimmet in that picture with the B&C Goat. Hard to tell with the glasses and shadow on his face. It would not be a surprise if it was. He is responsible for guiding a lot of guys to B&C book Goats.

If anyone wants a B&C Pronghorn, he is the man to go to.

And the other guy is Tony Grimmett of Pronghorn Guide Service, who often locates monster 'lopes.

AZ has two types of special permits for several big-game species. They have the auction types that go to the highest bidder, and they have raffle types that any ol' dude can purchase a ticket(s) for. In general, the auction/raffle are conducted by the various conservation groups in the state. Both types allow a special year-round season for most of the state.

I just finished an article on the two elk raffle permits from the 2007 & 2008 seasons. They were killed within weeks of each other at the end of one season in July 2008 for the 2007 permit holder and beginning the next season in Aug. for the 2008 holder. Both scored over 400, with Mullins Outfitters involved with each kill in Unit 9.

The raffle tickets were $25 each. One guy spent $50 and the other spent $100. -TONY

That speed goat's so big its almost scary. If I saw one I doubt I could hold still enough to hit it at short range. Simply amazing.

Maybe Ray's 26" inches was 13" per side.

My brother shot a "16.5 incher" last year, and sent me the picture. I told him it was 14 maximum. "Nope, the guy told me it was 16.5 inches". I helped him measure it when it came back from the taxidermy; 14.25 inches without much mass and short prongs.

Wow, this is a lot of quotes.

You are right, Tony's brother is John, I think Tony's real name is Charles. So maybe I was right after all!

In any case, that is Tony. He guided Dr. Meyer in 2002 when he took the AZ Buck that qualified for world record. No surprise he is sitting in the photo this year. Tony knows Antelope.

They are a bunch of nice deer/Elk/Lopes, but I'm not much for shooting big heads while still in velvet, especially if you have a year round go anywhere permit.

Itherway it's horses for courses, and they are stunning animals regardles of my personal preferences.
